My moment was being in the tent for Caribou when he/they launched into Can't Do Without You toward the end of the set. The music, combined with the crowd dancing, clapping and singing together as one was heavenly. I'm so glad I reserved some energy for that show.
Having my ass unexpectedly slapped at 5:30 in the morning, only to turn around and see krissyjo laughing hysterically. She then practically vanished into thin air.
I've never made it to a Superjam or stayed up to see the sunrise, and this year I was determined to do both.
When the Superjam started, I had a hell of a time hearing it, but I wasn't giving up. I pulled Chris through the crowd and finally found a spot at the tree behind the screen. It was *perfect*. The sound was fine and the tree was on an incline, so I could actually SEE (big deal for a 5 foot lady) the stage. With the tree at my back, I didn't have anyone pushing past me, either. I saw the entire Superjam and was so flipping excited the whole time.
Afterwards, we sat in front of the crazy lightup art car which we dubbed the "Moth Car" because people flocked to it like moths. The people watching was amazing that night.
We made our way to Kalliope, stayed in the back, danced til sunrise, then was trying to figure out where to go next. Two guys were sitting in front of us and another two walked past them. The guys walking stopped to say hi to the guys sitting and this conversation happened:
"Hey man! How you doin? Did you find it?" "No, we've looked all over, too!" "Shit, that sucks." "Yeah, I know! That's the fourth one this weekend!" "Damned marbles."
After laughing our asses off, Chris said, "Yep. That's it. We're done." and we made our way out of Centeroo.
Monday morning, I woke up and the guys camped next to me from Texas (there were like 5 of yall in pod 10 -- one of them is a lurker!!!) were getting their campsite packed up, too. Over the course of the weekend, I had given them bracelets, let them borrow my tarp, and they were just the coolest neighbors. I gave them some of my ice chest water one day and we talked about shows almost daily -- who had seen what the night before. They were just cool guys. Monday, they had let me borrow their knife to cut down our zip ties. As I was about to drive off, I remembered I had about 4 pre-rolled pieces of sand that I didn't want to drive with, and gave them to my neighbors with a "happy bonnaroo!" -- best way to end a festival. Loved those guys!!!

Saturday night, I was following 2 of the coolest people I've ever met in my life..... we were looking for food and there it was. Ozark Mountain Co. The sign above said "SOUTHERN SIDES - BISCUIT AND GRAVY" and I walked to it like my soul was drawn to it. That biscuit was basic but it saved my life that night.

I wondered if you travelled home with your sand, haha. Good call...I wouldn't have wanted to either! Great way to end Bonnaroo...sharing is caring.
I was working on one of the paramedic carts on Saturday. I had to camp in the very back of pod 10's campground. It seemed like a mile walk to work. So, I wore a T-shirt and shorts to work and took a shower and changed when I got there. On Saturday I had left ALL of my money in my shorts in my backpack (like a big dummy) and put my wallet in my Uniform shorts. I had my backpack strapped onto the golf cart ambulance. Sometime during my shift it disappeared! Fortunately, I had brought enough food for me and my wife to get by on and had enough gas to get back home. But on Sunday, my backpack with everything in it including my money were at lost and found! I was so happy and amazed at someone's generosity! To whoever found it and went through the trouble of turning it in, THANK YOU ever so much! I am convinced that any other event I've worked someone would have taken anything valuable from it. This and all those who led us to those who were in need of help and didn't ignore them, these were my Bonnaroo moments! Seeing that people still care for one another made my Roo.

A friend and I were determined to stay up until sunrise on Saturday night. It was my friend's first Bonnaroo and I really wanted him to get the full late night experience. Unfortunately, he loves Mumford and Sons. So he waited a while to get great positioning in the pit for his favorite band. We were supposed to meet up at Hammageddon after, but phones died and we missed the connection. I did not think he'd make it all night.
As I arrived back to camp I saw him standing there, leaning up against his car with a big, dumbass smile on his face.
We weren't even a minute into recapping the night before what appeared to be a homeless man came up with writing on a cardboard sign that said something along the lines of, "Need help for a ride to Michigan." He was completely fucked up and began drunkenly slurring about how he could use even just a quarter to help him get back home that night. Whatever he was saying was basically inaudible through the drugs and apparent exhaustion.
Feeling confident that this wasn't actually a person in need and was just a messed up festival goer, we laughed for maybe 20 minutes because of that interaction and the effects of our own state of delirium.

It was also cool when several people on the rail and the surrounding area sparked their blunts as D'Angelo took the stage and sang the opening lines to "Ain't That Easy", "Take a toke of smoke with me as you dream inside."

so many amazing moments!
- making the most amazing friends with the people i camped with (because i went solo) - meeting the founders of bonnaroo while working my shift during the festival!! - dancing to Alabama Shakes as the sun went down since they were my first band of the weekend - accidently finding myself in the staff pit at the front for the superjam with my fellow shift volunteer and dancing and singing until 4 in the morning because i just couldn't leave such a clutch spot - wandering around centroo wednesday morning before ga got there and taking in how beautifully empty it was and how nice and green the grass was and then wandering around Thursday morning and loving everyone - seeing Twenty One Pilots for the first time (even though I had zero intention of seeing them) and completely falling in love with them (seriously...i'm now obsessed!) -miraculously getting most of our hodge podge brand new group together and up front for billy joel where we sung out hearts out, swayed to the music and acted like we'd been friends forever. - finally - helping make sure this epic glow stick snake made its way through the crowd at billy joel without breaking!

I kept hearing about this place. Where was it? EXACTLY?!?
It was by the tents -- near the ferris wheel. Long stretch of food vendors

THERE ARE SO MANY TENTS!!!!! I do think I know what you're talking about though. Was it close to the new MTV thing where Adult Swim used to be in between That Tent and The Other Tent?
It was also cool when several people on the rail and the surrounding area sparked their blunts as D'Angelo took the stage and sang the opening lines to "Ain't That Easy", "Take a toke of smoke with me as you dream inside."
Agreed! I was slow to the draw but was able to get mine and share during Really Love. That whole set was a Bonnaroo moment.
Biscuits were in food row between that tent and the ferris wheel.
I present the biscuit burger. Omfg it was good.
Not the best photo though
I ordered one with eggs, and the people I was with at the time made a comment about not trusting eggs at a festival which reminded me of that time I got food poisoning from beale street music festival in 2014 for eating eggs. So i tossed the egg and just had a cheese biscuit. No regrets. Hopefully they'll be back next year and I'll try more. Honestly, I saw "southern" and I knew immediately this was my vendor. This picture looks AMAZING. Anything with a biscuit is pretty much legit in my book.

My wife had the egg. I had the chicken both times. Started to get the burger the 2nd time but I wanted the chicken again.

Yeah. I almost forgot how D asked the crowd to throw their devil horns in the air and waive them side to side. It was a great time. I only wish they would have played longer.

Not a personal story but a good one. One of the guys that camped with us this year I had never met until right before entering the festival. He was a really friendly and energetic person, who was definitely keeping everyone's moods up and constantly having a good time. It was Saturday night, we had just gotten done having the time of our lives at Atomic Bomb. We went to see some of Slayer, then started walking over to get food. I get my food and notice that he's still looking through his backpack. I ask what he's looking for, and for the first time all weekend he looks at me with a completely blank and serious face and says "I lost my wallet. All my money is in there. All my drugs are in there. My ID is in there". He's obviously freaking out. We tried to look for it, I tried to get him to forget about it and come see a show with us, tell him we'll have better luck in the morning. We are waiting for D'Angelo and he finally gives up and says he's going back to camp to try to sleep. Bummer. So I was not there during this the next day, but this is how I was told the events unfolded on Sunday. He ended up going to Lost and Found, where he found his wallet. He looks in it, and his money is there. He looks for the place where he was keeping his drugs, and there is a little note that says "I took your drugs because I didn't want volunteers or police to. Call this number and I'll give them back to you". He called the number, and met up with a girl that gave it all back. Apparently he ended the story with "I'M BACK BABYYYYYYY" and proceeded to run in the Caribou tent and dance his ass off. He never came back to camp before I left Monday morning but I heard he was last seen walking away with a pretty girl he met Sunday night. You're a rockstar, John.

Being front row for Mac DeMarco after waiting the whole day (through Strand of Oaks, Iceage, The Growlers, and Courtney Barnett, which I all loved) and as Ode to Viceroy plays he tells us to get on each others' shoulders. I knew no one there, and this sweet, INSANELY tall guy asks if I'd like to get on his shoulders. Even if it was just one song that moment was just so perfect.
Being front row for Hozier after waiting a few hours in the heat, (after meeting and getting a photo with James Marcus Haney) he grinned at me multiple times and during Like Real People Do he gave me a thumbs up followed by a grin and it just made me tear up because I was just so happy and grateful to be at Roo and to be so close to one of my favorite artists. Damn I'm lame.
And, being on the VIP mound for Florence + The Machine as she played Dog Days Are Over... Everyone was so happy, energetic, and dancing. It was so beautiful it was almost like it was from a dream. The sun was going down, everyone was happy. There was so much loooove. It gave me chills and every time I watch my video from it I still get chills.
2017: 2/24 Twenty One Pilots 4/1 Radiohead 6/7 Glass Animals 9/10 Modest Mouse 9/21 Arcade Fire 9/29 Kings of Leon 10/3 Foster the People 10/17 The xx 10/22 LCD Soundsystem 11/8 Bon Iver
This was my first 'Roo so I wasn't sure what to expect. I wandered up to the main rat maze by the arch to get into Centeroo about an hour after it opened and as I'm winding my way through the maze I keep hearing a crackly noise like when someone pops bubble wrap. I kept hearing it and wondered what it was, then I figured it out--it was the noise made by everyone's palms high-fivin' each other! Gave me cold chills... All the volunteers came in on Tuesday and that night we had a few random "BONNAROOOO!s through the pod (pod 1). But Wednesday night the rest of the pod got filled up with GA campers, and THEN when someone would cut loose with "BONNAROO!!!" it would circle around and around the campground like a vocal version of the "wave" done at sporting events. Powerful stuff!
If you tried to pick up a $5 bill in centeroo, then hopefully I gave you a high five or something =D
I didn't keep count this year, but it seemed like a person was falling for it every 3 or 4 minutes.
I did meet this amazing Canadian couple that came down for their first Roo while playing the game and we hung out all day Saturday & Sunday. I think our little group all decided that Atomic Bomb! was out favorite show of the wkend. I've been on cloud nine since Roo, it really recharged my faith in humanity.
