Question for the locals. When Halloween doesn't directly fall on the festival dates/weekend, is there a particular day that everyone dresses up in costume? Not just in the festival grounds but Nola in general? I mean I know it's New Orleans and people are kind of dressed up year round anyway, but any insight there? I'll probably be back for Voodoo 2K17. Last year Halloween was on the Saturday of the festival so it was really easy. Although we decided to go out on the Friday and Saturday in costume.
People will dress up more on Sunday, but for Voodoo in general people dress up every day of the fest. Not as much so when a fest day isn't on Halloween though, but still way more than any other festival.
Nola in general will be more dressed up on Sunday.

Whatever day of the week Halloween falls on, everyone dresses up on that day. Though plenty of bars have contests leading up to Halloween and weekend Halloween parties, so you can find people dressed up pretty much from the weekend leading up to Halloween to Halloween night which obviously goes on until about 6:00am on All Saints Day.

YAY! Voodoo and I have had our issues also, but Tool on my actual birthday at Voodoo makes me feel like they are telling me "I am sorry." LOL
Also, I am not sure when y'all get into town, but Thursday night I am planning to do the House of Shock for an early birthday get together. All are welcome. I am going to create an event and will pass along deets if anyone is interested.

Me and my crew would love to do that but the Mobile contingent won't be coming over until Friday. I'll pass that along to the Houston contingent, I'm sure they'd love it.
I'm skipping whoever is Sunday headliner, even Tool. Seeing of Montreal at Soul Kitchen 100% now after catching the tour opener at the 40 Watt in Athens last weekend.
This tour is bonkers and musically one of the best he's done, definitely the most cohesive tour he's done ever. Plus the new album kicks major f'n ass.
I know you are a big fan of them. I think it's likely to be Claypool/Lennon, Puscifer and Arcade Fire, none of which I'd skip for Of Montreal, but that's me. Weeknd is obviously an ideal conflict though.

I'm gonna watch whoever is on the undercard and haul ass before the headliner at like 7pm.

That's sort of what I was going to do at Deadmau5 last year. Only other time I left early was Jack White to catch Saints v Broncos and we ended up getting mauled. I agree with VC though and hope it's nothing great. I also hope the Tool show ends up being at least a little different than the NOLA and P'Cola Januaty shows. I'm not going to hate if not, because it's Tool. But still...
Wondering when some good late night shows gonna get announced. Only thing remotely interesting to me so far is Galactic at Tips but even that isn't that exciting.
Hoping Howlin' Wolf does some more superjam funk throwdowns.

There's nothing much yet out there, and nothing that interests me.
Howlin' Wolf (The Den) has The Cold Water Electric Album Release Party Friday (no idea what that is)
Tipitina's The Jayhawks & Uke on Friday and Galactic (as you said) on Saturday
House of Blues: Nothing yet including pre-party. Though you know you don't want to miss the Stryper \m/ concert. LMFAO
Dragon's Den - Nothing but Kompression Sunday night
Metropolitan - Nicky Romero and others to be announced for Heaven & Hell
Republic - Nothing announced yet
Joy Theater - Nothing announced yet
Orpheum - Back to Back Nights of Brahams' Requiem with the Louisiana Philharmonic
Saenger Theatre - The entire week is "The Illusionists" Direct from Broadway, the world’s best selling magic show is coming to the Saenger Theatre!
This mind blowing spectacular showcases the jaw dropping talents of seven of the most incredible Illusionists on earth. THE ILLUSIONISTSTM – LIVE FROM BROADWAYTM has shattered box office records across the globe and dazzles audiences of all ages with a powerful mix of the most outrageous and astonishing acts ever to be seen on stage. This non-stop show is packed with thrilling and sophisticated magic of unprecedented proportions
I feel like Howlin' Wolf Funk mangs might say fuck it this year after that poor turnout for Funk Sabbath last year. You could tell they put a lot of time into preparing that show and only like what? 50 people came? The monsters of funk shows in the years before that had a much better turnout, but still not jazzfest type turnout where it sells out fast.
But yeah, I'm hoping for something fun on friday and/or saturday late night. We had fucking Mastodon last year. But maybe that was just a lucky accident that Civic booked them on halloween saturday. It definitely didn't have anything to do with the fest. Fest related after shows at house of rules have been pretty weak in recent years.
Yeah, I'm leaving sunday and working monday morning. Driving over friday so fri and sat nights are the only viable late night parties I'm interested in. Gonna be pretty depressing if that Siberia show saturday is the only option.
