Def plan on getting there Friday in time for Mutemath, the only non secular rock band I've ever liked.
Cmon bro!
Jk. Took me a while to realize that about MM, but they certainly don't rub it in your face and their relationship to religion is certainly more realistic. I believe the Odd Soul album was really about them questioning the whole idea of religion, and purpose in life.
Haha. Schedule is only 45 minutes away. Thanks for making me check on that as I entered the TOOL Giveaway for 2 VIP passes and a premium spot for Tool (assuming above the stage). I will win these, so no one should even bother entering. \m/
Too bad you didn't win this...My friend Justin's wife did, and he is effectively rubbing it in all of our faces. Fucking punk.
Pretty disappointed, not a single show I'm interested in.
While I'm a major Mutemath fan, it is pretty damn underwhelming of a list.
MuteMath, Bully and Peelander Z will all be great shows, but this is a weird Deja Voodoo aftershow list. I don't even know those people booked on Saturday.
There will be other shit too that's unofficial. Republic has nothing at all for the 28/29/30, and that will be DJ's.
Howlin Wolf 10/28 has the Cold Water Electric album release show for $5.00 and Hot 8 Brass Band which plays every Sunday on the 30th. They don't show anything yet for Saturday.
Tipitinas: Friday is Jayhawks with a late show Saturday Morning of DJ Questlove, Saturday is Galactic with Gravy
Dragon's Den has random shit though Church on Sunday at 10:00 is liable to be decent, and they will likely have Voodoo DJ's showing up (like Skrillex did back in 14).
Metropolitan has Nicky Romero (promoted by Disco Donnie) with more tba
Mardi Gras World Saturday has Hell's Gala - Steve Aoki, Mija, Bleep Bloop and Wuki out of Denver
Civic only has that Here Come the Mummies show (Sunday). They are liable to add something.
Joy Theatre has that Monsters of Funk show on Saturday (nothing Friday or Sunday yet). I figured STS9 would do a show there, but they are already doing Monsters of Funk that Saturday. They might have to hit the road after their set at Voodoo. I'll be at Big Gigantic and Illenium on Monday (Halloween) then they have Phantogram later in the week.
Maple Leaf has: Friday Ike Stubblefield, Herlin Riley & Eric Struthers, Saturday is Flow Tribe's Halloween Krunktacular, Sunday is Joe Krown Trio
That's all I got for now. No plans as of yet for anything which means it could be complete misbehavior at Voodoo. \V/
At first glance. All the rock acts besides Claypool/Lennon I've seen already if not multiple times.
I will come and double forearm smash you in the back at the Le Plur Tent at some point, but I don't have many shows over there this year. I'm going to look at that after I finish this part before I hit create post. Only rock bands I've seen that I'm going to are Tool (4x), Mutemath (1x), Reignwolf (2x), Puscifer (1x).
So for me, and some of this is wander by, I have:
Friday Seratones Foals Reignwolf
Saturday Pretty Reckless All Them Witches (both sets, I'm not missing either one) Ghost Cage the Elephant Lennon/Claypool Delirium Bully Tool Reignwolf (short set which means I might go see Kevin Gates Friday after Porter Live or if I get bored at Porter Live and want some rap)
Sunday Puscifer STS9 Arcade Fire
EDM on all days: Lunice, What So Not, Porter Live, Excision (few minutes), Bob Moses, Snails and maybe a few minutes of Gramatik since I'm not going to see Beats this year (bugging on that, but they are lower on the totem pole for me than Gramatik or STS9). Prepare to take some unexpected punishment. \m/
Now I gotta go look at my schedule by stages just to see where the fuck I'll be over the weekend.
It looks like I'll actually be at main stage more this year than probably any other year. And I'll be at EDM probably fewer than any year besides last year. By the way, some of the schedule has changed slightly. ATW short show got moved to Friday.
Friday: 1:30 Bear Hands (Altar Stage) 2:30 Seratones (South Course) 3:30 Mutemath (Altar Stage) 4:30 Lunice (Le Plur) 6:00 Foals (Altar Stage) 7:00 What So Not (Le Plur) 7:30 All Them Witches (Toyota Tent) 8:30 Porter Robinson Live (Le Plur) 9:30/9:45 Kevin Gates or Reignwolf for a few minutes (Pepsi or South Course) 9:45 Carnage (if it sucks, I'll just leave because I have no interest in The Weeknd
Saturday: 1:30 The Pretty Reckless (Altar Stage) 2:30 All Them Witches (Pepsi) 3:30 Reignwolf Short Set (Toyota Tent) 4:30 Bully (Pepsi) 6:00 Lennon/Claypool Delirium (Altar Stage) 7:30 Cage the Elephant (Altar Stage) 8:30 Excision (Le Plur) 9:00 Ghost (Pepsi) 9:30 Tool (Altar Stage)
Sunday 1:30 Preservation Hall (Altar Stage) 2:30 Bob Moses (South Course) 3:30 Anderson.Paak & The Free Nationals (Altar Stage) 4:30 Puscifer (Pepsi Stage) 5:30 Snails (Le Plur) 6:15 Gramatik (Le Plur) 6:30 STS9 (South Course) 7:30 Arcade Fire (Altar)
I have pretty much seen every single artist before (that are on my schedule that is) with the exceptions of: Nothing but Thieves; Chairlift; Oh Wonder; Saint Motel; The Shelters.
All Them Witches 2:30-3:30 (second show) Reignwolf 3:30-3:50 (second show) Bully 4:30-5:30 (second show) Claypool Lennon 5:30-6:30 (second show) All Them Witches 7:30-7:50 (third show lol) Excision 8:15-9:15 (first show) Tool 9:30-11:00 (fourth show)
Sunday
PHJB 1:30-2:30 (who knows, seen them many times) Bob Moses 2:30-3:30 (first show) Anderson.Paak 3:30-4:30 (first show) Puscifer or Charles Bradley 4:30-5:30 (first show) PHJB 5:30-6:00 STS9 6:30-7:30 (third or fourth show) Arcade Fire 7:30-9:00 (fourth show)
I counted 23 acts I've seen before overall as the discussion with MMM76 was just about rock shows. But based on my schedule and including partial shows, I'll see for the first time: Bear Hands, Seratones, Lunice, Foals, All Them Witches, Kevin Gates, Carnage (if I go), Pretty Reckless, Nothing But Thieves, Bully, Claypool/Lennon, DJ Mustard, Shakey Graves, Cage the Elephant, Ghost, The Shelters, Arcade Fire which comes to 17 new acts. I've seen a few of these streamed over the years, so I know generally what to expect from at least those sets, and the rest are educated guesses.
That sucks about Charles Bradley. I probably would have passed by that off schedule at some point.
Friday - The Shelters > PrezHall > Bob Moses > A Paak > (Charles Bradley Replacement) > Band of Horses > STS9/Beats Antique > Acrade Fire
We are at about 65% for Friday, 25% for Saturday and close on Sunday though I have some mid day differences, and it will be Gramatik > STS9 instead of Beats for me. Those Beats and Tribe stages will be adjacent, so if you're on the inside of one, it should be but a minute or ninety second walk to the other.
Sunday - The Shelters > PrezHall > Bob Moses > A Paak > (Charles Bradley Replacement) > Band of Horses > STS9/Beats Antique > Acrade Fire
Friday we are pretty similar; Saturday, we should just hang all day because we are what for what till the end (except you are missing Nothing but Thieves), and Sunday all but A Paak.
Greenbaum and Kelly spent time considering festival-goers' biggest complaints. Among them, they said, was the issue of sound bleed, when artists on one stage were drowned out by the musicians on another across the park. To fix it, they're changing the map so that the Le Plur stage, which features EDM acts, faces away from the inside of the park. The biggest performance space, the Altar Stage, will swap places with one of the smaller ones and, most notably, it will shut down when acts take over the two smaller stages. Those smaller stages will likewise wrap up when a performer is scheduled for the Altar Stage.
"We believe the distance between the bands when they're playing means it should not be a conflict," Greenbaum said. "We know it'll be better for the musicians. We had a problem where musicians were complaining that it was barreling onto their stage. They were a quieter act and they were getting run over."
The map is changing in other ways, too. For one thing, it's physically grown to include more of City Park's oak trees and permanent structures. The Reunion Shelter pavilion on Friedrich's Avenue will be the new festival entrance, and the food court — now called Forked Up — will be lined on a concrete pathway to avoid muddy pits even if inclement weather is a problem.
I used the prior year map and my MS paint skills to mock up the changes to the map based on the above:
Based on the above, I think Le Plur has to be angled southwest to have the sound firing out of the grounds. I can't recall the space, I wonder if there will be sufficient room for the crowd this way. Probably be fine.
I just noticed they moved the entrance, based on the location of the Reunion Shelter on google maps it will basically be where VIP was in prior years.
They say main stage is switching with a smaller stage, in my mock above i'm guessing it switches with Carnival. In my memory there was always lots of space behind me at that stage.

I am actually wondering how much more of City Park they are adding (trees and such). Also, they changed the names of the stages and you did not do that with your MS Paint. I am assuming that Carnival is now Pepsi and Preservation is now South Course (where did they come up with this shit?). Also, I am assuming that they will have sodas this year and it will be Pepsi. Not sure where that brainchild came from, but call it a lucky guess.
So guys... what's the deal with costumes? Is that a thing for all 3 days, or will it mostly be Sunday this year?
There will be a ton of people dressed up all three days. More will be dressed up on Sunday especially since Halloween is on Monday. The most common outfit will be Waldo. We had a contest of who could find the most...I won taking a photo of 21 Waldos all together. Seriously be more original than that please.
I personally have ordered a brand new onsie, and then have my choice of either my batman onsie, my zebra onsie, my giraffe onsie or my cute spirit hoodie. Or like a shit-ton of other cute, comfortable costumes. The key is comfort and what you are comfortable in. I am assuming you are like most on here and planning on being out all day/night, so you are going to want to be comfortable in whatever you decide to wear.
Good work there Postjack. You might be right with the layout. I'm guessing they will angle Le Plur so that it blasts away at angle that wont bounce back at any of the other stages. It doesn't mean that there won't be any bleed with loud ass DJs, but it was pretty minimal last year except when Flow Tribe was on the main stage and Hundred Waters was on Flambeau. And that was more to do with some of the very soft portions of songs Hundred Waters plays. Otherwise, the only time there was bleed that I heard was walking between stages. I'm also wondering how much more room they are taking up and what that means for mobility. Last couple of years the longest walk was between Altar and Flambeau (which I think was the one farthest out). That still only took a few minutes. Prior to that it was out to the EDM stage which was at the other end. Since I'm all over the map each day, mobility will be important for maximizing sets.
I'm not sure if I'm going to dress up this year or not. I'm pretty broke until Voodoo weekend, and I haven't been feeling creative. However, the recent rash of scary clowns kind of has me wanting to just bring candy and troll people.
