alawre is going from San Francisco to Portland this week for fall break. If anyone has anything on that route that's essential, let me know. They have some plans but are up for changing if the right opportunity presents itself.

Is there some structure of an itinerary already?
Nothing terribly structured. She didn't want to be as tied down for this one since the goal is more to unwind. They rented a camper van, so their lodging options are a little more flexible. They can do hotels or campsites.
Also, the very early covid Disney trip is finally happening this week if nothing goes wrong between now and then. Pray for me. 😄
Yay! Do your best to get into ROTR. GOAT Disney attraction.
I've covered with the children that the plan is to get to every park asap on its day and immediately queue up for whatever the primo ride for that park is. For Hollywood Studios, it's RotR without a doubt.

Do you still need to get a boarding group for ROTR? Back in April I had to get up early the day we went to HS and use the Disney app to get a boarding group. It was easy, was able to do it from the hotel. Things might've changed though.

I believe I read they planned to end the virtual queue on October 1st. It was a great comment read as many people were cheering then more serious Disney people were then calling them idiots bc that meant they actually had to stand in the actual line the entire time.

Awesome, sounds like you are going at a great time! Y'all will have a blast.

i've flown into LGA and JFK but never EWR. might for an upcoming trip. googling around people seem to prefer JFK or LGA but travel from EWR to Manhattan looks super easy and cheap via the train. what am i missing that makes EWR suck?

I've flown out of there internationally the last four times I've gone to Europe. For customs, it's pretty brutal on return - always at least an hour waiting. The airport is clean, the dining options aren't great...but the train into Manhattan is arguably easier than getting to Manhattan from JFK/LGA.

I will only fly into Newark simply due to the train being so easy to get into the city, it's worth it.

Yeah the train seems easy, and the cheapest way to get from any airport to Manhattan. And I'm staying in midtown so just a short walk from Penn station.
Plus I'd get to walk out of Penn station with my luggage and look up at the buildings, my eyes full of Alabama country boy wonder.

Penn station is the one under MSG, right? That place was sick when I got the exact experience you're talking about, right down to the Alabama country boy

Yup! I've actually never been inside Penn station, I've just seen it across the street when I've been at MSG.

Agreed on RotR. Total top tier amusement park ride. The new ratatouille ride is essentially a lot of the same tech with a more kid centered theming.

Newark is the way to go, imo. It’s easier to get in the city. JFK is my backup but I haven’t flown in there in years. Newark sucks because it’s Newark (seriously no offense to anyone, it’s just on my list). The past several years Amtrak has been cheaper by $100 to $200 per passenger with a 5 hour ride and a dining car. Plus it drops you off literally across the street from Penn. I doubt this is true from Mobile but worth mentioning to anyone in the mid-Atlantic.
I saw a report the other day that talked about the TSA only being 60% ready for the vaccination mandate that’s hitting a few days before Thanksgiving. Hoping anyone that flies doesn’t have to deal with a bunch a bullshit with that.

awesome, i'm flying the Sat-Wed before thanksgiving. small airport flying out shouldn't be a problem, but flying back out of phoenix so it will probably suck.

The lady and I are going to Seattle next month! First time to the Pacific Northwest and we're going to visit to see if we like it enough to live there. Love the outdoors, food, and music. Any recommendations on what to check out when we're there? Also does anyone live in the area and want to share their opinion on living there?
My girlfriend and I are headed to Corpus Christi, TX for a wedding this weekend. We get in around 4pm Friday and leave around 12pm Sunday, so the opportunities are limited, but any recommendations would be great!

Anyone have experience / tips / feedback for doing big trips with a ~1 year old baby?
I had tickets for Primavera Barcelona and Porto 2020...fast forward two years, I still have those tickets but I also have a two month old baby
My wife and I are discussing still making the trip to Porto in June, when my daughter will be about 10 months. We're also considering brining along my mom for some child care support (and so we can do some of Primavera Porto). Does anyone have experience flying & vacationing with a little baby? Would love to know if you found it to be overwhelming, fun, stressful, etc... We'd like travel to be a pretty regular routine, but if people have found big trips to be more work than fun it would be good to know.
I have limited experience traveling with an infant. I can tell you that the hotel stay was the most stressful, not wanting to be that room with a crying baby. That said, both of my kids did relatively fine staying in hotels.
I think that if you have the means then you should do it. The more they travel, the better they'll be at it. More power to you if you can bring childcare. The more you can outnumber the child the easier it will be.
A long flight with a 10 month old can be stressful. They're at that age where you'll need to keep them entertained. Much easier when younger and they just nurse and sleep on the flight. Try to book a red-eye to Europe if you can!
We are moving to San Francisco and looking for neighborhood recommendations. We'd like to stay in the city at least for our first year, so we've been thinking of Lower Haight, Duboce Triangle, Cole Valley and Inner Sunset as options. Open to other areas as well!

I've lived here for about 4 years now, how long are you going to be in town and what do you already have planned?

Flying today, gonna stay in Tacoma tonight because we're interested in living there for affordability's sake. Then in Seattle Fri-Sun. Only thing we've really got planned is seeing University of Washington because its a possible grad school destination. We were considering MoPop museum. Mostly just want to get a good feel for the city. I'm sure we'll go out drinking at least one night, but days are pretty open

If you're just looking to get a feel for the city I'd recommend simply going to Ballard or Capitol Hill and going for a walk, checking out the myriad breweries in Fremont, catch Dry Cleaning at the Neptune tomorrow night (!!), it's going to be pretty dreary this weekend (read: Seattle from October-April), but taking a ride on the ferry to Bainbridge and back is a pretty lovely way to get a perspective and beautiful view of the city, grab a beer and the head back into town. My favorite thing about Seattle is the proximity to the water, so we live in Lower Queen Anne (now weirdly rebranded as Uptown), so if you find yourself near there this evening feel free to hit me up for a beer at the Queen Anne Beer Hall! If you're just here briefly, I'd avoid the downtown and Pioneer Square areas. Do206 and The Stranger are great resources for things to do as well. Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford and the Capitol Hill areas are probably my favorite places to roam.
Feel free to DM me if you wanna chat more as time goes on about the city, etc if you want! Have fun!
