Total BS. I hate the targeting rule with a passion. At least the Vols handily whooped that ass.
Also, Duke was robbed. Miami player's knee was definitely down before one of those laterals, not to mention the multiple missed blocks in the back.
I am just pissed because that means he is also out for the first half of the South Carolina game, right?
Also, you're an asshole. I watched the video again, and whereas I would need to see the knee from different angles, there are multiple readily evident blocks in the back. Thanks for ruining it, ruiner!

Nobody is talking about the fact that Sirk might not have gotten in on his TD sneak. Watching live I didn't think he scored but I switched to Michigan and missed the replay and can't find it anywhere to watch again.
If he didn't really score though, the last play would be the ultimate "ball don't lie" moment.

All the blocks were from the side, and at visible angles to the defender.

Also, yes Dave Maynar that means Moseley is suspended for the first half against Carolina. Not that it should really matter very much, yet I just hate that rule in principle. Most of the time guys get thrown out of the game for just making a football play. Very rarely are guys actually trying to maliciously take people's heads off anymore.

They suspending everybody in the ACC.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the suspension of the on-field officiating crew as well as the replay official and communicator following the Miami at Duke game on Saturday, October 31.
The announcement follows the league’s weekly review of game footage, as well as reports and interviews with officials and administrators.
The series of errors during the final play of the game will result in the suspension of the entire crew for two ACC games.
The errors that occurred during the last play of the game are:
·The replay official erred in not overturning the ruling on the field that the Miami player had released the ball prior to his knee being down. If called, this would have ended the game. ·The on-field officials erred by failing to penalize Miami for an illegal block in the back at the Miami 16-yard line. If called, the ball would have been placed at the Miami 8-yard line and the game would have been extended for an untimed down. ·A block in the back foul was called at the Duke 26-yard line. After the officials conferred, which is appropriate, they correctly determined that the block was from the side, which resulted in the flag being picked up. The replay official was not involved in the decision to pick up the flag; however, the referee did not effectively manage communication and properly explain why the flag was picked up. ·In addition, the on-field crew failed to penalize a Miami player for leaving the bench area and entering the field prior to the end of the play. This foul would not have negated the touchdown because it would have been enforced as a dead ball foul.

Frank Beamer is reportedly retiring at the end of the season, so add another job to the list, potentpotables.
Mauk got welcomed back from his suspension four days ago. Today, he got suspended for the rest of the season for the old standby unspecified violation of team rules.
Nobody associated with the ACC cares that Duke got screwed by the refs, except the league office. Duke has benefited from bad calls for years. Generations. Screw 'em.
The league office will once again give them a schedule with no FSU and no Clemson.

Spoken like a true Wake fan.
P.S. They play Clemson in 2017.
I'm a fan of all that is right in the world. If that happened 1,000 more times, the refereeing advantages would almost even out. Almost. I'd be willing to call it even.

And Norm Chow was fired, effective immediately. I should have a Ph.D. in the college football coaching carousel, by the way, it's kinda my thing.
I think the only thing you can say about the Coastal is there is no "definitely" anything. I think we have a good shot to beat Duke.
I got home from the Pitt game 4 hours ago (I drive 3 hours each way for every game). Headin into work now!
It was the first time I've seen Pitt this year and I really only watched the first half. I wasn't very impressed. UNC looks a lot better than I thought they were. They look like they should win that division. Duke is pretty good but I haven't really seen them play much.

We are also arguably the best team they have played (Sagarin has Ga Tech at 38 and us at 39). And we thoroughly outplayed them in the second half.
Also, found this interesting - Sagarin's rankings of conference divisions:
1. SEC West (not surprising) 2. Big XII 3. PAC XII South 4. PAC XII North 5. ACC Coastal 6. Big Ten East 7. SEC East 8. ACC Atlantic 9. Independents (WTF) 10. Big Ten West

Here is my first attempt at ranking the 10 FBS jobs available right now. I tried to indicate how much better one job is than another, so the top job will be ranked 100, and then everything below according to how much worse it is than the top job.
100. Southern Cal (the real USC) - this one is obvious 70. Miami - they have no money, and their stadium situation is one of the worst in FBS, but location location location! Lots of recruits. Good conference situation 68. Virginia Tech - VA is underrated in producing players. Second best gameday atmosphere in the conference? Decent amount of money. 67. South Carolina - money is fine, South Carolina produces players, no better than 4th best job in the division, SEC though 62. Maryland - that Under Armour money. DMV area good for recruiting. 5th best job in its division at best. 58. UCF - Better facilities than some P5 schools; Florida obv. 55. Illinois - I guess proximity to Chicago should help somewhat with recruiting those kids? Division is a crapshoot. 52. Minnesota - Division is a crapshoot. Facilities aren't great except new stadium. 20. Hawaii - tough to recruit, facilities are bad, but it is Hawaii 1. Rutgers - the butthole of the country. No money, facilities ok, worst job in its division, administration is a nightmare.

Thoughts?
Gameday atmosphere goes in cycles.
The two names being brought up the most for the VT job are Rich Rod and Tom Herman. Rodriguez used to recruit the area, and he used to work with VT current AD. Herman was born in Cincinnati/has family in Cincinnati and was working under Meyer at OSU while our AD was working at UC. If I had to pick between the two I would take Herman.

I also have heard Kirby Smart come up for the VT job. He is one of those names that is just going to come up with a lot of vacancies though since he is a coordinator that people know will go for a head coaching job eventually. He's getting ready to hit 40 next month too so maybe he'll finally be able to shed the "too young" label. On a similar note, if Clemson continues on the path they have set so far this season, I would expect Brent Venables to start coming up often too as many analysts expected Clemson's defense to be significantly worse this year due to players leaving after last season yet here they are near the top of the heap again.

Don't forget North Texas! They're a very important program!
