$100 is a steal. Especially when tickets are planned to go up to $200 eventually. I would expect at $200 a few additions have to be in store?
Plus it's pretty cool that it takes place on the national mall.
It doesn't take place on the mall exactly, West Potomac Park is on Haynes Pointe, which is south of what people consider "the mall" (although connected and still technically the mall).
Well technically Hains Point is East Potomac Park and West Potomac is up below the Lincoln right by the MLK Memorial but point is still valid.
In the next few weeks, organizers will hold a public lottery for fans to win free tickets and announce details of a special event in D.C. that will be open to the public for free.
Additionally, free entertainment will be staged at various sites in the area, along with "other activations around the city which are yet to be announced," Jones says
The possibilities of after-shows makes me a happy boy.
Also, I'm probably way more excited about Drake than I should be.

1,000 free tickets is actually quite a lot to give away/would provide for not a bad chance of getting one, but I didn't feel like taking my chances on that and then missing the great deal of an $100 ticket.

you guys/gals who are familiar with the area, where should i be looking for hotels? any specific areas?
Definitely agree on Rosslyn/Crystal City; those aren't far across the river from where it will be, and they're safe areas for sure. I don't know what hotel prices would be like but I assume not too bad - especially in comparison to anywhere in downtown

thanks guys. there's a washington hilton on connecticut ave. for $99. i think i'm just going to book that one, because it seems nice and close and cheaper than a lot of the other options close by.

Is that the Hilton in DuPont? Wow if that's only $99, book that shit! Amazing deal. Fun area to explore too

You could also try AirBNB. My girlfriend and I spent Memorial Day weekend in DC last year, and we ended up booking a place through AirBNB. Prices were reasonable (I think we payed $70/night), and we were in a good location (10-minute walk from the nearest Metro stop).
You probably already know them but check out Avers (if you don't). They've been making a regional splash as of late and I think up your alley. I know it's a Head And The Heart side project ( I wanna say the drummer) and really good live.
I do not know them. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll be checking them out right now.
(I discovered the Hunts from this lineup. Love their sound)
Yay, I'm excited I'll probably get to meet some of you in music fest mode before Summer 2016, since I can't make it to Roo this year. And a few of you cool people are going to FF too (namely thinking Swedish Chef and potentpotables), but that thread is mostly overrun with Firefly-only-always-and-forever peeps who like to get riled up over very trivial matters (yeah I realize they might be reading this). Oh and also Farrisbueller - you're local; in for this?

That's the Washington Hilton and yes, it's a 10-minute walk to DuPont Circle. There is a fabulous farmer's market right near there on Sunday mornings where you can also get coffee and breakfast. That's a great rate for that hotel, nicely done.
awesome! i'm glad to hear it's a good one. i actually booked through the festival site, as that was the best deal i found for somewhere so close. if anyone else needs to book a hotel, they currently have a bunch of deals if you go through the festival. events.hotelsforhope.org/v6/search/longLat?_s=dtWvokt08u9akM2u&_k=e5SGKcNa&siteId=28055 (sorted by price)

Sorry rummy, I'm out for Landmark, there are a couple ones I like but overall the lineup doesn't impress me much, I've seen a good portion of the ones I do want to see, and Drake is gross as fuck. But you may see me at Made in America depending on their lineup!

You don't impress me much.
Hahaha just kidding - Drake is very gross, you're correct. I'm all for planning an inforoo meet-up to frolic through the monuments during his set?

I was literally in the midst of finishing up for capstone paper last night around 4 AM and told myself not to get distracted, but if I didn't I would have never gotten the $100 First In price! The Strokes, Alt J, CHVRCHES, Ben Howard, Chromeo, Band of Horses, The War on Drugs, George Ezra, Nate Ruess, Lord Huron, Daughter, The Lone Bellow, Dr John, Houndmouth, The Joy Formidable, Dan Deacon, Albert Hammond Jr, Hiss Golden Messenger...I mean holy quack is that a steal. I'd be better off listing what I don't want to see...which I think is just Drake. Judging by the general taste for the festival, I assume Im gonna discover some new gems too.
Also because its a 2 day festival, I am assuming that Drake will go opposed one night (or at least Im hoping). If that happens, that might make for one heck of an Alt J experience with most of the crowd wasting there time on the main stage.

I have a feeling alt-J will be the same night as The Strokes. Which will be too bad if they're on different stages. I'd love if they oppose Drake though.

I don't really see Drake opposing Alt-J, since they're respectively 1 and 3; I would think instead that Alt-J plays right before either Drake or The Strokes? Who knows though!

Interesting that this fest was booked by C3 Presents (Lolla, ACL). The Washington Post story said they're hoping for 50,000 people. I hope this sticks around -- it has tons of potential and a nice cause -- but it's amazing how many of these little 2-day city fests are popping up now.
I'm really anxious to see the schedule. With 5 stages and a 10 pm curfew, there'll be some tough choices.

What's the closest Metro station to this?
There's a 10 pm curfew for sure? Damn, missed that part :/ That probably will make the conflicts really rough. I was hoping for 11 pm/midnight.
Lots of close metro stations, Smithsonian and L'Enfant are probably the closest though. I've never minded getting off at Metro Center though (since I live off the red line, and I hate transferring on the DC metros...you'll understand why if you come and try it out haha our delays are constant) and walking down to the Mall area, hardly a 15 minute walk.
