I had a great time at the show (I'm a huge Billy Joel fan) but was still disappointed in the early ending and lack of encores. I do agree that it seems like maybe he wasn't feeling well or something - I have seen him before and as I remember he was much more engaging at that show too. Seems like maybe this show got cut short for some reason - to which I say, oh well, things happen. Yes, it's disappointing, but still - I got to see Billy Joel again, I got to sing along to "Piano Man" on the farm with 90,000 people which is something I've been looking forward to for years, I got to hang out and dance with some great friends, I got to see Chainsaw sing "Highway to Hell" which was just amazing, and then I got to go watch GoT with the aforementioned great friends. Can't really complain too much.

I really enjoyed it, and knew the words to so many songs that I forgot I knew. The man is a legend and I feel lucky to have seen him, and I think he gave a good performance. But the end was just confusing. Was he coming back out again? Should I wait? Oh no, I guess Bonnaroo is over. OK, off to watch Game of Thrones oh no wait I have to stand here shielding my eyes with my fingers in my ears because they started the previous showing late (I guess that's what I really wanted to complain about)
It just kind of fell flat; something must have quacked up, or like others said, he didn't feel well.
Crowds were unnapreciative at every show. It was like these people had never been to a concert before. Brittany Howard was visibly pissed off and didn't do her encore cause no one cheered worth a damn after she shook the earth with her voice. No one sang fucking piano man. PIANO MAN GOD DAMNIT. IT WAS SILENT WHEN BILLY STOPPED SINGING AND EXPECTED US TO JOIN IN. I want to blame the heat for the lack of enthusiasm but it was an issue at night clearly too. I won't be back to roo unless it someday reverts back to what it was.
I loved the set, but the lack of encore was just weird. I also don't understand why he wouldn't do something different for Bonnaroo. Cover something cool from another artist, bring on a guest, something than just put it on on Billy Joel autopilot. I just think he could have brought something new out of his bag of tricks.
I also think that if the headliner is going to be a more mainstream older skewing artist, they need to offer something else for people that aren't into that. The number of people around me that came to have a conversation with a Billy Joel concert in the background was super annoying. Give the people who aren't into it somewhere else to be. Same issue during Mumford's set too.
I realize that I'm quoting from the first page and the thread is longer now, and I may edit after I catch up on the thread, but I think this problem of people talking during the show is a generational thing. I started experiencing this a LOT at shows since 2012. Nothing gets on my nerves more than trying to enjoy the show while everyone around me is talking about stupid bullshit. If you want to hang out and talk, there is plenty of space in the campground or even other areas of centeroo for that matter.
As for the Billy Joel set...very strange. Boring first half full of deep cuts, then just as he started hitting his stride ripping through the hits, he leaves and doesn't even say goodbye. Very weird.

Someone said it had something to do with people tearing apart the arch on Sunday last year, not sure if that is the reason.
And congratulations!
I was told by a security guy it was because they couldn't handle the rush of people that would have gone under the arch. Seems weird considering there are just as many people each year. Oh and people were taking parts of the arch on Sunday this year so I'm calling BS on that being the reason.
This is obviously a load of horse shit. What difference does it make if the crowd goes through the arch or not when discussing security's ability to handle the crowd?

I don't think it's so much generational as it is locational. If you're deep in a crowd, I find that you encounter less show talkers. The closer you get to the outskirts of the crowd the more talkers you encounter. The drunk people tend to talk more, and louder, as well. So there's that. I will admit, our group for Billy Joel was very large and more kept coming during the set. We were dancing, talking, laughing, taking pictures, etc. but I don't feel bad about it because we were pretty far back and the crowd was sparse back where we were. If we were further up and interrupting people really focusing on the show, then I would've felt bad.
Anyways, I had a fantastic time at Billy Joel. I honestly attribute that to the amazing group of people I watched and danced with, but he sounded good too. We were pretty far back, bur the only thing I was disappointed in was the abrupt, early ending. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe you guys just need better friends to spend your shows with.
Am I the only one who saw that Billy Joel was lip syncing?
This is correct. I don't think he did it the whole show, or very often, but he did it on the first two songs back from the break (I think). There were a couple of times that it was very obvious.
I read on the FB page from someone who claimed to be working security that Billy had planned to end the set early and immediately leave due to security reasons, and that a lot of the staff didn't know that would be happening until 5 minutes before he left. Also something about a car blowing up, but I don't know if that's related.

I liked the part during Billy Joel when I realized it just wasn't going to be cool at all. So I took advantage of that by leaving early and beat everyone back to camp so that I could make use of some proper, nutsack-scrubbing alone time.
The most annoying thing about this post is that you posted an incomplete row of Billy Joels. Finish the job, man, cuz my OCD is kicking up like whoa.
wrong. The most annoying thing about that post is scrolling through it on mobile. It comes up 2 pictures row line. But Jesus fuck, SFA, that was awful.
And then scrolling through all the BBC code to quote this sucked too. It's just a giant ball of suck.
I mean, nobody was forcing you to sit there were they? Also, towards the front we knew pretty quickly that it was over because they started playing the house music, I'm guessing that couldn't be heard further back.
I heard the house music start playing all the way from The Other Tent during Game of Thrones so I don't think that's the case.
