The majority of his sets always weighs heavy on Pink Floyd material. I would compare it to Macca's setlist. You have to deal with some new-ish stuff but you still get the hits.
Not necessarily true. First of all, he's only done two big tours (1984 and 2006). The 2006 shows were about 50/50 in terms of solo vs. Pink Floyd songs. The 1984 shows almost entirely consisted of solo songs.
So if we base this on a tour that happened less than a decade ago and not the one thirty years ago, then you're saying I'm right?

Um, no. Paul McCartney's sets are roughly 60-65% Beatles songs, 25-30% Wings songs, and 10% solo material. And I wouldn't say 50/50 leans heavily in either direction. Neither of us knows what the breakdown will look like for the 2016 shows. We only have two samples to work with, so it's kind of difficult to draw any definitive conclusions.

Dude, you should chill on your numbers obsession a bit.
If what you're saying I'm wrong about is that Paul plays 10-15% more Beatles material than David does Floyd, I'm ok with that.

No need to make this personal. Either way, I'm sure his show will be great, and I hope you enjoy it (if you get a ticket).

New single is out.
As for the 1984 tour. Pink Floyd hadn't officially broken up at that point. But this was after years of Waters alienating himself from the others. I don't think any meaningful information can be gleaned from those setlists except it making absolute sense that he was attempting to distance himself as a solo artist.
I'm so jealous of all you emeffers. Fingers crossed for some reincarnation of Pink Floyd next year. Be it Waters or Gilmour, they're both on the bucket list.

If we get any one of the three: Neil Young, David Gilmour, Tool, I'll be pretty pleased with the headliner situation. All I ask is for one that I'm psyched for.

If 'Roo could get one of your first two I'd be on cloud nine. If Tool returns I'll care only 'cause it might bring back a few of my best buds who love Tool.
Because they don't get book. People were saying he wouldn't headline if he got book. United center just had U2 and has the who and Madonna coming up.
Well the argument is that plenty of artists have played MSG recently and subsequently played Roo and have not been headliners.
David Gilmour is playing four dates in North America, which allows him to play any venue he wants because he'll draw a lot of people to each show. I think he could definitely be a headliner at Bonnaroo, but I could also see him being billed 4th.
I am having a hard time coming up with three acts who would be booked higher (on the same lineup). At the very least he's a Sunday headliner. And where would you put him if he wasn't headlining? Late night what (reasonable)? Preheadliner? Which closer?

As far as I'm concerned he doesn't have to play any Floyd. He is still a top ten all time guitar player in my opinion. I just want to hear that glorious guitar tone. And that says nothing of his great vocal.
I'm honestly surprised that whether or not David Gilmour would headline is even a debate. The answer is yes, he would. Sometimes I think people on here choose to argue positions that they know are wrong just to give themselves something to do.

Yeah probably LN What, which I guess pretty much makes him a headliner, because I definitely don't think he'd be billed anywhere beneath #4
But in terms of artists who would be billed higher, these ones come to min:
Beyonce U2 Foo Fighters Fleetwood Mac Pearl Jam Bruce Springsteen Radiohead Arcade Fire Phish
EDIT: Misread what you were saying, but I think this would be fairly realistic:
Beyoncé - Foo Fighters - Drake/Phish - David Gilmour

I agree he isn't a consensus number one every year, what it am saying is I doubt they could get three acts who would be billed higher on one lineup.

You're probably right, and my thinking has come around a bit on the whole argument. I'd hope that if Roo manages to get him, that he headlines or is LN, just so he has time for a full setlist.

This is the most amazing thing that has ever happened on a message board. Someone listened to someone else, learned, and changed their mind. We did it guys!

He needs to add cities instead. Come on David.
I honestly think he's gonna play Coachella with the way it lines up with those dates

I doubt he'd do a show near LA a month after two big LA shows. The South is the only major region he's not playing, so Roo isn't out of the question. Still incredibly unlikely though.

I would agree, BUT, with him selling out those first shows so quickly and now adding a new date to each stop and Coachella being sold out (I think) I could still see a Gilmour playing Coachella. I'm praying he plays Roo though.
Unrealistically hoping for Beyoncé - Neil Young - David Gilmour (unless Gorillaz get the new album out before roo, in which case Neil Young - Gorillaz - David Gilmour would put me in heaven)
