Although, the suggestion that Lorde/Lana/Ellie Goulding make music that's similar enough to justify this is pretty silly.
Exactly. None of them are like the other IMO. If Ellie is there I don't think that makes Lana and Lorde out. I reallly want this to be the year Roo gets Lana, I've seen her three times now and she's gotten stronger with her performances each time. This last time really blew me away. But she recently told Rolling Stones she doesn't have immediate plans to tour for her new album Honeymoon since she's been on tour for the past four years, which makes me think it might not happen this year either. Lorde would be awesome too, she's a good performer as well, just need that second album!
Consensus on reddit seems to be that she won't be top 10 because only teenage girls like her (since, if someones music is very popular, that means only teenage girls listen to it).
The number 11 act in 2015 was Flume. In 2014 is was Frank Ocean.

I'm willing to bet that if they get Ellie, they won't get Lana as well. I think Lorde woulld be more likely than Lana in that case, but I don't think she would happen either.

I guess I don't disagree, I just think it's kind of silly. In my head, having one shouldn't discount having the other. I suppose I could see why a fest wouldn't go with both though.

It's definitely silly, but it's the same reason they probably wouldn't book Coldplay and The Killers. While they're really not that musically similar, the top names on a lineup have a big effect on who comes to the festival, so the more diverse your top set of names are, the more different audiences you can theoretically bring in. To be fair, though, Bonnaroo has, on numerous occasions, defied that thought process.

Ha, sure. "Diverse."
A bunch of white guys, with one token black artist and one token woman (sometimes). It's really just artists that are perceived as catering to slightly different audiences.

It's really hard to guess because I don't think roo has ever booked anyone like Ellie Goulding before. Or if they did they did it when they were a lot smaller and a lot lower on the lineup.

Definitely the most popular female artist they've ever gotten (Bjork is many things, but not popular). But I think it's pretty easy to look at her tour dates and determine that it'd be ridiculous to put her outside the top 10.
If those were Avicii's tour dates, we be debating whether he'd be booked 3rd or 4th.

Maybe this is the first step towards the female pop healiner you want.
So Brian Wilson just announced another fest where he's performing Pet Sounds (Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia). Think there's a chance he could be at Roo?

Would there be less of a possibility of this happening since Beach Boys performed in 2012?

Beach Boys are touring in 2016. And Brian Wilson has his own tour going on as well. Does that mean he is not touring with the Beach Boys? And if he is not, should I still spend $50 on tickets to see them locally?

Welcome to the terrible, confusing history of the Beach Boys reunion. Pretty much right after the big reunion tour Mike Love went back to touring as the Beach Boys with the pre-reunion lineup. Relatively fun show, but definitely not worth $50

Any chance American Football is doing stuff next summer? They played a new song on their shows this year and I've heard stories from people who met some of the members. Apparently they said there's a good chance for a new album.
