Woof. This may change my schedule up a bit unless I pack my bike this year. That's gonna be a hell of a walk.
Bike is 2000% the way to go. I am so very glad I brought mine last year.
EDIT: Also, who else thinks this Sunday surprise thing might be a way of backpedaling a bit on the move to Thurs-Sat? Perhaps they'll go back to Fri-Sun next year?
Also, I'm really good at being first post on a new page in this thread.
I'll admit it. I was jealous of that bike.
I'm holding out till I see if they do the free bike program this year. Really crossing fingers for that. Looking at my schedule (pre-update), it seems the only time I have to be at the new venue is Angel Olsen (and probably stick around for Joe Henry). A bike would be nice for that Bijou to Standard walk though. Might even be able to shave some time off, too.
I don't mind so much that the festival is Thursday-Saturday as I do announcing a show like that so late. They did say they were gonna do an outdoor show before they "announced" it but I think everyone thought it would fall into the dates initially posted. It almost feels like this is more for the citizens of Knoxville than the patrons of Big Ears (which is awesome, imo). With the absence of the KMA, there needed to be a free option. I'm half expecting the "sanctuary" shows to be free, as well.
Listen up, #BigEarsKnox friends - we've got two extraordinary installations to add to this year's festival. We'll be sharing details tomorrow - stay tuned!
Installations tomorrow. One they named a few days ago, a John Luther Adams piece, and I'm starting to wonder about the other.
Lol @ all this talk of bikes. It's called Uber you old fat bastards. Frequently took Uber from The Standard to Bijou last year.
You kids and your fancy apps. I had no clue how Uber worked till a few years ago.
Installations are up: John Luther Adams Veils and Vesper and Laurie Anderson presenting Lou Reed’s DRONES. Now I gotta figure out how to fit that in my schedule. Drones alone can run for hours and hours.

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Cool! I am gonna check out the changes tomorrow and then decide which day I wanna do.
It should be noted that it won't change that much. Some times and venues will shift but days are still the same. Saturday still has more bang for your buck, imo. It's all day vs half day. Plus you could see me loose my shit and cry and pass out at Sunn. Just sayin'.

We also haven't discussed brunch yet either.
Hmm yeah but Friday has Nico. :/
As the schedule exists now, I would probably go Chris Abrahams>Shabazz Palaces> Yo La Tengo/Lambchop>Nico, if I were to do Friday.
For Saturday: Angel Olsen>not sure for the rest of the afternoon, need to dig into the options more>Faust or Lambchop>The Necks>first bit of Sunn, to watch GL cry etc.>KIASMOS
I'm leaning towards Sat. I think I'll just come up for one day/night...should look into an air bnb for that soon.

Trying to buy Saturday single day pass right now, and two kinda odd things that made me pause and want to check to make sure I'm doing this right:
1) It says $47.50 + fees, rather than the advertised $49.50; trivial difference, yeah, but a little strange. 2) Ticket shows up as, Sec GA9 Row --, Seats --
I want to make sure I'm buying the day pass, not the TN Theater ticket. But it does say Single Day Admission under "ticket type..."

An "Evening w/ Glass & Anderson" is now an "Afternoon w/ Glass & Anderson." Other than that, my schedule seems relatively intact (other than the Sunn O))), Washington, Kiasmos cluster).

So, now I'm more confused than ever on when I should arrive. It kinda looks like they might put the film festival during the day on Thursday, in which case, I should probably arrive Wednesday. Glad I haven't booked the flight yet (hoping the hotel will be flexible!)
It's live. I was wrong about the not changing days bit.
Saturday night is still a shit show. Gladly, I have another option to see Kamasi at Bonnaroo even though I doubt the show will be as good.
Same.
I wanted to wait to see the schedule changes before committing to which day, but yeah, I'm still partial to Saturday - even though I'm a bit annoyed they actually made the late night conflicts WORSE, not better; wasn't Sunn O))) on for a solid 30 or 45 minutes before Kiasmos, prior to the changes? I was hoping to catch the first little bit, but that probably wasn't very feasible to begin with.

Will everyone else be doing Sunn O))) though?
In a fantasy world, I see myself catching some of Sunn O))). Realistically, I'll probably just stay at The Standard after Circuit Des Yeux.

So the Bedroom Community show is now part of the Tennessee Theater programs? That means I'll have to buy yet another ticket for Sunday's . . .
Yeah. That shift was some shit. Guess I'm not seeing them unfortunately.
I'm fine with the other changes - it means I'll get to see some artists I wouldn't have otherwise - but the Bedroom Community show is one of the major sets of the festival for me. Just kind of frustrating that I'll have to pay even more to see it. On the bright side, I guess that also means I'll get to see Laurie Anderson & Phillip Glass.

Have they said anywhere that it's an extra ticket? I would think since it was moved they won't require one.
E: Rejoice gjpeace - From Facebook: Facebook User: "With Bedroom Community moved to the Tennessee, does that mean one has to have the Evening Performance ticket to see them now?" Big Ears Festival: "Not for that one."
They also pointed out Hauschka had a conflict this year. So glad to know he's on their radar.
