Joanna Newsom's tour ends in April and she has no stops in TN. I'd love her to be in a tent
Sameeeee. But I don't think it is particularly likely. I know she played in 2005 but I find it difficult to imagine how her harp & lovely but unusual voice would translate to a large festival performance.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Don't worry, her audience wouldn't be large.
And if the throat singer can play Bonnaroo, Newsom certianly can again.

It went over well at Pitchfork in 2013:
I could never stand Joanna Newsom's music, but after listening to that, I now get it. Thank you shuck . Thank you.

she just sounds like Bjork with just a harp... I don't get it

You're welcome! I should note that when I saw her a few weeks ago and she had a full live band with her, which changes the arrangements pretty significantly. At that show in 2013, it was just her playing the songs on either piano or harp. I don't know if for festival performances she only does the solo arrangements or if she's ever had a band with her, but it does change how it sounds.
Either way, listening to her on record doesn't affect me that much, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't cried multiple times during her shows.
Have we ruled out Missy Elliot yet? I'm seeing her a lot these days. Could be fun.
I was disappointed at her Essence Festival show this year, but it was one of her first few performances in years and I'd give her another shot. But she's got to perform more than just the first verse and chorus for me to stay.
MGMT are planning on doing stuff in 2016 so they're an option
Lets hope not
I really liked a few of their songs, the ones that everyone knows (Kids, Electric Feel, Time to Pretend, The Youth) but the rest of their catalog is like, really really terrible IMO.

Yes. And they're apparently horrendous live.
That's certainly the majority opinion around these parts.
For what it's worth, that's the book on them from their older days. They used to be absolute trash live (particularly around 2008-2010 or so), but I randomly happened upon them a year or two back and they were competent. The hits from Oracular Spectacular sounded great.
It seems to have developed into a hit or miss trend. I saw a definitive "miss" from them at summerfest a couple of years back.

I'm hoping they're at Boston Calling, a festival I care a little less about, just so I can have a chance to check them out. If they were at Roo, I'd probably skip them for something better. I liked their first two albums and have never seen them, but given their reputation I don't think I'd seek out their live show

I completely disagree. I think their hits like Kids and Time to Pretend are trite and uninteresting and that their album Congratulations is a modern psych-pop gem. Seriously, I don't understand how so many people can just write off songs like Brian Eno, Song For Dan Treacy, or Siberian Breaks.

Different folks different strokes lol, I just tried to listen to those songs you listed and couldn't finish any of them.

I would assume the quality of their live show is largely defined by the quality of their active acid trip.
I remember being front row for their Thursday "headliner" show years ago (I think it might have been the first Thursday?) and enjoying two of their openers significantly more (one was Battles to be fair)

THIS. Congratulations is beautiful and one of my all-time favorite songs.. hence my username. I would love to see MGMT on the farm sry
2017: 2/24 Twenty One Pilots 4/1 Radiohead 6/7 Glass Animals 9/10 Modest Mouse 9/21 Arcade Fire 9/29 Kings of Leon 10/3 Foster the People 10/17 The xx 10/22 LCD Soundsystem 11/8 Bon Iver
I must not have paid attention to MGMT until too late then. By that time there was already a long history of them being terrible live and I hated that Kids song so I didn't even really bother...
