Flying back to Illinois from California today. My wife and I had permits to hike Half Dome yesterday, and the experience was one of a lifetime. Were were In California for 3 days. We explored Yosemite on Saturday and completed the Yosemite Point hike. Sunday we spent the day at Sequoia National Park. The trees are stunning and there are a number of short hikes that you could take to see a lot of the park. If anyone is interested in any information in regards to the Half Dome hike like getting permits, where to meet up with the trailhead, parking, etc. I’d be happy to share.
Flying home with the Mrs. today. Tomorrow we load up the car and take the boys down to Gatlinburg to hike in the Smokies. Going to hit Mammoth Cave on the way down as well.
I'm headed to the smokies this weekend! Doing 18 miles or so on the southwest end of the park near "Top of the World", TN
Cleveland recs? No HoF. For my partner…. He likes beer and cool places and record stores. Not a foodie, think more hole in the wall places to eat.
Coventry Rd between Mayfield & Euclid - lots of weird little shops and food places. It's also close to University Circle which boasts the Cleveland museums of Art and Natural History. Both really great spots. Art museum is almost a must see, even just to walk through the space, and it's free I believe.

Nice. I have no specific hikes planned, just a bunch of potentials. Figure we’ll wing it when we get there.
3post1jack1 (and others) where do you usually stay in Vegas? Checking out various options for next year and honestly the Comsopolitan sounds pretty attractive since I'm thinking about balling out a little bit but open to other ideas.

You got it. Cosmopolitan with fountain view balcony is the move. Great location, great room.

Their best buffet is expensive but the best buffet I ever had in my times I’ve been to Vegas - go starving

2 separate questions.
1. Has anyone ever been to Israel/Palestine? I've decided to go last minute. My grandfather lives there and I would rather go see him quickly than wait a long time. He lives in the North in Safed, but I will also do some travelling on my own.
2. Any recommendations for international phone service? I am considering an e-sim. I have a Pixel on AT&T

Since you have a pixel I've heard Google Fi is pretty great for international phone service. But it's been a while since I've looked into it. I have fi for several years but haven't travelled internationally with it.

Seconding fi, I've been to a half dozen countries in Europe with it and it's been flawless.

My wife and I are heading to Portland and the Oregon coast before heading to Seattle/Whidbey Island for Christmas with family. Where should we stay the 2 nights or so we will be in Portland? I was thinking of staying near Powell's but I don't know if that's a good place to look. Any suggestions? Also looking for coffee, food, beer recs, and anything else we should do to pass the time in the city before heading to the coast. Thanks!

I'm planning on staying at the Moxy when I go to Portland next summer. It's centrally located and a few blocks from Powell's.
You can look a ways back and get a bunch of Portland recommendations from when I inquired a few months ago. I'll PM you what I've found via the many, many, many vlogs I've watched in the past several months.

I did not spend much time in Portland but did the coast drive once. Cannon Beach obviously is iconic, and I assume you are going there. We drove up through Astoria and had lunch at Buoy Beer Company which had good beer and food. Ambiance was 10/10, you can watch seals under their glass floor and see massive cargo ships sail by.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I just finished 3 weeks in Israel/Palestine. Trip tracker link here if anyone is interested: Polarsteps Tracker
Thanks for sharing! I've never heard of that site/app before. It's cool.
My mom used it when she went to France. It was fun being able to see what she was up to along the way without her having to send photos to everybody separately.

Thinking of maybe spending the Wednesday before Coachella in LA. Any recommendations? Kind of thought about going to LACMA but read it’s closed on Wednesdays.

I think if you have 1 day the Getty museum (the main one, not the Villa) is the best tourist spot. Even if you don’t care about the art/architecture it has some great views of the city, it’s generally easy to get in and out of, and it’s free.

The new Academy Award museum is supposed to be amazing. My friends who’ve gone say it’s well worth the time
Petersen Automotive museum is world class and right across the street from academy museum if you think you’d be at all interested in something like that.
Anyone taken High Speed Rail in Spain? Looking to book and going through options and I don’t know who to choose.
It's been a minute but I have. The renfe website is the best place to start. Where are you trying to go? What options are you seeing?
I’m doing Barcelona to Madrid. It’s a quick hop.
Renfe was always my go-to but they introduced a budget high speed AVLO to take on OUIGO who opened up shop. I keep going back and forth as it’s literally less than 3 hours.
E: I went on and booked OUIGO. For 30€ I got a top seat on a double decker next to the bar. Lord help the fine folk of Madrid when I arrive.
anyone have recommendations for the best trails in Joshua tree? i’ll have basically a day and a half to explore it before coachella. I’ll have a rental car and sufficient gear so i’d like to do a few moderate ones. Only one i know i’m doing for sure is the fortynine palms oasis

Question that I’m hoping hits the radar of some of our NOLA locals. Visiting your beautiful city the week after next. We’ll be staying in the Bywater right off of St. Claude. I am a member of a national health and fitness chain and they have a gym about 3/4 of a mile from where we are staying. I’m planning on walking to the gym from where we are in the mornings, and I usually go very early (2, 3 AM). Is the area I’m staying safe enough to walk to the gym at 2:30 AM, or should I just take the car?
