I listed the acts I am either excited for or am generally a big fan of and put them in order of (personal) excitement along with how many times I've seen them.
it's a sad list for a festival where I'm usually excited for like 40+ artists.
most of those I've seen in this list include a set within the last year. there are a good handful of artists I would check out/look into more outside of this list, but under normal circumstances that would account for filler time during the fest - not 75% of what I'm seeing at a festival. I don't want to be indifferent to everything I'm seeing.
- LCD - M83 - pearl jam - dead & co - tame impala (1) - shamir - blood orange - ellie goulding - big grams (0) (but have seen phantogram 4 times) - hundred waters (3) - HAIM (2) - st lucia - FJM (4? 5?) - death cab (2) - saint motel - daughter (2) - CHVRCHES (2) - lord huron (6) - purity ring (1) - borns

I still think there are more artists other than the headliners to be released solely because of Roo Clue 7. I've scanned the leaked lineup multiple times and can't seem to find any band that matches up with it even with research. Anyone else?
You really think that's the case, with artists not taking Bonnaroo seriously? I am sure it happens at a lot of festivals but every year certain artists seem to absolutely LOVE the festival and make that well known.
I dunno, I'm more just spit balling. But the way Bonnaroo always tries to market itself as a festival for a certain type of person rather than a festival with a certain type of music made me nervous. Who's to say this isn't affecting artists and booking agents? I have no reason to think this is actually happening, but I've been pondering it since last night.
Reminds me of Apple. Not saying that's a bad thing.

Well first off.....I don't know for sure if they are "out" of the band. The person who told me that said it was just "touring guitarist/drummer" so that leads me to believe it may just be temporary. Like maybe those guys worked on the album and just won't be around for the full tour.
Edit: I didn't see Billadelphia's post. Lame
That said....I love Leon Bridges and I can understand why playing backup for him may be a bit of a priority right now. He's getting some huge shows and just played SNL. I'm assuming they are making a bit more money and are getting a hell of an opportunity.
I am really hoping those guys go back to White Denim, though. I haven't gotten to see them as the core group as much as I'd like and they've blown me away the few times I did see them.
I have to hope that those guys would be allowed back in to White Denim if they wanted to be. I don't know if Billadelphia knows something other than what's been said publicly, which hasn't been much. As a musician, I just know I'd much rather be in a band where I'm fairly integral to the sound, which both of them are, rather than being a replaceable player in Leon Bridge's boring take on soul music.
On that note, if someone could take the time to explain to me what I'm missing with Leon, it would be much appreciated. Of all the soul artists playing today, he is by a huge margin the one that excites me the least. His music and lyrics I find boring boring, he lacks intensity and passion, and he's just ripping off Sam Cooke without a shred of originality. Would much rather see Charles Bradley, Nathaniel Rateliff, Sharon Jones, Anderson East, or any number of better soul artists any day of the week. But clearly I'm in the minority, so I want to know if I'm not picking up on something. Feel free to PM the responses
Curtis Harding put out a kickass record called Soul Power in 2014 that got little to no hype or anything and it blows Leon out of the water. I'm not really sure how Leon blew up as quickly as he did, but I remember when I first heard his album thinking it was a middling version of Curtis Harding.
Big Grams (3) Bully (5) CHVRCHES (5) Death Cab For Cutie (5) FIDLAR (4) J.Cole (4) Lamb of God (4) M83 (4) Purity Ring (3) Tame Impala (5) Two Door Cinema Club (2) Tyler the Creator (5) Vince Staples (4) Lolawolf (3) Twin Peaks (2)
Not bad too bad for me. I mean certain aspects of the lineup are pretty disappointing, but there's enough here that I'm pretty excited for.
Has anyone made a Spotify playlist with these artists on it yet? I need to learn some of these names. But damn every time I think about the electronic and rap on the lineup I get a little sad.
Saw this on the inforoo Facebook page
By the way, mentioned it a few times today; but I am fairly sure that the leak was missing at least one or two names besides headliners. Just no way they go from EDM being in the top few lines every year to Adventure Club/Flosstradameus being the biggest acts there. So hang tight till Tuesday before completely being bummed out.
But I'm trying to be as bummed out as possible so if there is a surprise I'll be that much happier, and if there isn't well nothing changes I'm already bummed out. I'll be that much closer to acceptance

Sounds like the band is split up for good, unfortunately. I'm reading this article now that basically talks about how this was a couple years in the making since the band basically split in two in 2014. It also said there were mixed reviews with the new lineup so I'm not feeling too good about that.
As for Leon - have you seen him live? I only knew the one album of his and I really dug it but didn't think anything amazing. When I saw him live (especially with the members of White Denim with him) he was fantastic. He's got a lot more energy than the album and owned the stage when I saw him. His stuff on SNL was very danceable and fun for the first song and beautiful ballad/slower for the second song:
Are there other soul guys who are better right now? Sure, but Leon is still really young and working his way up the ladder fast so he's doing something right. To me it's exciting to follow him and see where he goes because I'm really into his sound but we'll have to see if he can have a lengthy career or if he's just a hot thing right now.

I think a good part of this is the acknowledgement that Roo isn't the only game in town, and getting attendees (and competing for acts) isn't the same as it was even 5 years ago. They are surrounded by LARGE weekend fests on either side of the calendar for areas that were pretty fertile markets in the hey day. It's just not 2008 anymore.
If you are trying to make your booking dollar stretch, it's going to be an easier option to appeal to HS and college kids than the olds. I think all of these city, regional, and genre specific fests are making it tougher to draw the 30-something crowd for tent living on a hot farm. I think that, headliners for this year aside, they've chosen who they are targeting the fest to.
Everyone just chill...we're missing at least 7-8 acts including the headliners. If they just add the headliners then we must be getting a larger 2nd round of additions because it would mean they're reducing the amount of bands even more. Unless What is opening even later during the day this year, they're cutting late nights, or just reducing amount of acts in the tent...there still has to be a good amount of artists added to round out the lineup.
I could realistically see the existing lineup released on Tuesday with Pearl Jam, Dead & Co, LCD Soundsystem, Pretty Lights, and Beck with a copuple more 3-4th line acts being added and everyone will be much happier.
Real talk though: Am I blind / just getting old, or is there not a single punk band?
I noticed that too... The 15 year old in me was disappointed... Would it kill them to book bad religion or afi or the vandals or the offspring or pennywise or guttermouth one year?
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

Father John Misty.
Cause of his song? I see that. But that would make it the only roo clue this year that hinted at a song of an artist and not the name of the artist himself.

Nevermind i'm dumb, don't know why I thought that was true but about have point towards songs or albums.

I'll play this game. It will help really gauge my interest in the undercard. I'm using Sang's lineup order. It's fucked up, but the one I had quickest access to. Acts I'd be interested in seeing without much research...
Pearl Jam Dead & Co. LCD Soundsystem Ellie Goulding Tame Impala Ween Miguel M83 CHVRCHES Haim Chris Stapleton Big Grams Father John Misty Jason Isbell Bluegrass Situation Superjam Ft Ed Helms Leon Bridges Lord Huron Purity Ring Blood Orange Lucius Grace Potter Allen Stone Kurt Vile and The Violator Vince Staples Lettuce Mavis Staples Sam Bush Band Shamir The Wood Brothers Waxahatachee FIDLAR Natalie Prass Rayland Baxter Daughter Kamasi Washington Sara Watkins Ibeyi Bully John Moreland Chicano Batman Dungen Anderson East Beach Fossils The London Souls Roman Gianarthur Twin Peaks Con Brio Cymande Vulfpeck
So, I came up with 49. Not bad, but nothing I'm overly excited about. I wish I was seeing about half my picks at Bear Creek for half the ticket price.

didnt you say we were getting Lana?
Yes, and if you read back you can see the reasoning and justification. She will be in Nashville for production rehearsals June 8-10 for her summer tour. I was assuming she's starting the tour at Roo since the rehearsal location seemed suspicious because her last tour we worked on had rehearsals in Studio City, which is the norm for most LA-based artists.

That's just your opinion, right? You have nothing legit to back that up? Because you seem pretty confident that Bonnaroo for some reason decided to withhold the top seven or eight instead of just the headliners...

I'd be very happy with any of them but afi. Never liked them. But I had such a blast at Against Me! It was my first pit in probably 7 or 8 years. But it reminded me exactly of why I loved it growing up.

I would put myself in the camp of those who were slightly disappointed when the lineup leaked, and after sleeping on it I was even more so, only thinking there were a dozen or so acts outside of the headliners that I really wanted to see this year. I spent today listening to all of the bands and artist I haven't heard before and was able to discover a lot of new stuff that I would definitely go to barring conflicts. I actually came up with about 30 acts I think would be a lot of fun and even some discoveries like fidlar, blood orange and vulfpeck that I would put in my can't miss folder. Certainly not the strongest undercard, or even a very good one, but I think it compares to last year while having headliners I actually care about seeing. I could lament the fact we aren't seeing Hot Chip, Les Claypool, Judas Priest, Portugal. The Man, Grimes or any number of really good electronic or out of left-field acts but not a year goes by that I wasn't wishing for something more. Par for the course really.
bold acts are ones i've seen before would see:(30) adventure club bully borns chicano batman civil twilight clutch con brio cymande dungen ellie goulding flux capacitor goldlink grace potter haim halsey hermitude hundred waters ilbeyi kamasi washington the knocks lettuce lizzo the london souls lucius macklemore & ryan lewis marian hill papadosio rl grime saint motel shamir
really excited about:(18) pearl jam dead & co. lcd soundsystem allen stone big grams blood orange cashmere cat chvrches fidlar the floozies griz m83 purity ring st. lucia tame impala vulfpeck ween zeds dead
I only ever manage to make it to 20 - 25 acts each year (with a couple of exceptional years I hit around 30) and it doesn't look like I will be too short of that this year either. I know the scheduling gods will smite me for thinking I won't have conflicts for 60% of my most favorite acts but if I even hit 50% of the total I have listed, I will probably run out of steam before I run out of music that I like.
I agree with everyone who has noted that the EDM, hip hop and nostalgia bookings are really weak this year. However, the headliners are exceptionally strong (this is the first of my 11 years that I have been excited about all 3) considering what we've gotten from the last 3 years as Paul McCartney was the only real highlight since 2012 for me.
I live close, buy presale and do groop camping so I understand that I'm a little more fortunate than most when it comes to getting my moneys worth out of this festival so it is still a good value for me and a great way for me to see my friends that I only get to see once a year. I understand that this lineup will sour many peoples views on Bonnaroo as a whole, but it doesn't have to. Its easy to have high expectations and conversely, its easy to be let down by reality. The festival scene is changing (for better or for worse) and Bonnaroo is not immune to it, but I try not to have a fatalist view on the matter and instead see it ebb and flow with the times. We can all be happy that Widespread Panic isn't headlining two straight nights and that the portos aren't full by Friday afternoon with no one to clean them out in sight. Sure... it costs a lot of money, its hard and some of the music is pretty uninspired, but dammit if it isn't still my favorite 4-5 days of the year. And try as they might, LiveNation and the Big Capp Dog haven't spoiled it for me yet.
Real talk though: Am I blind / just getting old, or is there not a single punk band?

Someone else mentioned them already, but you should check out FIDLAR.
I think there's indeed a possibility of more than our three headliners being added - when insider has shown up in the past, hasn't she sometimes considered the top four or five to be "headliners"? Honestly I think if anything we'll just get Pretty Lights at #4 if we get more than PJ/D&C/LCD during the lineup drop on Tuesday.
My rather short list of artists I'm interested in:
LCD Soundsystem Dead & Co Allen Stone Big Grams Death Cab for Cutie Father John Misty FIDLAR Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Miguel RL Grime Tame Impala Two Door Cinema Club Ween
Of these, LCD and Macklemore are the only ones I'd say I'm genuinely excited for. Everyone else I've either seen before or am just a little meh about. There's a lot of artists I'm not familiar with though so I'm sure this list will get longer.
