Why? Do you think people should vote once and not move?
We are in round 2 of day 1. Yes it's kind of early for this many vote switches from all over IMO. We still don't have lots to go on, which has been stated by people that then switch their votes as if there was something more to go off of.
I am not saying people switching votes is sketchy, although it is eye raising. It's the context of the situation that makes certain things go off for me.
My vote switch to null was largely defensive. My "theory" that I was talking about earlier was a potential potent/tainted connection. After Rummy posted about looking out for players on the sideline trying to sway votes, I decided it was better to voice my thoughts then. However, I then realized that holding my vote on Rummy after airing my suspicion of potent would raise flags - why hold my vote on Rummy (who I don't think I've voiced any true suspicions of) when I'm voicing a suspicion of potent? After all, it's the votes that matter. So I thought of moving to potent. But then I realized that switching to potent outright would raise even bigger flags, since krissy had just also moved off of Rummy and onto potent (and my vote would have pushed potent into the lead). So I voted null, in order to be congruent with my statements about potent without looking like I'm colluding with Krissy (because I'm not). With potent and bogart's votes still pending, I can now (hopefully) make sure that potent gets into the runoff, without forcing someone else to have to vote a certain way for that to happen (which would have been the case if I had pushed potent up to four votes).
Also I'm leaving work now and have a busy night ahead of me so I won't be on much until late tonight. Just wanted to give everyone the heads up in case I appear to go inactive.
Jim - you're probably going to be waiting a while, I'm sure I'm not alone when I say you're leaving us at the edge of our seat.

What I have to say is nothing groundbreaking. The reason I initially cleared potent was because of how similar he was acting to previous games. I saw nothing alarming except his vote changes. The reason I asked Jazmo the question is because he is up in arms about Potent saving you for the runoff, but doesn't ever mention that Potent initially moved off of Jazmo to put you in the runoff instead.
This is why I'm wary of Jim "clearing" potent, as well as Tainted gunning for Krissy for really shaky reasons - especially considering that potent was the one who moved his vote to save Tainted from being in the runoff.
Jaz before I post my thoughts I have a question for you. Why do you think Potent initially saved you from being in the runoff?
Your guess is good as mine on that one. I understand his initial vote on me with his predetermined voting pattern, but his move to Tainted didn't make sense to me, which is why I started badgering him about it. He said that rummaging's stack made him less suspicious of her while Tainted's stack made him more suspicious, which is rather incongruous - which I pointed out then.
My best guess as to an actual motive is that it wasn't about me. If there is a potent/tainted connection, then I'd say he moved onto Tainted so that way he could then save Tainted from the runoff if things got to that point - which is exactly what happened. But again, my suspicion of that connection is just a first-round musing and I'm not sold on it, but it fits. Outside of that, I haven't a clue.

That's because I know I'm town, so it's not a suspicious move to me. And the same question works for you in reverse - why are you not suspicious that potent saved tainted from the runoff, when after he switched to Tainted you immediately replaced his vote for me with yours? You seemed to be suspicious of his movement then - why is that not the case with Tainted?
First off, you people are crazy. 8 pages in the first day has to be some form of a record.
Second, as I have it figured krissy and potent have 3 votes and jaz and rummy have 1, with me, potent, and jaz to vote. I am going to vote for jaz because I am really curious as to where potent will vote (this will force jaz back into voting for rummy, which will put rummy/jaz at two each). I am doing this because I find potent the most interesting person right now due to his erratic voting, and krissy the 2nd most due to her being ok with the run off (most people don't want to go to the run off unless they know they will be ok). I also don't think either of these two are inspector (I have never seen an inspector put themselves in these situations), so even if they are not mafia we will not lose our biggest asset in the first day.
The first day is always the toughest and usually a townie gets lynched, it sucks but that's just how it is when 3 people are working together against 7 clueless people, and one person who knows something. As far as quite vs loud I see it both ways. Sure its easy to say "hey they are quite and must be mafia", BUT I find it just as easy to think that someone who is posting erratically could be doing so to confuse the townies. I think our best move is to get the run off to three as to have another look at voting patterns (as opposed to two).

Well, I got off the golf course (shot an 84 first time out if anyone cares), had a few post-round beers, got dinner, arrived at the homestead and read through this thread...

At this point, I don't legitimately think that Krissy, Rummy, or Jaz are mafia - I don't know that they aren't, but I'm leaning toward none of them are. This means the town is going to whack one of their own. If that has to be me, then that sucks but it has to be someone.
I just would like everyone to look at the two people who originally put me in the runoff, JFG and Jimmyroo. They never stated a reason for voting for me. Should we get a reason from someone as to why they voted for me?
Well, apparently I'm going to be in the runoff. If that's the case, I'd rather be in with someone other than Jazmo so I'm changing my vote.
There were two people that stacked right off the bat (before JFG and Jimmy stacked on me). I think Rummaging stacking on Jaz makes sense - it's her first game, he voted for her, and if she were mafia there probably would have been discussions about stacking and it wouldn't have happened that early. I think Rummaging is a townie based on that.
Tainted Oppossum stacked on Krissy for no reason. He said his vote could move, so if he does I will take that into consideration. Until then...
potent >>> jazmo >>> tainted oppossum
Strange, it doesn't seem that you had much concern about my vote when I made it. Are you sure this isn't a brand new concern now that you are in the runoff and need to deflect suspicions? Good luck with that.
Post by potentpotables on Apr 1, 2015 20:53:43 GMT -5
You still haven't given a reason. You can think I'm deflecting all you want, I'm sure others will agree with you, but if you are town it would really help us to know why you stacked without a reason.
I needed to cast my vote. I support having runoffs. I took a peek at the tally and saw who had 1 vote and could be put into a runoff. And at that point I chose you rather arbitrarily among the people who already had 1 vote.

I'm pretty convinced that I'm going to be lynched on this day. It's kind of depressing because I'm a townie, and I like playing this game, but like I've said repeatedly in this game someone has to die.
All I would like is for townies, after my death, to consider the possibility that I *might* be a townie. That will help you solve the problem. I think a lot of you have been myopic so far.

bogart > possum > jazmo
Responding to the bolded statement above.
I used to get up in arms when I was put in a runoff early in a game of mafia. I have learned, however, that every death is information for the town and for the inspector. I don't like the wording that has been used by both you and Jim. Jim stated I "offered" myself up. You're saying I "want" to go to a runoff. Neither of those statements are true. I simply accept the fact that there has to be someone in the runoff on Day 1 and that someone has to die. Do I want it to be me? Of course not. But do I understand that's the way the game is played and that's how information is gathered? Absolutely.
Okay, so we're now at a 5 person run-off between Potentpotables, Tainted Opossum, Krissyjo, Jazmo, and Rummagingforanswers7
I think that's overkill, so would like to see it whittled down to 4 or 3. Due to the conversations, I'd like to see Jazmo, Potent, and Taint in it. The fourth could be a toss up between me or rummaging. Obviously, for self-preservation sake, I'd rather not be in it, but for the town's sake, it doesn't bother me to be there.
Jim - I don't recall offering myself to be in the runoff. I was already basically part of it. Plus, people have to be in the runoff day 1 - do I want it to be me? Of course not. Is whining about it going to do any good? Nope. So if I'm in the day 1 runoff - the town has to start somewhere. I don't think it's that big of a deal. Runoffs give the town information. They're a good thing.
I also find it interesting that you and Jim seem to be using the same arguments against me. In a previous game (76?), Jim and I were mafia together. I'm familiar with his style when he's mafia and how he interacts with his fellow mafia. The fact that both of you are sticking with the same flimsy reason makes me take note for future rounds (if I survive this one).
One last point: Why is it suspicious for me to say I'm okay with being in a runoff (note: I'm OKAY with it. I am not offering myself up, nor do I want to be there, but I am okay with it), yet Potent gets a free pass?
Nothing really to add. Potent is erratic with his voting. Seems like he's trying to stir things up because he's afraid of the current runoff going forward. That makes me comfortable with status quo for now.
Look, you can make yourself believe what you want to believe, and so I realize there is nothing I will do or say that will convince you otherwise. But rest assured, I am not afraid of the runoff. If I am voted off, so be it, I'll be upset for a day because I like playing mafia and I am a member of the town, but my life will go on most likely. The truth is that all 7 of the normal townies have no idea what to do today and they grasp at every little straw to try to make some narrative. I know this, I've been part of it and I'm doing it in this game. The reality to me is that it is really hard to know what you're doing without a mafia whack. If I have to die for the town to win, so be it, I hope I can play a part in it right now.
Hmm... Interesting how Bogart says "most people don't want to go to the run off unless they know they will be ok" and Potent says "But rest assured, I am not afraid of the runoff." Yet I'm the one being scrutinized.

All this makes a lot of sense. I definitely get the wariness of switching a vote too soon - I was worried about doing that earlier in this round, as well. I for one am not very convinced that any of the mafia members are amongst this group of four that have been under the most scrutiny (me, Krissy, Jaz, Potent), but it is what it is. Of the group being discussed, I know myself to be town, feel fairly sure that Jaz is as well, and think Krissy and Potent are about equally likely to be guilty (though by "equally" I don't mean "very" - I really wouldn't be surprised in the least if no Mafia member is in this run off), so I might as well stick with my vote on Krissy.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
FWIW, I think the town would be better off with a Jazmo/Potent runoff instead of a Krissy/Potent runoff. I can't really explain it right now with voting patterns or anything specifically concrete. It's just a vibe I'm getting and felt strong enough about it that I wanted to share.
If it ends up Krissy/Potent as a runoff I guess that's cool too. She did vote for me in the beginning which naturally would give me some concern, but like I said before, most initial votes are random so I try not to get too bent out if shape about people who put an initial vote on me.

I will test your theory, and simultaneously put myself in position to be voted off.
potent >>> krissy >>> jazmo
You'll note I now have the "lead" in votes, and it's caused by me switching my vote. Will you switch yours off me?
I've gone through all the voting posts to catch up, so I have one handy; by my count:
4 - Potent (JFG, Jimmyroo, Krissy, Jaz)
3 - Jaz (Jim, Bogart, Potent)
3 - Krissy (Farris, Tainted, Rummaging)
1 - Rummaging (Surf)
I re-read the thread quickly, and I would rather see a Potent / Jaz run off, as some one else mentioned. But I would rather see a Krissy / Jaz / Potent run off.
JFG108 > Potent > Rummaging
If my count is right, that should leave Jaz, Krissy and Potent with three votes each. If my count is off, I would vote null to achieve the same outcome.

I meant potent / jaz rather than potent / krissy in a two person run off; sorry for the confusion.
