Tool JUST announced a New Orleans show at the Smoothie King Center on January 31.
That's really awesome! Read this on the Tool Reddit page, so not exactly sure how accurate it is. But given the difficulties everyone has had, I think it would be worth a shot.
"Allow me to share some tips that will help you in acquiring concert tickets.
Let's begin by understanding how tickets are distributed. An event is hosted by a promoter who receive blocks of tickets, these are then sold through a distributor (i.e. Ticketmaster) who typically offers bulk sale of tickets through a broker (this may be a reselling agency). You can see how there are many areas in this mechanism that can make it difficult for you to acquire tickets. For example, the promoter may withhold seats, the broker may buy up all the good stuff etc. Time and time again, you end up being the sucker who tries to buy online and you realize that even though you hit F5 right as the seats went on sale, you didn't get anything. I assume the resellers have sophisticated systems to buy up all the online stock as soon as they go on sale.
Allow me to share a trick that works almost every time. The distributors typically allow for certain blocks of seats to be sold only at brick and mortar locations. These are not able to be purchased online until sufficient time has passed after the initial offering. You can find these locations by searching "Ticketmaster outlet" or something similar. In my area, most Fiesta food marts offer a service for purchasing tickets through Ticketmaster at their brick and mortar location. We also have shows that go through "LiveNation", these are all sold through Randall's food stores. Given this information, here is how you the singular rabid fanatic can get the best odds at purchasing the best seats at face value.
Find a brick an mortar location that offers sales through the show's distributor (the more low traffic and less populated the area the better) Become friends with the people at the counter and let them know when the tickets go on sale and what exactly you are looking for. This way they can queue it up on their internal system. (At Randall's I am often given the opportunity to operate and refresh the machine myself) BUY IN PAIRS, I can't stress this enough, but when blocks of tickets are released, they are often in pairs, if you attempt to buy over that limit you will be denied. Bring multiple credit cards if you need multiple tickets as some places will limit the purchases on cards (this is not the case with Ticketmaster at this time). Have a seat map handy so you know exactly what to look for It doesn't hurt to have the ticket sale site queued up on your phone (When purchasing tickets for Tool in San Antonio, I had it refreshed on my phone right when they went on sale and was given nothing, yet I was purchasing pairs to my hearts content up until 8 minutes after tickets were on sale at the brick and mortar Fiesta Mart)
tl;dr If looking for good seats at face value, do research, know where your desired seats are, and buy from brick and mortar locations in a lesser populated area of town in PAIRS. Queue up online sales on your phone while waiting in line. Notice how online sales vanish while you are still able to purchase at physical location. Online is for suckers!"
From the same person, in response to a question:
"You got it! The trick is to buy in person and know at least the section you are interested in. With regards to queue, it seems as though they have a seperate inventory or faster access. It's completely different than the online experience where you click "Best Available" and get a random seat. The machines at Fiesta literally show the available blocks and they disappear as they are sold. So, if you know the section, they can hone on that and give you much better odds than the limited online inventory and random selection that you get through the website. Been doing this for years and have scored floor + stage center aisle for Roger Waters, multiple floor seats for Tool, floor for Muse, stage center aisle for Fleetwood Mac. Think about it, when you go to the website you are basically saying, hey I'm here to buy whatever you are willing to give me, there is no choice. It sucks, it always has sucked, and it always will suck. I could have bought more after 11:08, but I got what I needed and left."
So I'll definitely give this a try next time, but just wanted to pass the info a long to you. Good luck, you're probably going to need it!
So I need to go to the ticketmaster sales counter at the arena to get tickets? I have never had this kind of issues in the past. It is really getting out of hand. Side note, the last time I got tickets for Tool it was at the ticket counter in 2007.

So I need to go to the ticketmaster sales counter at the arena to get tickets? I have never had this kind of issues in the past. It is really getting out of hand. Side note, the last time I got tickets for Tool it was at the ticket counter in 2007.
Ya, go to an actual physical location, but probably not the venue itself. Ticketmaster will usually have locations in grocery stores. In this area, it's often in Fiesta. I think you should be able to find the list of locations on their site.
If you're able to be off work when the tickets go on sale, it will save you lots of headaches and you'll likely end up with a much better seat. Tickets have been insane this tour for just about all the dates. If I knew this ahead of time, I'd have been hanging out in the grocery store for a few hours that morning!

It looks like they are at Walmarts here, but there is a ticketmaster at the venue too, which is the closest to my work. I probably can't get off, but my work is lenient enough that I could go and get tickets and come back to work.
And just make sure to have your phone with you, trying to pull tickets on the mobile app at the same time. Bound to end up with something good at that point!
The arena box office will prob have ppl waiting in line so you can easily get fucked if it takes a while. Stoked about NOLA! Will prob do Nashville too since I have tix, mainly bc Primus is opening.
So.....one thing of note about the NOLA show for people that are down for travelling is that it is on a Mardi Gras parade day! Krewe of Carrolton> Krewe of Arthur & Merlin > Krewe of Alla > Krewe of Femme Fatale > Primus> TOOL> face melted
Did they do presale for any of the other shows? That would be awesome if they did.
No. The only presale was for VIP tickets via Tool Army (the fan club you have to pay to join, think $50). However, they did put any unsold VIP tickets up for general sale after a day or two. They have some for the SA show still, and am having to restrain myself from putting them in my basket. It's expensive, but having Adam Jones play the Jambi solo 3' from your face is pretty priceless.
So they need to get shit together for this New Orleans show that may or may not happen. Stressing me the fuck out. It is now no longer listed anywhere other than on the facebook event page. 5 years is too long without Tool.

I have never seen a show leak on TM then not happen. It's a regular occurrence with Phish shows, one or two shows always leak on TM then get taken down until the official announcement. I think we are good.
This article once again has the New Orleans date as the 30th, which is unfortunate because there is a Pelican's game at the Smoothie King Center that night and no way that Tool is playing that night. This just is further confusion for our New Orleans chances.

It looks like it's true (Tool army said Primus posted the dates) I'm not going to both. I haven't been looking forward to the 8 hour drive to ATL. I'll likely buy Orlando tickets and sell my ATL tickets. Just frustrates me I have to go through this ticket buying stress twice
Edit: getting lots of requests for the ATL tickets already. Let me see if Orlando actually happens and have tickets in hand before I even begin to discuss selling anything

If your schedule allows, I'd try hitting up an actual physical ticket location. Check out ticketmaster's site and will give you your local options. Check out my post at the bottom of page 2 in this thread. I haven't tried it myself, but if i could go back in time, I'd be in line at Fiesta for my SA Tool tickets!
And selling your Duluth tickets won't be an issue, especially if they're decent.
I was this close (itty bitty space) to booking flights and tickets for Nashville before sense kicked in (aka checked my credit card balance). So glad the Nola date is finally official.
that's going to have to do for me for now. i think they're more of a midwest thing, but I've seen them before, they're actually fucking awesome and even bring some toolesque visuals which is very cool
I saw a Tool tribute band once, they were pretty good. The thing with a Tool cover/tribute band is this.......no matter how good everyone in the band is, the drummer will never be good enough and that kinda kills it.
One of the best tribute bands I've seen was Siamese Dream, obv a pumpkins coverband.

yea it's not quite the same but i'm always impressed by these guys. i've seen em probably 3 times now and have enjoyed it, it's a 5th consolation prize. and intrigued so see a SOAD cover band
I'm glad Danny Carey grew up 45 minutes south of Kansas City. We never get screwed over. Hashtag blessed.
I wonder if his parents are still alive and kicking? Met them outside the arena in Wichita in 2002. These two adorable old people with backstage passes were out front taking pictures of the line. Probably not but hope they are.
