Didn't someone post predicting "watch frank cancel on hangout and sasquatch" months ago?
2 days after the COS article announcing he was playing sasquatch hangout and pano and sasquatch officially announcing it themselves, sasquatch awkwardly took "frank ocean headlining!" off of their website
am i the only one that really likes the new phoenix single?
Makes two of us.
Sooooo Dillon Francis is gonna be jammed packed if he is indeed closing the Boom Boom Tent. Have to imagine by the Instagram comments and peoples reactions against Phoenix. It's like 5 to 1 negative.
That's because Hangout 2017 is worlds different than Hangout 2015. Pop and commercial inspired kids with limited exposure to the music world. Hangout did indeed bring this on themselves, but god fucking damn. Who in their right mind that knows better is going to complain about someone like Frank Ocean being replaced when it was him that pulled out. What are they going to replace him with, Cyndi Lauper? Fuck that shit. Again, I know that some people like him, and okay fine. But it sure isn't Hangout's fault beyond their lack of communication. To any long timers, you already know they suck Cartman's balls when it comes to communication. zaj was trolling them back in 2014 for Christ sakes.
Frank makes pop music with an interesting. Phoenix makes a sound pretty much every band at their peak time was making. I love both but Frank is definitely the better get
Frank is also very experimental. Plus I connect to his music on a real emotional level. Phoenix to me is literally just fun pop music. I mean maybe some of you guys don't like his music or don't think he should be a headliner, but the dude isn't a hack. There's a huge difference between someone like Frank Ocean and someone like The Weeknd.
Todd,
I certainly don't mean to come across as a hater, but outside of Sfax and Motown era, I can't stand R&B crooning. Not even Keith Sweat or that era. I recognize Ocean is somewhat experimental, and he is or was a part of the OFWGKTA collective. And he as a performer in my eyes is better than the overrated Weeknd. But I still have a 0 in 10 interest in paying to see him. Like I said earlier in the week, fuck him and assholes like Young Thug who don't keep their commitments to their fans. Repeated unreliability in this era of easy travel either means they really don't give a fuck about their fans (or there are mental issues.)
Unrelated yet related: I've been jamming to Susto all day at work. My new fave Hangout discovery.
Here's a game we may or may not have already played. What undercard band had you never heard of until Hangout and now they're one of your favs?
For me: The Weeks (in 2012 I think). Amazing band just saw them for like the 5th time last Saturday and they are still great.
Not necessarily never heard of, but first time saw live in person:
2012 - String Cheese Incident, Randy Newman, Steve Winwood, Dispatch, Flaming Lips, Coheed & Cambria, Julian Marley, Gary Clark, Jr., Tribal Seeds
2013 - Petty, Stevie, Trey Anastasio Band, Aioki, Mule, Jim James Band, Porter Robinson (then a dub artist), moe., The Breeders, Sheepdogs
2014 - Outkast, Wiz Khalifa, Bloody Beetroots (live), Balkan Beat Box, Mimosa, RDGLDGRN, Gemini Club (first I heard them), Diarrhea Planet
2015 - Beck, MMJ, Jr. Gong, Dirty Heads, Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, Gramatik, J. Roddy & The Business, Jeff the B'hood, Jillionaire solo
So while that might not be the world's most impressive list of acts, maybe it demonstrates why I hate 2016 and 2017 so much. There's nothing new that I want to see, and nothing really to learn from. Weezer, Migos and Mac Demarco are the only acts I haven't personally witnessed that I'd want to see. And I've seen them all on live streams and tv enough to know that Mac would be the most interesting to me and Migos probably the wildest show.

Honestly, I don't know how I feel about his reason for canceling. If you know your show isn't ready, should you go on and give a mediocre headlining set? At least he didn't do it days before the festival. He definitely backed out of Hangout at least a week ago and Hangout didn't want to announce it until they had a replacement. He probably isn't allowed to announce that sort of thing himself. I'm not trying to say he's completely excused, I'm just not going to judge him as a terrible person yet. I know I'm making another comparison to this guy, but it's not as bad as when The Weeknd pulled out days before Meadows just so he could be on SNL instead. Now that was completely shitty of him.
So you are playing for a crowd of half Trump and Half not people when political tensions are pretty high. It is hot, end of day, booze aplenty, and you just kicked off with four loud as hell great rocks songs and you stop and start this protest monologue with A lot of "Fock Trump" statements and somebody (s) in the crowd goes "oh yeah" and pokes a redneck and voila, bloody noses, first aid, stomped body parts. I think the folks smoking weed probably got the worst of it. Alcohol/meth >>> mellow weed in a bar fight. This was about the time I headed for the gate.
That's hilarious. I wish I was there, woulda been a ton of fun to watch.
I was there & I saw alot of people agreeing with Eddie (and smoking dope too). I'll always have a soft spot for G-Eazy & his Voodoo set where he did a song with a giant backdrop that said 'Quack Donald Trump'.
What did you have conflicting? Regardless if I get dragged to Hangout or not next weekend, I'll be back in NOLA for Sigur Ros Sunday night. I would have seen Chance, Shaggy, Bob Moses and probably Warpaint. i didn't download the app, but it looks like Chance/Warpaint would be the one I'd be most affected by. And I'd see Chance all day there.

I hear you. That guy seems like a grade A douche. Frank is more esoteric I guess and less ego driven. Kid Cudi had the very issue you mentioned I think late 2015. He tried to do one show or something and he had a breakdown. We saw him March 2016 @ Buku, and it was fine. But I guess sometimes you do have to defer to the artist.
The lineup obviously isn't great top to bottom but I would have zero issues with these 3 days of music. Could be so much worse.
FRIDAY: White Reaper--> Bishop Briggs-->Mac Demarco--> MGMT--> Weezer--> Phoenix
SATURDAY: Mondo Cozmo--> Mutemath--> Rainbow Kitten Surprise--> Rufus Du Sol--> Lewis Del Mar--> Band Of Horses--> Head & The Heart--> Sigur Ros (this day would kick ass)
SUNDAY: Shaggy--> Strand Of Oaks--> Bob Moses--> Franz Ferdinand--> Chance The Rapper--> Mumford & Sons (I would normally see Warpaint, Young The Giant, and Lawrence but the schedule is a shitshow)

That addition of Phoenix on Friday makes a difference to me. That went from a blah day to alright, I could get Mac, Weezer and Phoenix in (I also personally dig Ferg).
Mumford does not have 2 songs Bob. That's quite the exaggeration I'd have to say. Sorry, but have to call you out on that one. I do like some of your possible headliners though
I saw The Damned recently & Captain Sensible hates Mumford & Sons. Slagged them at least 3 times in comments. I certainly like them more than he does. Guess they wouldn't play his kid's birthday party back before they made it.
