Okay. Two trips on the vooks for next year that is live some recs on. I'll post the separate for clarity.
1) Universal in Orlando in February. This is part of a trip with my then 5 and 9 year olds to Tampa to visit my dad so we're just doing one night midweek.
Planning on staying at one of their resorts for the early admission.
The priority is getting the two Harry Potter sections in. Anything else is a bonus.
I know we'll need to get two days' worth of passes and passes for both of the parks. Not going to have time for the water park.
Anybody have any recs or hacks for Universal?
Staying at a Universal hotel is worth it for early admission. If you can afford it, staying at one of their higher end hotels gets you free priority passes. And the more expensive universal hotels are less expensive than the cheaper Disney hotels.
Be there before gates open at Harry Potter. Ride the big rides first. Like Hagrid’s rollercoaster. So fun Then take your time at the shops. Eating at one of the restaurants, the Leaky Cauldron or Three Broomsticks is a must. And then there is butterbeer. Yummm 😋
Try the hot and the frozen butter beers and switch off with the kids so you can ride all the rides they are too small for. Universal has some amazing restaurants.

In about 5 years when your kids are older, the alternative is get a bomb ass air B and B in Osceola County maybe 10-15 minutes drive to the parks. I heard Universal went from the skip the lines upgrade to the Uber skip the lines. But we were lapping people 3-4 times on the best rides. You can usually get a 3-4 BR resort house with a pool for 350 a night. 3 days is usually enough if your day passes are for both Islands of Adventure and Universal. Even if you did a day at Volcano Bay, as long as you get both parks and upgrade line issues it’s worth all the upcharges. The last thing I want to see is a sign telling me my wait time from here is approximately 75 minutes.

Like all Millenials, we are taking a vacation to Asheville in late October. Any favorite places? Hikes? Hotel over Air BnB? And before you offer: we drink beer but are not interested in centering our vacation around breweries.
In the beginning stages of planning a vacation to Seattle with my partner. we have flight vouchers i won from a sweepstakes so its the perfect opportinity to use them. My main questions are: Where is the best area to stay? What are the can’t miss bars/clubs/restaurants(specifically vegan/vegetarian), and would it be best to stick to seattle or split the trip as a half portland/seattle or half vancouver/seattle trip? we’ll only be there for a week

Are either of you vegetarian or vegan? I’ll compile a list when I get home but my two favorite places to eat are Curate for tapas and Yum Sushi Burrito & Poké. One is an award winning restaurant, the other is a small chain but really good. Double D’s Coffee is decent but a great setting and better location.
Are you going for music? There’s a few venues to keep your eyes on.

If I were moving I’d say: Portland Seattle Vancouver
Visiting would be: Seattle Vancouver Portland
Vancouver is a much more travel friendly city than PDX, imo. More to see and do in a quick trip with no specific reason to go. Portland is a beautiful city but it’s harder to get around and most of the good stuff isn’t in downtown.

We eat anything on vacation. Music would be awesome if it’s fun local things - no need to see a bigger band that’s on tour

I went there during the pandemic and thought of you! The upstairs was closed though. I am sure it's open now.
man1cpixiedreamgirl If you like pinball/video games, there's a pinball museum that's pretty cool. It's mostly pinball, but don't make the same mistake I did and not realize that there are back rooms with other arcade games as well as some game consoles. Pay to enter, play as long as you want. And there's a bar.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I can tell you that I'm planning on staying at the Moxy when I stay there. I really enjoyed the brand when I stayed in Chicago and can't wait to check it out in a different market.
Is there a website (or app) that anyone recommends to plan out travel plans? Specifically, what I'm trying to do is lay out a bunch of restaurants and attractions on a city map so that I can plan a route.
I'm sure that there's an obvious answer here but it's not coming to me and I'm not sure how to Google that.

i just create lists and labels in google maps. music venues, bars, restaurants, tourist attractions etc. if a city is particularly dense you can hide them, create day by day lists. geographically oriented so i've always planned by maps and maybe put some notes in a doc

Every time I travel somewhere, I like to make a Google map of potential things to Do, Eat, and See. We were planning a trip to Seattle in 2020 that never happened due to the pandemic. So, I don’t have any advice from personal experience, but this is the map I created for that trip. I have to plan trips for a family of four, so I’m sure there’s a bunch of uninteresting things on there, and it’s also dated about 2-3 years, but it could help you find some things.
Personally, if I were planning this trip again, I’d make sure to hit up some of Washington State’s National Parks. When we canceled this Seattle trip, we booked a road trip from Chicago, to Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, and Badlands NP. It was incredibly therapeutic, and since then we’ve been on a NP kick. Going to Yosemite and Great Smoky Mountains in two weeks.

Thanks. I ended up finding what I want in wanderlog. It lets me plan day by day itineraries and plan for transit times and stuff. I got my trip to date all added last night.
I am traveling to D.C. for the first time ever next month. Just got tickets to see Arcade Fire and Beck at the Anthem. Is this a decent venue?
How is transportation in D.C.?
not to be that guy but uhh have you seen the accusations?
I have… I am not a judge and jury on Win, though. The females were 18+ and he claims everything he did was consensual. It’s under investigation so, hopefully, the truth will come out soon. I don’t believe we should drag people in the mud without knowing the truth. I would need more details on what he did… if it does come out that he was grooming someone or forcing himself on someone, I will not be going, though.

...how does one prove these things though? Beyond what's already been said and reported by journalists?

I think it falls on the accuser most of the time. If rape is not involved, there would have to be text messages or emails or something that show it. Otherwise, just like Ricky Martin’s situation… anyone can smear anyone’s name. Win said he did cheat but he never did anything that was not reciprocated. Unfortunately, that falls on the accuser to prove he did something.
not to turn this into the woke thread but final thought is: if multiple people are all accusing him of similar things, his own brother quit the band, and liked Feists post regarding her dropping from the tour, this kind of shows pretty overwhelming evidence that the accusations are at least partly true. thats your perogative whether you decide to believe them but its not really as he said she said as the Ricky Martin scenario.

I don’t see that as proof. His brother might not believe him and Feist didn’t want her nor her band’s image tarnished (which I can definitely see)… I am still not going to drag him over the coals on hearsay. He may have made some bad choices but we don’t know the severity of those choices. The woke mob sometimes get it wrong.
I do hope to have some D.C. folks to offer any fun “outside the box” destinations or food places, though! 😎

They had all of that in the article.
I didn’t see anything that would warrant cancelling Win in the article except the one person who accused him of touching them inappropriately. That couldn’t be proven, unfortunately.

i think "overwhelming evidence" is a reach. a lot of smoke, for sure, and where there is smoke there is often fire, but there isn't overwhelming evidence that a sexual assault occurred, just an accusation from one of the people involved that sexual assault occurred at two separate times. the others spoke out because they thought the relationship they had with win was inappropriate due to age differences and power dynamics (correct me if i'm getting my facts wrong, this is per the pitchfork article).
what we do know for sure is Winn had sex with young fans, which is contrary to his public image as a good guy anti-rock star with a healthy marriage in a family band. people can do with that what they will i think based on their own personal value systems.
tentatively starting honeymoon planning for sept 2022. all we have booked are flights to athens. hoping for hotel reccs in santorini/greek isles if anyone has them. also, would you recommend island hopping or picking one and staying there?
bumping this because we got back yesterday, here's what we ended up doing.
1 night athens - general sightseeing 3 nights santorini - relaxing by the pool, hikes, and a wine tour 4 nights crete - all inclusive in analipsi beach called stella island, sipped on cocktails by the pool and ate at all the restaurants the place had to offer 2 nights dubrovnik - walled city tour, game of thrones walking tour, cable car ride to the top of the mountain, and ate and drank a ton - this was the highlight of the trip, we were blown away by dubrovnik 2 nights split - 5 islands boat tour, included blue cave, snorkeling, visit to hvar and another smaller island, then ate/drank/explored 3 nights london - lizzy passed while we were in crete, so by the time we got to london, the whole westminster area was a shit show, roads closed, lines for everything, and tons of police everywhere. we saw buckingham palace and big ben and then avoided the area for the rest of the trip. we knocked off most of the major touristy things, but essentially walked all across the city
happy to provide any more details on hotels and travel if anyones thinking of heading to this part of the world, we had an absolute blast
Flying back to Illinois from California today. My wife and I had permits to hike Half Dome yesterday, and the experience was one of a lifetime. Were were In California for 3 days. We explored Yosemite on Saturday and completed the Yosemite Point hike. Sunday we spent the day at Sequoia National Park. The trees are stunning and there are a number of short hikes that you could take to see a lot of the park. If anyone is interested in any information in regards to the Half Dome hike like getting permits, where to meet up with the trailhead, parking, etc. I’d be happy to share.
Flying home with the Mrs. today. Tomorrow we load up the car and take the boys down to Gatlinburg to hike in the Smokies. Going to hit Mammoth Cave on the way down as well.
