I have to admit, I know much less about this year's artists (so far) than I have about past years'. Rather than follow Phi's template, would anyone want to start up a (possibly collaborative) Big Ears 2016 Spotify playlist? I'll be there for Big Ears no matter what, since my family lives there and March 31 is my dad's birthday, but it would be nice to have some albums all thrown together on Spotify for me to start wading through!

I do one for my wife. I'd be happy to make it open so anyone can contribute.
Phyre Fest, Anthony Braxton is a pair of midget sumo wrestlers. Their stage show entails a tickle fight in marmalade choreographed to 80's power ballads, followed by free beer for all in attendance. You won't want to miss it. See you there.
You could also sell him based on that he's Tyondai Braxton's dad.
True, although other than hair they don't have much in common aesthetically.

I'm down! I usually make one for stuff like this anyways.

If you do this can I get a link. About 98% sure that next year will be my first Big Ears.

So I think what they're doing is releasing the more traditional "BIG EARs" artists for us to nerd out over and then they're going to release the more well known names on the release date to garner more mainstream attention. Brilliant move, really.
Secret venue thought: I'm wondering if the new venue might possibly be one of the train station depots on gay street, kind of across from the standard. I believe they are event spaces, and they just finished renovating one of them... That or possibly the emporium center on gay street which is where KSO is...

This guy makes a fine point. I didn't even think of those. Didn't they have a beer festival in one of those terminals?

Sort of, it was all outside. I was suspecting patrick sullys for a while but I havent seen any activity near it.

I don't know about all that. Once you get past all the Kronos performances last year, the top acts listed are Terry Riley, Tune-Yards, Tyondai Braxton, Jamie xx and Rhiannon Giddens. Not exactly what I would refer to as stuff that would garner tons of mainstream attention given that the initial lineup drop (and festival for that matter) were months before Jamie xx's album came out.
Also, I found this on the soundcloud. It's a Nicolas Jaar set from Decibel last month. So. Hyped. https%3A//soundcloud.com/camedwardo/nicolas-jaar-decibel-festival-2015-live
