Nothing about this movie title makes me want to watch it Revenge of the Nerds NO Ghost Dog NO ------------------
------------------ Election NO The Burbs NO Shaun of the Dead YES Hot Fuzz YES Woodstock Which one? The orginal documentary or the actual movie with Emile Hirsch and Demitri Martin? I've actually seen both, but I'm jw which one you're referring to. Muriel's Wedding I think so, but it was a looooong time ago. I was real little and I think I could be making that up actually... My mom had the movie on VHS and I remember always seeing the cover of it, not sure if I ever actually watched it. Four Weddings and a Funeral YES to the remake, NO to the orginal. You already asked this one... Midnight Cowboy NO Man on Wire YES Dirty Rotten Scoundrels NO
Shaun of the Dead Hot Fuzz (another one of those that was just on in the background... but with this one, that counts) Scott Pilgrim vs The World Boogie Nights The Social Network Her Being John Malkovich (weird ass movie, I enjoyed it, but it was weird) Jackass: The Movie Catch Me If You Can (One of my favorites. Possibly my favorite, def top 3, Leo movie) Hook Jaws Jurassic mother fuckin' Park Psycho The Shining Monty Python and the Holy Grail All the Bourne movies (I haven't seen allll of them, but I did see the first one) Cabin In The Woods Nightmare Before Christmas The Matrix Back to the Future
The World's End (not sure which movie this is... the only one I'm picturing is Pirates of the Carribbean, which I'm assuming is NOT what you mean. Even if you did it'd still be a no.) Magnolia (again, no idea what movie this is) Punch-Drunk Love (started watching this once on family vacation. I was like 14 or so and was bored. I should revisit as an adult) There Will Be Blood (Is this the oil field one? Idk for sure if I've seen it)
Se7en (Again, is this the Josh Hartnett one?) The Game (Not a clue)
Adaptation Saving Private Ryan (I feel like I have, but I can't remember it really, so I'm going to say no.) Schindler's List Close Encounters Rear Window
The Royal Tenenbaums Bottle Rocket
Casablanca One Flew Over The Cuckoo's nest Whiplash Lord of the Rings Memento (As I said before, I've seen this multiple times but can't really remember it, so I'm going with no due to the nature of the movie) Amelie Rosemary's Baby The Thing (I don't do any time of horror movie. So its like a realllllly low chance I've actually seen anything in this genre) All the Bourne movies (As I said, I've only seen the first one) All the Bond movies (I've never seen a single Bond movie... that's a lie. I think I saw one of the ones with Daniel Craig. I don't remember) Point Break The Karate Kid Slacker (you should watch this because it's about Austin) (I think I have seen this actually. But I don't know... Is this the one where Vince Vaughn lives on a dude ranch?) Silence of the Lambs In Bruges
Die Hard (Nope, never seen any of the Die Hards) Die Hard 2 Die Hard With A Vengeance
First of all sorry for the super long post. I got super carried away. I actually had to limit myself to "drama" stuff and not include movies that are strictly comedy.
Aaaany way, The World's End is the final movie in the Cornetto Trilogy. It's three movies loosely connected by common elements, all directed by Edgar Wright and all starring Simon Pegg and Niick Frost. They are all excellent.
You are correct about There Will Be Blood being the oil field one. That, Punch-Drunk Love, and Magnolia are all directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. All are absolutely worth your time. That's the same guy that directed Boogie Nights and The Master if that means anything to you. I absolutely love the guy he's definitely not for everyone. You should probably star on Punch-Drunk Love out of these three.
Se7en is a classic and you should watch it immediately. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman chase a serial killer who kills people according to the seven deadly sins. You'll probably get a few more cultural references once you watch this one. The Game is just a fun ride so you should watch it.
The Thing is fucking amazing. I say that as a person that generally does not like horror but holy shit that movie is amazing. It's perfect. Just watch it. It's so worth it. Really... please watch The Thing.
I think the Vince Vaughn on a dude ranch movie is Into The Wild? Also a very good movie but not the one I am talking about.
Anyway Slacker is an awesome movie. You should watch like 30 minutes of it. It's truly unique and fascinating but you won't feel bad about turning it off. It's worth your time. And really it's basically Richard Linklater's love letter to Austin.
And I didn't mean your list was long in a bad way, just that I was going to format it differently due to length. Keep the long lists a-comin. At this point this thread is just a really fun way for me to kill time and disappoint everyone in the process.
Haven't read through the thread, but I'm going to mention some classics to me that not too terribly many I know have seen:
*Nashville *Persona *Repulsion Cul De Sac Perfect Blue *La Dolce Vita *Five Easy Pieces *The Last Detail The Ruling Class Y Tu Mama Tambien *Badlands The Game Faces Fanny and Alexander Felini's Satyricon *Paths of Glory The Passenger *The Apartment Scenes From A Marriage *Woman Under The Influence
Stopping with 20 to keep it somewhat reasonable, but these are all at least ****1/2 out of 5 movies to me (most would be in my top 100 favorite films list), with the most "important" titles noted with an asterisk.

* The Sandlot was released as The Sandlot Kids in Australia, and that's where I grew up watching it, so I always forget it's really just The Sandlot.
* Yes, I meant the Woodstock documentary / concert film. Good to see you've got this one covered.
* I know you're not a fan of 'maters and violence, but trust me - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is hilarious and utterly ridic.
* Basquiat was an artist from New York who got big in the '80s doing these surrealistic, crude-yet-beautiful paintings, as well as graffiti poetry. Died at the ripe old age of 27 from a heroin overdose. Co-stars David Bowie as Andy Warhol, and Gary Oldman (Sirius Black!) as Julian Schnabel, who directed the film and worked closely with Basquiat.
* Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a cult comedy about a transexual rockstar in Germany... which I may have watched the first time I ever ate some shroomies. It's that perfect blend of weird and hilarious that suited my mindset oh so well.
* Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is brilliant. We might just need a Steve Martin double feature night of this and The Jerk.
* With the utmost respect to Easy Rider, you don't really need to pay full attention. It's a movie about hippies doing hippie things, made by hippies, at the height of the hippie era. Featuring a phenomenal soundtrack of hippie music. You might like it... ya hippie.
* The Big Chill is awesome. It's kind of dated, but the central story and characters and themes explored hold up. Plus, Jeff Goldblum.
* Koyanisqaatsi has no plot, per se - it's a slice of life from around the world. There's no dialogue or narration, just visually stunning shots and a gorgeous Philip Glass score.
* Priscilla Queen of the Desert is just... fabulous. That's all you need to know. A lot of the movie was shot at one of my local haunts, the Imperial Hotel. The Impy (or at least before its recent re-selling) hosts Priscilla-themed drag shows in homage.
* DiG! is a music doco about the rivalry between The Dandy Warhols and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The movie shows the Dandies as the less impressive / innovative of the two bands IMO - but BJM had a more antagonistic / self-destructive / semi-sociopathic lead singer, and they were less willing to play along with whatever the record company wanted, so they never got quite as famous.
* Election is a dark and hilarious satire about students running for class president, and one teacher who is entirely too invested in the outcome.
* Chasing Amy is one of my favourites of Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse series. It has more of a dramatic tone than his other movies, albeit with ample off-colour jokes about finger cuffs.
* A Fish Called Wanda is so hilarious that a guy literally died of laughter while watching it.
* Harold and Maude is very dated, and kind of hokey in parts, but I love it. Equal parts hilarious, dark, and touching.
* Lost in Translation is a beautiful film about feeling alone in the middle of the world's biggest city. Tied with Ghostbusters as my favourite Bill Murray movie, and you know what praise that is from a guy who wanted to grow up to become a Ghostbuster. This is going on the list.
Monie have you watched any of the movies since you started this thread? Or are we all just wasting our time creating a list of movies you'll never watch?

This list made me feel reeeeeeal bad... I haven't seen a single movie on named and I haven't even heard of most of them....
I'm intrigued. Figure out how we (I) can watch this. If you can find it for me before you're here, I may watch this on my own. Also, now that it has been pointed out to me that Basquiat isn't a what but a who, I think I have heard of him before... This all sounds vaguely familiar...
Also, I know who Gary Oldman is outside of the world of Harry Potter.... smart ass.
* Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is brilliant. We might just need a Steve Martin double feature night of this and The Jerk. You've said this about several Steve Martin movies I think... At this point it isn't really a "double feature night", it's like a Steve Martin all-night marathon... (Don't ask me what the other ones on the list were, I don't remember. It may have been another actor actually? Idr..)
* With the utmost respect to Easy Rider, you don't really need to pay full attention. It's a movie about hippies doing hippie things, made by hippies, at the height of the hippie era. Featuring a phenomenal soundtrack of hippie music. You might like it... ya hippie. Who ya callin a hippie, hippie. Please, you calling a hippie movie a hippie movie must mean it's really fucking hippish . And yea, I'm almost positive I've seen this. We watched this and Billy Jack in my high school thematics class. That teacher also had a mural of Starry Night on her wall.... yea, she's wasn't a hippie at all.
* Chasing Amy is one of my favourites of Kevin Smith's View Askewniverse series. It has more of a dramatic tone than his other movies, albeit with ample off-colour jokes about finger cuffs. I'll give it a shot. But there is someone in this movie who I can't stand. I forget who it is, it's either Renee Zelwegger or Sarah Silverman. But I'm pretty sure that's why I've never watched it.

I've seen the vast majority of those and they're amazing. We arent all film heathens.
Monie have you watched any of the movies since you started this thread? Or are we all just wasting our time creating a list of movies you'll never watch?
Not since the thread has been started, no. But I will be watching some of them. Particularly ones that have been named multiple times. There is literally an actual list being kept by Cap'n Mac that we are going to remedy in December. Until then I'm going to pick and choose movies there and there when I have enough time to kill that I can actually sit down and watch a movie.
Don't you worry Chico, this effort is not in vain.

He's very famous in his own right so you're probably familiar with his work even if you don't know it. He's also been very influential on a ton of hip hop artists so you've probably heard his name referenced without realizing it.

As soon as I saw that in the link, I knew that I knew who it was. I recognized his whole name rather than just his last name. Googled him and it was exactly who I was picturing. And I knew there was a movie about it him, and I remember thinking that I wanted to see it when I heard about it... so thanks for the info that it's on Netflix. People will be happy to know that I will be watching my first movie suggestion from this thread tonight...

GOOD WORK GUYS!
Basquiat or something else?
Basquiat. It is one that I've been wanting to see for a while, I just forgot the name and had no idea it was on Netflix. I don't work tonight, so as soon as I finish my project and get it submitted I'm going to relax and watch this.

Awesome! Enjoy!
I actually haven't seen that one but it's been on my list for a long time. I'll have to catch up.

You did not just say you can't stand Sarah Silverman. She's like my spirit animal, but with bonus points for being from New Hampshire. Is this just payback for me saying Jennifer Lawrence sucks? Also, neither she nor Renee Zellweger are in Chasing Amy - you are probably confusing Renee Zellweger with Joey Lauren Adams, who looks vaguely similar but is actually funny.
Hell, even I need an update of what's on the list. There were about 15-20 movies on the list before you started this thread - it's gotta be at least 50+ by now. I'm fully aware this may take years to accomplish.
