Have/had a good run of free shows for the Rochester Lilac Fest (Start Making Sense - Talking Heads Tribute, Get the Led Out - Zeppelin Tribute, Ripe yesterday which was awesome, Lettuce today, Big Head Todd and the Monsters on Friday and Turkuaz on Sunday) so that is getting me through but this weekend I will be hate liking all of sparkysarah's Gulf pics.
Lulu's for cheeseburger paradise style. Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes. Kosher pickle and cold draft beer. Picked up mom a couple "what did you bring me back from your vacation" items. I'll be singing Jimmy and sippin gritas on the deck tonight.
Why can't every other fucking place in the world just have fifth bottles at gas stations? It makes life fucking so much easier so that when I hangout with my wangout in places like Gulf Shores, I don't have to work so hard to find reasonably priced liquor. :/

...or drive thrus...there was a place when I was in high school you could pull up and get a mixed drink right in the window! (yes, I'm glad to still be alive.)
Random question, Is there a liquor store nearby and a grocery store? I'm staying at gulf state park campground.
super Wal-Mart (in gulf shores) is super close to the campground...buy your liquor further away, but plenty of stores.
You went to high school in Louisiana? It's still that way around there. I moved to Houston from Baton Rouge a few years ago and not being able to get drive thru margaritas and gas station whiskey was/is the hardest adjustment.

yeah, I've done it there too...and many years ago in ohio (not a drink, but some kind of odd liquor drive thru)...but no, just another small southern town.
The Only place to shop while at hangout is piggly wiggly.
Piggly Wiggly for the win. It's on Hwy 59 in Foley. You will not see it if you take the beach express to Orange Beach. That place is loaded with great craft beers!!

Have lived in Mobile, Al my whole life so was always use to liquor only being at liquor stores and last year moved to Baton Rouge a couple months before moving back and my favorite part about grocery shopping was being able to get liquor at the same spot. Missed that when I moved back lol

For sure. That's bad enough but then some fucking blue laws really piss me off. No beer sales after 2am (some more redneck areas of the state do this) and no beer until 12 on a Sunday in TX. Damn. I want a fucking beer. Let me buy it when I want it. That's my one bitch traveling outside of LA and specifically New Orleans. And if I'm walking, why can't I have a can of beer or glass of mixed drink? Would these Bible totin' legislators rather i be driving?

Liquor laws are the most ridiculous things. In Colorado you can only buy 3.2 beer at the grocery store. If you want regular beer you got to go to a liquor store.
Here in San Diego they sell hard liquor wherever whenever. Picking up a shower curtain at Bed Bath and Beyond but need a shower vodka too? No problem. DON'T YOU DARE DRINK ANY ALCOHOL ON THE BEACH THOUGH.

Turned on my out-of-office notification, high-fived my boss, drove home listening to RKS, and am now having my first beer of vacation! I have lots of errands to run tomorrow, but will be on my way first thing Thursday morning.

Completely agree! This year on Joe Cain Day completely forgot the Sunday rule and thought was gonna suck since I wanted some beer but luckily always keep some liquor on deck for emergencies like that! And yes sir even as Christian guy in the south our rules are beyond back woods and behind the times on such stupid things!
Richie's Liqour Warehouse down the street from McGuires in Pensacola is THE place for liquor. Walmart for my beer and housewares. Condo didn't have a drain plug for sink. I asked around for better Shrimp and BBQ and bought a couple pounds from a fellow on County Line Road 10 and 59 (look for Shell station). Deeeeelicious with Sweet Baby Rays sauce. It was handy that the seafood shop was right next door. Guy new my brother from Pulaski TN and steamed me up a couple pounds of Jumbo Shrimp. I make my own cocktail sauce. Deeeelicious!
Spent the afternoon walking the beach and talking to the folks. Got a photo of the blue chairs and met the security guy from Nawlins. Swimming in the saltwater has already made my head clear up some. Hopefully more tomorrow. Water is perfect. New mattress soooo nice. The IWW staff reiterated their ok for prepartyThursday. I asked around about DJ on the beach and alcohol. The sign posted at IWW is pretty clear about not leaving equipment after dark, but doesn't speak to ongoing use. All agreed fining folks for drinking on the beach was laughable.

Y'all and Mississippi are a bit but we were primarily French so alcohol wasn't really ever a big thing. Maybe that's an urban legend from the way back, I don't know. But I'm sure the blue laws were based on giving people enough time to go to church or maybe making sure they would. Haha.
Yeah Richies is great. They have some things there I can't get here. There is a new brew pub right behind McGuire's that was pretty excellent last time I went called Gulf Coast Brewery.

Liquor is much cheaper in FL if you happen to be flying into Pensacola or coming from that direction, get some before you cross the line. The Pig will be a bit of a distance from the campground but there is a liquor store in the Winn dixie center not far from the campground.
Also lmfao (and I'll give the [tm] to Sgt. Blotter) all the scallywags on stubhub jacked their prices up since this am. You could get tickets for 204 this morning, but cheapest are like 309.25 now. Haha. Dix

Grocery store, if you want groceries and fresh shrimp, is Rouses at 59 and Fort Morgan Rd, just as you get into gulf shores proper. 1st big 4 way light after the big bridge. They originated in New Orleans, so they also sell crawfish cooked (or not) by the sack. They also have the biggest choice of "build your own 6-pack" craft beers around, and a huge wine selection. A mile or so south on 59, at east 2nd street, is the local ABC store, (Alabama beverage control). Pretty much comparable to liquor store prices in FL, since it's state run and they don't charge themselves the same high taxes.

They are actually from down the bayou in Lockport, LA (mais yeah) down there in Lafourche which is sort of the eastern edge of acadiana (cajuns) maybe 50ish miles SW of here. Their good stores are actually pretty good for a local chain. Depending on the specific store and boiler, they put out some respectable crawfish, corn, potatoes and sausage.
