2017: 2/24 Twenty One Pilots 4/1 Radiohead 6/7 Glass Animals 9/10 Modest Mouse 9/21 Arcade Fire 9/29 Kings of Leon 10/3 Foster the People 10/17 The xx 10/22 LCD Soundsystem 11/8 Bon Iver
I'd say yes, they'd occupy similar spots on the lineup and, for Roo's intents and purposes, they cater to a similar audience. I'm hoping they could afford to book Lorde a little lower, thus keeping her on the lineup, but I don't see that happening either. A bit of a bummer. My ranking would go Lorde > Lana > Ellie, but I have hope that Lorde will happen eventually.
I would imagine so. At this point, Ellie, Lana, and Lorde are all top-6 acts, and it would be very un-Roo-like to book two female pop acts that high in the same year.
Yup. Bonnaroo filled up their lady quota, you guys. No reason to anticipate there will be any other women in the top 20 now.
Can you see honestly see them having two female pop acts in the top 6-10? It's sad, and I'd be happy if I was proven wrong, but for now I'm sticking with "it won't happen." The one exception would be a female headliner and female undercard act.

Who said anything about top 20? Roo just has a tendency to book overwhelmingly male acts at the top of their lineups. If we're talking about top 20, I would expect at least one of Ellie/Lana/Lorde, as well as HAIM, and perhaps a couple of mixed gender acts for next year (e.g., CHVRCHES). Maybe Beyonce if Roo is willing to be bold and enter the 21st century.

In past 5 years Bonnaroo has averaged roughly 1 woman per year in the top 20, maybe 1.5 if you include mixed gender bands. So yeah, I think Ellie Goulding pretty well checks the "lady" category for 2016.
Although, the suggestion that Lorde/Lana/Ellie Goulding make music that's similar enough to justify this is pretty silly.
I think in Bonnaroo's eyes, that's kind of the case. For instance, I think it's much more likely they book Ellie and Alabama Shakes than Ellie and Lorde.
(Yes, I realize they won't book Alabama Shakes this year and Lorde and AS aren't at the same level of popularity)
Who are gonna be the Caribou-type acts? I'm not well-versed in the semantics of defining genres, but whatever Caribou is, I want more of it. That's my favorite stuff to see live.
Here are a few artists I'd love to see at the Roo (some returning)
Animal Collective Avey Tare Nicolas Jaar Four Tet Hot Chip James Blake

I have no idea if any of these are likely but I would like to see some of: Todd terje, Moderat, ratatat, soulwax/2manyDJs
So with Ellie Goulding's tour dates it looks like she's going to end up playing Roo on Saturday. Where does she fall on the lineup? I'd have to believe she'd pre-headline the What Stage considering she will be in the middle of a US arena tour. There's no way they put her on Which, and she is def not headlining.
