Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
This will probably be my most concert/fest heavy year. I don't think I want to repeat it. Total ticket expenditure for festival tickets alone is >$1,000.00 (no regrets)
I'm thinking total expenditures are in the $5k range (tickets, travel, camping, booze, tshirts, etc.). Ugh.
Favorites of a fairly light live musical performance year...
1. Jason Isbell at Bonnaroo 2. Chris Stapleton at Bonnaroo 3. Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors at Ascend Nashville (even though he was the opener - awesome. His live a the Ryman one of my favorite albums of the year) 4. Amos Lee at Ascend 5. Journey at Ascend 6. Dave Mason at Ascend 7. Dallas Moore at Florabama two nights in a row 8. Nathaniel Ratliffe at Bonnaroo 9. Amanda Shires at Bonnaroo. 10. Pearl Jam at Bonnaroo

So these are my favorite festival acts of the year so far. Graded them all by stars and then ranked them from there.
Fives: 1. Radiohead ACL: Easily one of the best live shows I've ever seen in person. I came in a casual fan but did not leave that way. I didn't really understand why they are considered one of the biggest bands in the world before this. I stood surrounded by people who had traveled as far as Canada, California and Minnesota to see them. Magical is about all I can muster up. 2. Dead and Co Roo: After seeing multiple variations of the various band members side projects over the years and having numerous vocal Deadheads in my family, it was fulfilling to finally see the closest thing to the original band as I could in a festival setting (RIP Jerry). Big fan of John Mayer---his musical talent more than his douchebaggery---but I was nervous how he would perform with the band but he fit in almost perfectly. Me and part of my group waited almost all day in the pit line and I've never been so close for a Jam band show ever and I spent all three hours in awe and literally speechless focusing on all the small details of their jams, their transition keys and such. Just extremely badass. 3. LCD Soundsystem ACL: Despite all my trolling at the beginning of the year about them headlining everywhere, this show made my top three. I didn't get there music at all until I gave them a chance at Roo but my friends made me leave after just a few songs but I was hooked. Their ACL set rocked so much harder and was a giant dance party blast. I didn't even care it was the same set. Still unbelievably awesome. 4. Sia Coachella: Unparalleled originality. A work of art I've never seen in a festival setting. She deserved to headline that night and blew Calvin Harris out of the water. 5. Ice Cube Coachella: Pretty much on the rail for this one and it was worth the wait all day from Moon Taxi so early in the day. Getting to see all the living members of NWA on stage plus Kendrick and all the others was really cool. 6. Florence and the Machine Hangout: saw her for the first time at ACL last year and I will see her at every festival she plays that I attend. She deserves to headline. Her energy and stage presence is unmatched. Always a great show. Even better on the beach. 7. Pearl Jam Roo: Old dudes still rocked it hard. Very good show. McCready is a monster. Dope hearing Black live for the first time. 8. Kendrick Lamar ACL: he's perfected his show. A paramount performance of rap.
Fours:
9. Ryan Adams Sloss: first time ever seeing this jackass of a rocker but he was as good as everyone says. His comment about Freebird had me dying. Guy deserves more mainstream praise than he gets even though he would hate it. 10. Deadmau5 Music Midtown: Joel is a giant tool but I was very impressed by his set. Hadn't seen anything so trancey before at a mainstream fest. Nice to check off another big DJ. 11. M83 Roo: Absolutely blown away by these guys. I had know idea of how legit their production and deep their musical talent went. I only knew that one big song and thought they were a DJ or some shit and not this giant French opera rock of sorts. Great show. 12. Of Monsters of Men Coachella: I'm a big fan so it was just a great singalong show waiting for the rest of the day. Like MMJ I doubt they'll ever headline but they should at some point later I hope when they're more classic old. 13. RL Grime Coachella: in the Cathedral of Womp that is the Sahara tent getting to see my favorite trap DJ was pure joy. Even got to enjoy that one with fellow Inforooer Billions. Mind blowing production and bangers for days.
14. The Lumineers Music Midtown: similar to Of Monsters and Men for me. Just a good folk pop/alt rock singalong. That had a pretty solid crowd too.
Threes:
15. Tame Impala Roo: the set was WAY too short but otherwise always impressive show from these guys. 16. Pretty Lights Buku: full band was epic. Danced my ass off. 17. Moon Taxi/Moon Taxi Rage Hangout: big fan of these guys and they killed both sets. That cover of All Along the Watchtower was insane! 18. Nathaniel Ratlieff and the Night Sweats ACL: fourth time seeing these guys this year and the crowds kept getting bigger and bigger. Refreshing soulful set. Good time. 19. Future Buku: went into this set thinking it would be a terrible show and he was actually really good. 20. Griz Roo: the funkiest of shit. So much fun. 21. Cashmere Cat B2B Trippy Turtle Buku: Waves. Enough said.
Still got Voodoo left so I figure I'll be adding Tool and Arcade Fire and probably Claypool Lennon Delirium to this as well.

HEY ALL, long time since I've checked in. I see everyone's been busy this year. I've been able to see a lot of great shows myself this year, a little clouded right now, but I will try my top 10.
1. Pearl Jam - (Mon.) Wrigley, Chi. - Maybe the best show I've seen, ever. 2. Dead & Co. - Klipsch, Indy - WOW, what a show!!!!! 3. The Revivalist - The Vogue, Indy - Great small hall venue, and they rocked the house that night. 4. Avett Bro. - Forecastle, Louisville - 5. Beck - Beale St., Mem. - Beck always puts on a great show. 6. Ben Harper - Forecastle, Louisville - 1st time I've seen him, and loved how much he mixed his show up, Rock, Folk, Reggae, Blues. 7. Nathaniel Ratliff & The Night Sweats - Beale St., Mem - Really fun Band, you gotta check these guys out. 8. My Morning Jacket - WRSP, Indy - 9. Mudcrutch - Summer Camp Fest., Ill. - 10. Jason Isbell - Summer Camp Fest., Ill. -
Biggest Disappointments - Bob Dylan - Paul Simon - Bob didn't play a single hit, and both were to slow & mellow for me on those nights.

Damn, I forgot about Modest Mouse in Memphis. I'd slide them into 3 or 4 spot. Beale St., Memphis was the best bang for the buck, under $100 for 3 days with a lot of great shows.
1. Umphrey's McGee, Red Rocks 2. Florence+The Machine, Hangout 3. Phish, Wrigley Field 4. George Clinton and Funkadelic, Summer Camp 5. Modest Mouse, KC Amphitheater 6. Umphrey's McGee, White River State Park 7. Jason Isbell, Hangout 8. Lettuce, Summercamp 9. Widespread Panic, Peabody Theater St. Louis 10. The Wailers, Hangout

1. Radiohead- Finally got to see them at Lolla this year. I camped out all day....it was the greatest show I've ever witnessed. They even played my favorite song "Myxomatosis", and I shat myself with joy. I got to see Thom shimmy only 5 feet away. I mean....wow! They even went 30 minutes over curfew, to give is their normal 2.5 hour show. To see Radiohead live...is to see you soul levitate above you. You don't feel like yourself and it's the best feeling a show can bring you.
2. Kanye West- Still had that sour taste in my mouth after his Roo set. Maybe my expectations were too high, since I saw him for the first time on the Yeezus tour in Toronto with Kendrick only 6 months prior and that was magicial, but that Roo set was a nightmare. The Pablo tour was next level Kanye, his energy was at an all time high and he really wanted to perform. Wasn't better than Yeezus but this was one for the ages.
3. Tame Impala- Their LN set at Roo was this nice little trip without the drugs. Being one of the sober ones(not on any hallucinogenics), this was my high of the Bonnaroo weekend. I wish it went longer but I had no complaints once the set was over, and I felt confident in my Roo purchase after seeing this set. They were amazing. Really want to see them in a venue now.
4. Pearl Jam- When I saw these guys on the Lightning Bolt tour, it was the first time I had ever seen them. It was impossible to get tickets any time they came to Buffalo. I finally got one, albeit nosebleeds. It was great, but it wasn't that knockout set I know they've been known for. Flashforward to 2016, and I'm at Roo only about 10 rows back. This set was the knockout I had been waiting for. A strong setlist, Eddie looked like he really wanted to be there, I saw each member shine here vs the Eddie show in Buffalo. Not to mention, they played my favorite song this go around "Black." It was perfect. He brought his daughter out too? I mean these are the Roo moments that make you think "Boo boo the fool could headline next year, and I'll be there", maybe I'm exaggerating in that sense but Pearl Jam really brought their A game.
5. LCD Soundsystem- I didn't question whether these guys could be a headliner, their music alone is meant for the big stage. I had never seen this many people on stage at the same time, and expect it to be a force. James Murphy and his cohorts sent me into a frenzy, and the notion of leaving LCD early to get a prime spot for Tame was completely washed from my existence once they got to "Losing my edge", it only got better from there. If you missed LCD in 2016, please please don't miss them in 2017. Reunions can be overhyped, but when they live up to the hype....it makes all the difference.
6. Grimes- I was pretty stoked to finally see Claire in full action. I watched many livestreams from SXSW, KEXP, P4K(who got her multiple times), and they all left me pining to see her. Lolla is the one fest I go to every year since 2012, because I love Chicago and I always love their lineups(save 2014). I camped for her set on Lakeshore, because this stage sound is so iffy. It was worth the wait, and she delivered one of the best sets all Lolla weekend. Her set was cut short due to RHCP, but she jam packed a strong set in that brief time and wasn't too flustered. How does she have that much energy? How does she multitask like this so swiftly? And those octaves? Wow...if she pops up on Roo, that's all I need because she was that great. Easily one of my favorite Lolla sets I've ever seen. She's a true work of art.
7. Local Natives- In 2013, I missed these guys for Matt and Kim. Matt and Kim on record is hit or miss, but live...they really throw down. It's wacky and over the top and that's fine by me. This time in 2016, I couldn't skip them at Lolla. The new material was really strong, I kept regretting missing them in 2013, and there wasn't anyone I was missing them for this time. By the time this set was over, I was in tears. Hearing "Sun Hands" live was a burst of emotion that just took hold of me, and just left me in bliss. That lead singer's voice is so angelic, and the band meshes so well on stage. It was fantastic.
8. Vince Staples- I saw Vince in a tent at Roo, and I was so hype for this set. I listen to a small amount of rappers, because there's so much garbage out there from Rae Stremmurd to Future, and Lil Yachty and so forth. For every trap crap, there's someone saying something like Kendrick. In this case, Vince is a no holds barred rapper. When he yells "Everybody say f&ck the police", there's no BS behind it. His emotion at his Roo set was powerful, and it was a nice mix of his music. Start to finish, aside from Kanye...this was my favorite rap show of the year. Saw him again at Lolla, and it was more of the same, but nothing beats that Roo set.
9. Flume- I'm not the biggest EDM fan, but his album was just too damn good. I had this gut feeling that he would bring out some guests. I was right, and I was front row for it. Thanks Samsung! Vic came out during "Lose It", and man did I ever. It was awesome. Then who could forget when Vince came out during "Smoke and Retribution", and ripped it. Flume is the type of EDM act we can root for, it's not cheesy, it's lush and he's got a nice mix of music. He's one of my favorite EDM acts after this Lolla set.
10. Frank Turner- I had heard great things about Frank from all my friends and pundits on the web. It's hard to find good punk these days, but when you do it's a breath of fresh air. I've always wanted to go to the famous Double Door venue in Chicago, and I finally got to during Lolla weekend this year. This aftershow by Frank Turner was a knockout of a show. His energy and charisma shined all night long, and I'm a fan for life. The way he connects with an audience is just something to behold. Hope he plays Roo or Riot next year, because I'm there!
Wow I love reading these recaps! With two young kids I don't get to see but a handful of shows a year aside from Hangout so I live vicariously thru you. I tend to favor the up and coming/mid tier bands but i'm so jealous of all these Radiohead reports. I'm ecstatic that they seem to be living up to the high expectations i hold for them. Love seeing Pearl Jam on a lot of these lists too. I'm a huge fan and the one show I saw a handful of years ago at the now extinct DeLuna fest was unforgettable. And if Florence started a cult, I'd happily follow her blindly after that HOF experience. Wailers were a highlight of my year too. i look forward to seeing Dead and Co someday.. bob Marley and Grateful Dead put my kids to sleep every night. Looking forward to our next night out for Marcus King Band and The Record Company in a few weeks. Keep the recaps coming please!

I'd say 50% of my friends are Chicago cops and some obviously go to Hangout and when he said that sh*t I thought one of them was going to throw a bottle at his head. I do like his music and I try not to get caught up in that nonsense, but he's a f*cking idiot to say that. I guess coming from Chicago and knowing the sh*t a lot of my friends are dealing with, it just turns me off when some wanna be tough guy from the hood who's 160lbs soaking wet tries to get a crowd of white people to chant that... just rubs me the wrong way.
Yeah. He's legit. I felt small back at Lollapolooza when Soundgarden covered Cop Killer (Ice T/Body Count). I was waiting for the cops on the perimeter, including roided state cops, to crack some skulls. Luckily they just stood there smirking all stick up the ass but allowing free speech. It's gotta annoy the shit out of law and order types, but free speech put into perspective is the right way to handle.

Oh yeah obviously they wouldn't do anything. Just rubs me the wrong way and is such a cheap way to get a pop out of a crowd. He doesn't need to do that. RTJ have some anti police lyrics too and it's part of the song and telling their story. Fine. I listen to it all the time when working out, it's great music for that. Same with Vince. But to go out of your way to jus talk sh*t like that is what bothers me.

He's from North side long beach, a place heavily influenced by crips and bloods. I don't think he was getting people riled up...he wants his lyrics and content to ring true. That one song called "Hands up" recalls an actual situation he and his friends went through. Go watch any of his interviews and you'll see that this guy is sincere with what he's preaching. I mean hell I live in the suburbs, but I don't want someone just rapping for money(Drake, G-Eazy, Desiigner, and so forth), I want it to mean something. Vince, Kendrick, Lupe, Nas, are all unapologetic rappers with a voice and don't hide behind it because it's what made them who they are as an artist and person today.
Yes I know. That's why I said I do appreciate his lyrics and music for what it is. But in between songs when you try and get the entire crowd to say "fuck the police" it just takes away from it imo. I hear that and I'm like "nah, i'm good, just perform your next song." Maybe it's just me.
Aside from a big payout which trumps all speculation, I can't see why Roger Waters would care about a beach fest catering to 18-25 crowd
Sure, you're absolutely right. I guess I'm trying to pretend that Hangout is still the kind of fest that a name like that, or Tom Petty, or Stevie Fricken Wonder would fit on the top line. Kygo it is, then. Hooray.

Maybe there will be a change of heart. That was our first year w Tom and Stevie and I really wish they stuck to it.
<< Tom Petty..fantastic show. And Warren Haynes and the Black Crowes were the lead ins on the Main Stage in 2013. So many really good musicians have crossed Hangout stages...up to 2016. I would have loved to see Lenny Kravitz, Florence, Judah and the Lion, and Leon Bridges but that was about it. Got to see Jason Isbell at Bonnaroo. I would love to see a return to 2011-2014. You never know what is going to happen next in this great big goofy world.
Edit - that was 2013 and the pre-party was the best to date...my opinion.

just announced Frank is back in Philly Jan 20 right my neighborhood again! I was bummed he is playing in Delaware on Halloween the same night as Foals but this worked out well.
Hangout 2013 pre-party - Umphrey’s McGee, Benny Benassi, Railroad Earth, Dillon Francis, Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, Lotus, Hayes Carll, Conspirator, Quixotic, Reptar, Wick-it the Instigator, St. Paul and The Broken Bones, and Future Rock. I paid an extra $20 with my $200 ticket (non-alumni were $249 I think). It was $45 day of. I would do that deal again anytime. Gates opened at 11 am and closed at 11 pm.
C'mon Goldenvoice...the challenge has been made! Beat this!
