Overall, the changes seem to be positive ones IMO.
The only negative I have is the Angel Olsen vs. Circuit Des Yeux overlap. I'm crossing fingers that one has a collaborative set somewhere else in the day. Or (gasp) a secret show. Come on, ACE. MAKE. THIS. HAPPEN.

Still not sure if I should fly in on Wed night or Thur day (or leave Sun/Mon)... really depends on the film & extras schedule.
Ultimately, the schedule changes eased up some of my overly optimistic bouncing from venue to venue... but I lost nine - ten shows (Andy Stott, Marc Ribot, Vijay Iyer & Wadada Leo Smith, Yo La Tengo & Lambchop, Steven Schick, Angel Olsen, Mary Halverson, Sunn O))), Klasmos, and maybe the Necks) compared to the five I gained (John Luther Adams' Veils & Vesper , Hieroglyphic Being & Marshall Allen , Lou Reed's Drones, Phantom Orchard , and Faust). A little bummed.
Anyway, here's my latest picks...
Thursday START - John Luther Adams' Veils & Vesper 7:00 PM - Mamiffer 9:00 PM - Sun Ra Arkestra 10:00ish - Wolf Eyes 11:30 PM - Yo La Tengo
Friday 12:00 PM - Tony Conrad 1:30 PM - Chris Abrahams (check this guy out folks... really brilliant pianist). 2:30 PM - Anthony Braxton Tentet 4:00 PM - Zeena Parkins & Tony Buck 5:15 PM - Nief-Norf 7:00 PM - Hieroglyphic Being & Marshall Allen 9:15 PM - Ikue Mori 11:00 PM - Outside the Dream Syndicate (Tony Conrad/Faust) 12:30 AM - Nicolas Jaar
Saturday 12:00 PM - Lou Reed's Drones 1:00 PM - Phantom Orchard 2:00 PM - Maya Beiser 3:30 PM - Philip Glass / Laurie Anderson 6:00 PM - Molly Nilsson 7:00 PM - Anthony Braxton Trio 8:15 PM - The Necks (Maybe... might just keep my spot for Faust) 9:00 PM - Faust 11:00 PM - Circuit Des Yeux 12:15 AM - Kamasi Washington

Saw this comment from Big Ears on FB:
"There is only one show that we hope to present on Sunday, which is a staging of one of John Luther Adams' outdoor pieces like Inuksuit or Sila. If we do this, we plan for it to be early, late morning or, at the latest, early afternoon on Sunday. The plan is for it to take place at a nature preserve only 5 - 10 minutes from downtown, around a quarry, and the goal is for it to be free to the general public as a festival finale. Beyond this, the John Luther Adams installation will continue on Sunday but there will be no additional programming of performances."

Could be Ijams. Don't know how many other quarries there are within 5-10 minutes of downtown.

Last fall, when the first news about this year’s Big Ears festival was announced, there was some speculation that the still-to-be-identified fifth venue on the schedule would be First Christian Church, on Fifth Avenue near Gay Street. The four spaces used last year are still on the schedule—the Bijou and Tennessee theaters, the Standard, and the Square Room—with one more listed as “new venue TBA.” As it turns out, the church sanctuary will indeed be part of the festival, as a space for one of a pair of large-scale sound installations. But it’s not the new performing space, which remains a mystery for at least a little while longer.
The church, which developers David Dewhirst and Mark Heinz bought in 2015, will host Veils and Vesper, an immersive six-hour soundscape created by Big Ears composer in residence John Luther Adams.

You guys! With 8 weeks to go, we need those fabulous brunch plans.
I don't know about brunch plans. abrakapokus is a better person to think of a good spot for such things. I just know that Knoxville now has more beer than it used to. I am also hopefully field testing the new donut place near downtown neat weekend.
