Are you all ears? Next week, we’ll be sharing some lineup additions and details, as well as revealing the schedule of concerts for #BigEarsKnox 2016. Stay tuned!
Technically, you're right. The two they added would be "some" additions. Really hoping they didn't announce an addition and then turn around and say "Stay Tuned!"
If we get the core schedule (which I'm still confused about) first, then I'm guessing they won't announce any more names. I'm staying vigilant till then though.

^^^Hmmm, could still constitute a "soft" announcement. I think AC's rule is: it's not official until it goes in the email blast. Anyway, I'm just trying to stay realistic.

Totally. I keep thinking Thursday feels light and then I remember that it's probably a half day. I'm only expecting 3 or 4 names and most of those will be smaller, I think.
Film Collaboration at Big Ears 2016 December 2nd, 2015
We’re taking our film component to a new level in an exciting new collaboration with The Public Cinema for Big Ears 2016! Known for their dedication to screening contemporary international and American cinema for Knoxville audiences, they’ll be collaborating with us on curating a lineup of screenings and other cinematic events.
We’ll be revealing more soon, but let this tide you over: together, we’ll be hosting a Big Ears screening of Laurie Anderson’s critically acclaimed new film (and Oscar shortlisted!) Heart of a Dog during the festival, with Laurie discussing the film and participating in a Q&A afterwards. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for even more thrilling surprises, and check out the official trailer for Laurie’s film below!
I made it to zero films last year but I do love this idea.

I saw Bill Morrison's Decasia and SQÜRL's Man Ray score... but I never made it to anything at the Regal Rivera. Normally I'd be all over the films (really great choices), but unless there is a unique twist to it (i.e. live scores, conversations with the director, etc.), live music is going to beat out anything I can get on DVD.
I'm having a harder time thinking about Necks > Circuit Des Yeux > Sunn O))). None conflict but a hike through Knoxville within just minutes probably isn't gonna happen.
welp, the whole worry of the fest starting in the evening on both friday & thursday is true. I'll probably be out in that case thx to skool.
BUT THINK OF THE BBQ TO BE EATEN.
I'm also thinking that Friday might be the "outdoor show" day.
I went to knoxville 4 or 5 times last year, I can get the BBQ another time (though it was dayummm good)
it's just not worth the cost for me if it's 2 half days, not a lot of artists I'm personally interested in, and missing 2 days of school (+ the weekend, especially if I have a project due. which I will I'm sure). if a few of the artists phi has been naming were added I would reconsider. but I need to be more choosey with festivals this next year. THX GRAD SCHOOL.

A couple of really hard decisions on Saturday (Glass & Anderson vs. Faust; Sunn O))) vs. Washington), but overall, I think I've got a solid schedule: lineup.bigearsfestival.com/mensch
With that said, we're a little short on time slots compared to last year, aren't we (with the late starts on Th & Fri)?
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Not so rough. Kamasi is pretty much everywhere the past few months. I caught him with New Edition in Richmond (and that's no joking). Kiasmos is a pretty rare treat, imo. It's not "once in a lifetime" rare but they are up there. I can only think of a handful of NYC gigs they've done.

Yeah between the two I already decided I would pick Kiasmos for sure. But I haven't seen Kamasi yet. Hopefully he'll be at Roo

Some brutal conflicts for me but at least I know my choices. I'm most upset about bedroom community during faust and the sunn O))) during kamasi, but for either I already know I am choosing the first choice.

Thursday: AKA The Standard Night Mamiffer > Wolf Eyes > Zeena Parkins & Tony Buck > Andy Stott
Friday: Xylouris White > Phantom Orchard > Vijay Iyer & Wadada Leo Smith > Outside The Dream Syndicate > (what's left of) YLT & Lambchop > Nicolas Jaar
Saturday: Angel Olsen > Joe Henry & Marc Ribot > Ikue Mori > Anthony Braxton Trio > Laurie Anderson/Philip Glass > The Necks > Sunn O)))> (Try to get into) Kiasmos
Bummed about YLT/Lambchop. Really hoping this ends up being a rough draft and stuff gets shifted around like last year.
If anyone is thinking about skipping Bedroom Community (*COUGH COUGH* ^^^^) I would sincerely consider rethinking your position. I'm reasonably sure it will be the best show this year.

Not skipping it at all. I wouldn't dare. I'm headed to Durham to see them the day before Big Ears starts. I'd probably be more upset if this wasn't happening.

I'd say you're right. Makes me think the new venue might not be outdoors, because we have a city ordinance to stop live music at 10:00PM. I'm curious about the whole thing now. Could be an old church, just not sure.

While Kamasi is definitely playing all over... his live sets are so freakin' brilliant, that even if he was the nightly house band down the street, I'd still consider this a rough conflict. For those that haven't seen his band, check out this keyboard solo: bit.ly/1N6f0lQ (I bit.ly'd it so it would start at the right time: 1 hr 17 mins in...)

My one hope with this schedule is most likely things will be switched around. I have some horrible conflicts on Saturday and am disappointed shows do not start till 5 on Friday.
Based on the current schedule, I am thinking about skipping Thursday and just get day passes for Friday and Saturday.

I really hope the new venue is close to the Standard... otherwise, my Thursday schedule is going to be impossible. Mamiffer (Standard) -> Sun Ra Arkestra (New Venue) -> Wolf Eyes (Standard) -> Molly Nilsson (New Venue) -> Yo La Tengo (New Venue) -> Andy Stott (Standard)
