I can't take vacation days that week, so I am not going for the full time, but I am hoping to do a day ticket or two if I can get someone to drive with me. I am impatiently waiting for the daily lineup! I actually quite like this.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Definitely going to this again. I was surprised how much fun it was last year. The mountain makes it incredibly easy to see every act.
Yeah, I enjoy this festival a lot. I had to sell my ticket last year because of a new position and it was a required work weekend (which is the weekend after it this year). I am pretty sure that as long as I stay in this position/office, I will never be able to make a full MJ again. Which is sad.

Bummer. Fortunately they do day passes (I did 2 days last year). However, I stayed at a really inconvenient hotel. Straight Bates Motel style. This year I am going to try to stay in one closer to the festival (and way less creepy).
I also got pulled over rather quickly on my way back to my hotel Saturday night. Got pulled out, sobriety tested and breathalyzed. Luckily I stopped drinking approx. 2 hours before, and was sent on my way.
Wilco, Avetts, Beck, Isbell, Gary Clark, Nathaniel Rateliff.....very nice.
Originally I was planning on attending Governor's Ball, but this lineup may have changed my mind. This is probably a little less than a two hour drive for me, and would be so much easier to get to logistically. Also, there's camping, and it's at least $75 cheaper than Gov's Ball.
The lineup is a great mix of artists I'd like to see including Beck, The Avetts, Gov't Mule, Gary Clark Jr. and then recent up-and-coming talent like Nathaniel Rateliff, Jason Isbell, Courtney Barnett, and Son Little.
How is the camping experience there? I've never been to a camping festival, as I've only typically done single days.

You should research Jason Isbell a little more if you're calling him an up and coming talent.

I know nothing about him, I've only recently heard about him as he was in the festival circuit last year. I apologize if this was the wrong thing to refer to him as, as I'm just getting back into the music scene after a hiatus last year when my son was born and passed away 6 months later.
Outside of a couple names, I find this kinda boring and really safe. Kinda disappointed.
Same. Which is a bummer, because the mountain is a very nice setting for a festival.
Aside from Beck, it seems like most of the names have been on the lineup before. I understand Gov't Mule and Franti/Spearhead will appear every year, but much of the top half of the lineup has repeated from recent history. And anyone I want to see on this lineup, I already have at some other festival.

This lineup was made for me. I'm so tired of the "I've seen these acts before" complaint. If they're good and you like them then what's the problem?
I like 11 or 12 out of the top 15 names. This lineup is awesome. Yea, I've seen Wilco and Avetts a bunch of times. And I've loved every one of them.
I wish I could pull this off but if I can afford to do anything this summer it'll be Bonnaroo (unless the lineup is really terrible). And I'm not even sure about that.
I'll probably apply to this. Happy Sister Sparrow is making their way up the rankings from when they first played there. Didn't expect them to be above Turkuaz and New Mastersounds. Love Cannon is always a fun set.
If they had asked me who I wanted to play a festival I wouldn't have come up with a lineup this good. It is a lot of acts I have seen before, but they are all amazing shows. I said last week two must see bands for me this summer are Nathaniel Rateliff and Love Canon. Have to wait for Roo now. I can only do one fest and I live in Murfreesboro, so a 30 minute drive vs a 10 hour drive might be the difference maker.
Of course the one year the lineup is enticing enough for me to want to go, my best friend is getting married.
I'm never going to see Beck. Goddamnitall.
Maybe he'll be the Sunday closer
Her wedding is the 4th. So I mean, if he plays any day other than that, I might get a day pass. I could just go to Gov Ball, but I'd much rather be on the mountain than in the city.

I thought this was a lot further for some reason, but it's only two hours away. I was starting to feel guilty with all the city festivals. Add one more to the list. I'm up to Gov. Ball, Shaky Knees, Osheaga, Panorama for LCD, Boston Calling for Sufjan and possibly Newport. This is going to be an expensive summer.

That's unfortunate, although I'm not sure anyone really expected Dead & Company to play Mountain Jam. This lineup is pretty decent so far, but it could really use another headliner or some solid second-tier additions to really make this stand out.
I'm debating between this and Governor's Ball, as I only really can afford one festival that isn't too far away (besides going to a day of Newport Folk). Has anyone gone to Mountain Jam before, and if so, is it a fun experience? I've never camped at a festival before, so it might be interesting!

Mountain Jam is pretty nice. The two main stages are side by side at the bottom of the mountain, and people sit going up the mountain looking down. The third stage is inside one of the main buildings, and has a couple hundred capacity.
For camping, it can and has gotten chilly at night. I've been up there and it was 60 during the day and dipped into the 40s if not upper 30s at night.

Thanks for the info! Do you think they'll be adding any more artists to the lineup? I believe they added Robert Plant later after the initial lineup last year, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm debating on going to this, as it seems like it could be a great time.
I'm still considering Governor's Ball, but this seems a lot easier to get to logistically, and its cheaper. However, Governor's Ball has the better lineup so far..
