Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Someone else mentioned it, too, but Bonnaroo's undercard is the selling point for me. This is my third year attending and the headliners have never been what I'm most excited for. I attend the headlining shows, don't get me wrong, but the undercard is where it's at, in my opinion.
Ezra is the guy you would introduce to your dad and they'd bond over a game of golf on the weekends. Alex is the guy that you erase your text messages from in fear of your dad finding out about him.
So Alex is not... Better than Ezra? ... Okay I'm overtired... good night...
Ezra is the guy who will delightfully argue with you that Rushmore is Wes Anderson's best film, while Alex is the guy who will argue with you for buying him the wrong hair gel, then slap you.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Alex seems like a bit of a dick. Cool as fuck for a frontman of a rock band, but not someone who I think I would want to be good friends with
Vampire Weekend? REALLY? Talk about a band that will never, ever reach headliner popularity level, that's it. Sure, they might headline some indie fest, or creep into the 5th or 6th position on a poster with real headliners... but they have exactly zero interest from a large portion of the population.
Arctic Monkeys, on the other hand, took their raucous British streetfight dance music and blended it with sultry sex and ended up legit headliners. If they put out another good record they'll be headliners across the world.
Both of Vampire Weekend's last two albums debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, and all three of their albums have gone gold. The highest Arctic Monkeys have ever charted in the U.S. is #6, and AM is their only album to go gold.
You can't really argue that Vampire Weekend has "exactly zero interest from a large portion of the population" yet extoll the populist virtues of Arctic Monkeys when VW is demonstrably a bigger commercial draw.

I generally agree with @gambit88 about depth over a top-heavy lineup. The only thing is that I can usually see a lot of the undercard in a small venue with a longer set time for $15-$40. I enjoy seeing big names at the top of the lineup for three reasons: 1. It's usually a special show when they play a festival like Bonnaroo 2. Most of us are hardcore music fans. Most of my IRL friends are casual fans. The headliners attract my friends better than the undercard. I've been to parts of Bonnaroo by myself and I've had a blast. But it's even better when a lot of your buddies go. The headliners are better about getting people excited/interested/there. 3. I get the chance to see huge acts that I would probably never be able to see outside of a festival.

Local Natives is a band that has the potential to make the jump in a few years, IMO. They're certainly talented enough, and their live shows have always been well received. I thought they held down the What stage midday pretty well.
Gorilla Manor was a fantastic debut album, and I think Hummingbird is pretty overlooked all things considered. Hummingbird did not provide the instant gratification that GM did, but overall I still find it to be a pretty accessible album.
Their next release will be key. I'm hoping they focus on a more upbeat sound that can really help balance their set lists. Having a song or two land on the radio would go a long way too.
Headliners move tickets especially ones who cost a ton when they tour a stadium and sell out instantly. They get the longest set and the best stage set up, lights, etc at the fest. I need at least 1 headlineat a fest that i have serious interest in to get me to go if im spending upwards up $250 for a ticket and another $300 plus for a flight. If Foo fighters werent palying Hangout this year im not sure I would be going even though i like the lineup as a whole

I saw someone mention an acts headlining status at Big Guava, so I'll bring up this. Come all and float the San Marcos River while enjoying the sounds of headliners Local Natives.
Arctic Monkeys will most definitely be headlining major US festivals during their next touring cycle. Depending on the success of their new album its possible Tame Impala will be moving higher up on lineups soon as well.
Voodoo is pretty major (one of the uncles of rock music festivals), and they headlined Saturday last year and were excellent (Outkast and Foo Fighters were the other main stage headliners). I don't even listen to them on the radio, cd's or whatever, but live, they suck you in. Damn that was a good show. There is a pro-shot of it on YouTube. Just f'n great.

This year, I like the undercard better. The only other time I went to Bonnaroo was 2012. And the headliners, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phish were a major selling point for me. There was great undercard stuff too (Puscifer, Bad Brains, etc.), but that was the last year that I think the top 3 were as giant and the primary reason to go. JMO.

Honestly, I'm not super-pumped about any of the Roo headliners. I'll most likely see them all, but none of them were deal makers for me.
For me, the undercard and overall festival experience make the ticket price worth it.
1/30: Cold War Kids
2/6: Cherub
4/22: The Mountain Goats
5/25: Laura Jane Grace "Killing Me Loudly"
5/31: The Decemberists
6/11-6/14: BONNAROO 2015
6/28: Against Me!
6/30: Against Me!
yea true with a place like Roo or Coachella the experience and a amenities inside are def a selling point bcuz they are 2 of the most unqiue fests int he country. I prob still have went to hangout this year actually just bcuz its on a beautiful beach and people and atmosphere suck you in.

Also VW 'headlined' Gov Ball last year and it was fucking awesome. With Jack White and Outkast as the other headliners. So i don't think Gov Ball is an 'indie' fest. Can't really say they never will headline.... when they already did.

zero interest right here
After seeing them last year I would have to agree. I like all of their albums they are just boring live.
