I agree. I really appreciate seeing parents bonding with their kids and exposing them to good new (ANY) music. Especially when they're donning oversize headphones. There is a knee-jerk reaction by society to be shocked, but god forbid they see raw creativity in comparison to the garbage they're exposed to on TV on a daily basis.
I see your point, and I saw a lot of teens and tweens with their folks. But the 5 and 6 year-olds looked confused and bored.
Had they been raised by cool parent(s), they would have been getting down. Then again, it was 2016 Hangout and not Rebirth in a park or something. \R/
So many acts that are just so obviously not gonna happen for this festival, which sucks. New NIN coming later this year, I'd love to have Trent Reznor close out the main stage
Gorillaz Daft Punk NIN St Vincent Green Day Strokes, nope well get what Jugg suggested.
Who else is will prolly HL next year (other fests)
I don't know. But I gotta figure Cheese will be headlining Forest and Hulaween. Bassnectar will be headlining Bass Center. Haha. I still haven't gotten the full report on it last weekend in Denver, but I did hear from 2 of my kids who went that it was the loudest show they had ever been to, and the Saturday set was harder. Also Wu Tang was great (some missing members, not sure yet). Disco Biscuits \m/ will be headlining Camp Bisco. etc. You knew all that. I don't have 17 fully in focus yet. You gotta rattle those cages with your connections and get the official word on Waka. That and whether or not i buy a new car will determine what I'm going to hit. You told me you have 5 festivals to go this year. That's bad ass. Like I said, I got Bear Creek Bayou (Lotus, Flaming Lips, Lettuce, Papadosio...), Voodoo (Tool, Arcade Fire, Cage, Gramatik, Puscifer, STS9, Claypool/Lennon...) and Day for Night. I'm excited to see who they will name sometime in the next few weeks. As per an earlier post by you, they are claiming to have topped Kendrick, New Order, Glass, etc). Other than that, I will be seeing Kraftwerk in 3D next month. Chance the Rapper and GRiZ in early October. And I might go catch Herobust next weekend. I haven't seen an electronic act in a while, and he was good at Waka 14 and wherever else I saw him. Pretty cool to have a fall schedule to look forward to. Plus ACL is livestreamed, so I can get me some of that for free.
With Coldplay touring and doing Made In America on Labor Day i would expect them to hit up some fests next year. Probably the bigger ones though, im not a fan so i dont really care either way lol
Their fest set wouldn't obviously be the same as their stadium tour they just did but all my friends that caught their shows this summer were amazed how awesome they were live. None of them are real Coldplay fans at all either. Just snagged nosebleeds for like $40-50 and checked em out. I would have no problem with them in the top 3 of whatever fests I hit up next year. Saves me from having to spend $100+ on a good seat at their own show.
I would rather Hangout put $750K somewhere other than Coldplay. I don't listen to EDM or hip-rap, but a few of the more main stream bands Hangout has booked were fun on the beach. I have enjoyed, KOL, Black Keys, Tom Petty, Jack White, RHCPs, and Foos. Would really like to see some more of those type performers. There are some good performers in the $25K list. I would enjoy seeing Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I enjoyed Gary Clark Jr, TV on the Radio, Drive By Truckers, and a whole lot of others. I'd go see Amos Lee or Jason Isbell anywhere and anytime.
Arcade Fire is listed as $125K. Bassnectar $100-150K. Calvin Harris $150K. Deadmau5 $200-250K. Drake $300-500K. Florence and the Machine $100-150K. Foo Fighters $500K. KOL $400-500K. Kendrick Lamar $150K. Mumford and Sons $400-500K. Zac Brown Band $250-400K. Queens of the Stone Age $75K.
I agree that they should use those funds differently but I guess what I mean is I'd rather see them over some of the other options being floated around- Drake, The Weeknd or Calvin from last year, 21 Pilots (since they're that big now), Black Keys or KOL (seen both already, don't need them again), etc.
Agree. I'd like to see Doobies on Sunday night. Maybe Chance the Rapper or somebody you young bucks want who can throw it down hard on Friday night. And somebody popular enough with a good "dancing in the sand" vibe for Saturday with usual "something for everyone" undercard.

That is what I wrote. The article was current but, cited 2013 data. Probably best they have. Probably multiply those numbers by 1.5. They mega stars aren't listed. They probably pull in $2-5 million a show. And we keep giving them our money.
Fuck it. 8th Anniversary all the best sets from the past. Raise the price to 500. Idgaf. I'm in for 8! I like the idea of bringing the best back for a huge reunion concert. That would mean KOL, Tom Petty, OCMS, Amos Lee, and Jason Isbell would all show up!!!!
Friday - $1M for Kendrick, Drake and Kanye. Let them have a live knife fight over who is the headliner/biggest ego. Saturday - $1M for Jimmy Buffett and give him all three hours closing on the main stage. Open the beach access. Free margaritas for everyone. Sunday - $1M for Greg Allman, Warren Haynes, Dickie Betts, and Tedeschi Trucks band closing from 9-11 and Doobies close the Surf Stage from 6:30-7:45.
Sprinkle the remaining $2M on best fit of equal number and affordable talent in each genre; rock, R&B, EDM, folk/songwriters, blues, indie, alternative, gospel, whatever.

I read another article saying those numbers were good in 2014. Again, given all the perks, side deals, etc., they are probably in the ball park When adding for a couple years of inflation and current demand. DMB definitely up there with Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Timberlake, and others listed at $1M, in my opinion. Given the beach, weather in May, condos, and other perks, Hangout should be able to say, "come to Hangout and play on the beach before and after you play on the stage". It should count for something with some bands. I would like to see DMB do a rerun as they had some health issues last time and their music and sound is great on the beach. But, would sure rather see the Doobie Brothers for a whole lot less money.
