Avett's, MMJ, Alabama Shakes, and anybody else play 5000+ size venues have too big for this venue/fest now. sch'mon Besides who wants another fest that's getting the same shit as all the others? And I'm hoping this is more comparable to Big Ears, Hopscotch, etc in terms of getting different stuff.
Here's my guess at our potential headliner pool: Tame Impala, The Flaming Lips, Pixies, Wilco, Of Monsters and Men, The Avett Brothers, Noel Gallagher, Modest Mouse

Tame hs no tour dates between June 6th and August 19th
Flaming Lips are in Walla Walla, Washington on the 15th and Colorado on the 21st. Unlikely.
Wilco is at Pitchfork in Chicago the 17th. Possible if they take off the 18th and come to play the 19th. Not sure if a radius clause with Shaky Knees would effect them.
Of Monsters and Men is in Spain the 11th and then have a gap until Japan on the 26th. Unlikely.
The Avett Brothers are in Houston the 17th and New Orleans the 18th, free the 19th. Definitely possible. bringing Old Crow Medicine Show with them those 2 tour dates.
Noel Gallagher is out. In Europe at that time.
Modest Mouse is at Forecastle the 19th, off the 18th. Definitely possible.
Modest Mouse headlines the 18th, Avetts the 19th. Sounds reasonable if true.
weldbham.com/blog/2015/03/11/rocking-the-furnace-sloss-furnaces-music-festival/ This article states that the festival has capacity for around 20,000 people a day. It also notes that first year expectations are not for that number, but a solid lineup could perhaps hit somewhat close to that figure each of the two days. In addition, the musical lineup is stated as one that will be pretty diverse. So I would say a lineup of decent quality is certainly possible.
Others free that weekend but set to tour this Summer: Gary Clark jr Brandi Carlile Alabama Shakes St Paul and the Broken Bones Trombone Shorty Tedeschi Trucks Band
This is great in the sense that the location of this is 5 mins from my house. Not so great in that sloss furnace is one of the worst venues you can see a show at. Hopefully they add a main stage were the parking lot is now. Otherwise if the headliner stage is were most shows are its going to be a cluster fuck. The way its built is you can only enter from the back which makes leaving for any reason a huge pain in the ass. Its also sunk in and surrounded which means no airflow, which in July means heat and lots of it. I will never complain about a festival coming to bham but I really hope they don't plan on having the headliners were they normally have bands. Either way ill be there.
On another note, Birmingham has grown tremendously in the past few years and I highly recommend anyone come visit. We have amazing breweries, amazing food (both cheap and $$$), and amazing people. Don't let the shit of the past scare you away. Most of the super red's live in the suburbs anyways.
After reading the above I realized I came off more negative than I would have liked. I fully believe AC entertainment and Red Mountain are going to put on a great production and I'm sure someone smarter than me has the stages figured out.

I'm thinking that surely they will not be using that area that you are talking about. I don't think it has the capacity for a crowd at a headliner show. I'm hoping they just set up temporary stages around the grounds.
I hope the lineup is really good - I wouldn't mind having three great festivals in my backyard. Bonnaroo, Shaky Knees, and Sloss. Still haven't made the drive down to Hangout yet.

I would hope not, but that is where they have had all of the shows at Sloss (correct me if I am wrong). I've seen the Shakes and OAR (when they were considered big) there. I would think at least one of the stages would be set up there, hopefully the smallest one.
Only five days until the lineup is announced. I really hope it will be relatively decent, because the location is just way too convenient for me to skip out on.
