Looking at the top right corner, since 15A is Churches, I think that locks in Phosphorescent as 6D. From there 9A could be Soundgarden (or Small Black), and Soundgarden at 9A would allow for JackU as 5D.
Founders wouldn't book Soundgarden.
GEAZY
They booked Guns N' Roses one year, so I can see them booking Soundgarden. I am not saying they are there, but it is at least possible.

Where's the connection between in GnR and Soundgarden? I'm not saying they won't be there, I just don't understand that logic.
Music is different as far genre goes, but they both are generally a hard rock band from the 80's and 90's. Not the type of acts that the Governors Ball promoters normally book, but they won't pass up the opportunity to do it if they are there. Also, with potential competitors in the NYC area, I could see them booking someone that other festivals may not have.

gotcha, I'd definitely at least watch half of their show if they were there. I was just confused cause i didn't see the connection
I can't remember, do they do day tickets for this?
Yup! But they don't go on sale immediately. Three days will go up in January, day by day around late March/April.
Does the 3-day pass come as a single ticket, or 3 tickets, one for each day? I'd like to go to all 3, but may end up just being able to do Sunday, but don't want to be stuck not being able to sell the extra days.

All the tickets are wristbands with RFID chip in them like Bonnaroo. Theres a 3 day one; and then single day bands with different colors representing each day.
About $130 a day. Most shows in NYC are $40-50 for what would be considered undercard acts. About $75-$100 and up for what would be considered headliners. So if you like 3 undercard acts and headliner on a given day, I'd say it's sort of a bargain. You can always opt for a payment plan as well.
They are on sale right now for $275, which is less than $92/day.

he was talking about the individual day tickets. I agree that $130/day isn't bad if you just factor in the number of shows you'll see in that one day. However, if you compare 130 for the day pass to what the daily of the weekend pass is (92/day) it's rough

not condoning firefly as a decent fest at all, but i paid 99$ for a friday pass in 2014 at ff and got to see about 9 bands, was able to have time to just hangout and get food, and didn't miss any of the headliner. at gov ball if you took some time for food, you would see maybe 6 bands and have to chose between the headliner and a very high level act. idk i just think 130 is a bit much.

Lolla is $275 for a 3 day and $110 for daily. Pretty comparable to me.
Okay so because I really like puzzles and have too much free time...tonight I'm going to create an Excel workbook with all the artists listed on azlyrics.com. I feel that should give us a good database to pull from. I can sort those artists by the length of name, and I just need to find a way to search for characters in specific positions in the cells. This should help considerably.
Feel free to share the workbook with me, I can snap you my email address even if you want. I can try to help.
Will do; I've made it through "E" so far. I've been able to get the formulas to search for a single letter in a certain position or two letters in any position, but not two letters in specific positions. Regardless, between that and knowing the length of the word, we should be able to narrow things down considerably.
It has every artist on AZLyrics.com, organized by artist name length (and a separate sheet for each letter). Please note that AZLyrics places links under both first and last names, so you will find both "adamsryan" and "ryanadams". I wasn't about to go through and clear all those out. Also, they put "the" at the end of artist names, so the best way to determine if "The Strokes" fits into the crossword puzzle is too look at name lengths instead of using any formulas, because the letters will be in a different position on the spreadsheet than they will be on the crossword puzzle.
As for the formulas themselves, in case anyone cares to use them. The current formula in there is
This will search for the letter R in the third position of a word, and for E in the fourth position of a word. If an artist does not have both these letters, it will say #VALUE!. If it has both letters but not in the right place, it will say "Nope". Artists that fit the parameters will say "Found". So with the current formula, "Atreyu" will come up as "Found". Edit the letters and position to suit your needs.
If there's only one letter that you need, use this formula:
=IF(FIND("r",A1)=3,"Found","Nope")
This will just search for R in the third position. Honestly it might not be worth your effort to mess with the formulas if you're not Excel-savvy, but if you're good with Find/Replace you can make it worth your while. Regardless, just having a database organized by artist name length should help. I'm at work so I don't have my crossword in front of me, but I'll post what I've got so far later tonight.

I feel like there's too much wiggle room in the other boxes to even try to fill anything in.
I think 28 across is Tokimonsta and 17 down could be Flatbush Zombies
There's a few possibilities for 28A - Thundercat, The Killers, The Strokes, Talib Kweli...makes it hard for me to pick any one person. FZ works for 17D, but GovBall tweeted a reply to someone who guess Albert Hammond Jr., though tbh I have no clue what to make of those crystal balls at this point.
