I can live with one or two lame headliners at gov ball because they're opposed. It really is just gonna depend on how this and the new AEG fest matchup
I like Mumford & Sons. I don't see this as a negative
honestly, having Mumsons isn't really bad. They just get old fast for me, but they sell alot of tix, so I'll never be angry/surprised that a fest booked them. It's just that they've played everywhere now and they haven't changed at all, that's why I call them lame

Mumford and Sons announced their 2016 tour dates. No NYC, and it looks like they'll be on the east coast in June with govball weekend wide open. Looks like they're a lock.

Nah, I think that 6/15 date in Saratoga Springs, NY, makes them much more likely for Firefly than Gov Ball.

If you think they're lame that's fine, but I'd hardly say they haven't changed at all. Maybe not between their first two albums, but they went from acoustic to electric in their last one - that's a pretty big change. Completely changed their aesthetic as well, from the old-timey brown vest shit to some faux-rock star black shirts and skinny jeans shit.

Ok, they didn't change at all between the first two and the only change on the new album is the figured out how to use an amp, but they still have the same sound. Also, I do not consider a wardrobe change to be a change in a band. They can use it to signify/symbolize a change, sure. But, if a band is playing fake americana songs and saying heart a mllion times, it's the same whether they are wearing brown vests or black shirts.... maybe I stand alone on that

I don't think they sound the same on the new album when compared to the first two. Maybe I need to re-listen. To me they sound like a few other bands more than the first two Mumford albums. Definitely felt like they were going for more arena rock style.

Did you listen to the third album at all? I wouldn't consider it Americana; it's definitely more rock-pop. There's no banjo on it and I'm pretty sure I remember reading that Marcus specifically decided not to use the word "heart" or "hand" in it due to criticisms of his lyrics on the last two albums.
Does 4 nights of Phish from December 30-Jan 2nd make Phish less likely for Gov Ball? So does this mean Jay Z or Radiohead is the one Gov Ball talked to judging by the claims made earlier. I know 6 months doesn't mean anything for radius clause but if you have 4 times to see them then I don't know if they would be an attractive booking. Although Phish fans...

i don't think so since its 6 months later. doesnt make them any more likely either.

Gov Ball has been trying to get Phish for a long time, regardless of NYE runs.
You're probably literally most likely slightly missing the rules, not that you'd need them to figure out that all or nearly all of those are unlikely.
It's possible that the rules might bend slightly to allow for Coldplay on the basis of information to which I don't have access. That's part of why I've made an exception and bumped them up onto my short list along with the fact that they've done it before, this is the last gasp, new album, etc., but they're still at the bottom of that list.
Come to think of it that rule bend could allow for Mumford too, but I'm not sure why it would this year and not last year, after they've already done two Forum shows and signed on along with Kendrick and the Foos to no-name shit like Okeechobee. You think that Coachella and Panorama are going to feature two of the same headliners? Maybe AEG is becoming that cookie-cutter, but if anyone's bending the rules next year, I think it's Coldplay.
wait, so is Mumford playing Coachella or Panorama? or is Coldplay playing ome of Gov/Coach/Panorama? I'm confused
The AEG McFestival plan is to cart the Mumsons and their banjos between Firefly and Bananarama in the same weekend. Play one Friday the other on Sunday.
gotchaaaa, thanks. Well, if I go to Panorama, I guess I know which headliner I'll be skipping for one of the Cure shows.
Any one of those would be a nightmare scenario for any festival.
American festivals are so incredibly disappointing. Its almost painful to read the rumors for Euro festivals.
That being said... I'd begrudgingly take Coldplay doing a greatest hits set.
yeah, Ihave to avoid those european festival lineups because every time I look at one, I go check my bank account and factor in all the things I'd have to pay for... needless to say, I end up sadly listening to some artist on the lineup that never plays in the US that got me excited, daydreaming about how great it would be to hear those aongs live...

Meh, euro fest lineups are just as repetitive and uninspired as US ones, just in a different way.
Unless you really want to see Muse, Coldplay and Buffy Clyro headline everything every year.
Difference is Europe has enough interesting festivals to cancel out any uninspired bookings by something like Isle of Wight or V Fest. America is getting there with stuff like Levitation or Big Ears, but there's no denying fests like Le Guess Who or Primavera get the cream of the crop. I mean, the rumors for Primavera are just disgustingly good.
But I will eat my words if Big Ears can get Annette Peacock.
