Halsey and Leon Bridges on Thursday would be disastrous.
People said the same thing about Tove Lo and it turned out just fine ... I'm probably underestimating Halsey's popularity considering her billing at Coachella, but to me she's a perfect Thursday headliner. Leon Bridges has one album, as popular as it may be...I think giving him too high of a slot would be equally "disastrous."

Bonnaroo has abandoned the idea of a curated lineup, instead booking straight down the middle, the same pop-indie, bro-EDM you can find at any other (smaller/less expensive) festival. Its dismal, and anyone satisfied with this line-up is part of the problem. I have to assume these are first or second timers who don't see that much live music to begin with.
I dig the lineup so far. This is a lame opinion that is inaccurate and offensive.
I consider myself a music snob, in school for it, and gone to too 6 years and 5 different fests. This is my favorite undercard to date probably because of my age, 21. A lot of these bands are big up and comers in the online social scene, or were bands that were important in our formative adolescent years. Like death cab. And then there's other popular bands like two door who aren't a radio band, but popular to people who actually care about music enough to go out of their way to discover it. This festival has what I personally want, and what I think others my age want that are into music. If I want to delve into an interesting artists catalog, I can do that at home and discuss it with friends, and maybe catch their solo tour. Where when my age they seem to want three things from a festival: go for a fun party (generic edm), cool and hip but not super massive bands (tame impala), and some different chill acts that would be hard to see (vulfpeck). Surprisingly, my demographic doesn't seem to care much about headliners, expect when they are rap or hip hop based. It definitely seems like my age group is going for the experience instead of the specific artist. I was a part of a research team that looked at preferences of CMA fest goers. Now this isn't Roo, but these fans were indifferent about the lineup, they went because they enjoyed the theme of their music scene, and wanted to be in an epicenter of people who also enjoyed their similar tastes. I can show you the data if you'd like. I think this may be similar to the brand Bonnaroo is successfully promoting. Overall, so far, this is the most wide spread positive response I've seen on my social media since I've been attending music fests, from music snobs to illiterates.
Jesus Christ what a load. "Popular to people who actually care about music enough to go out of their way to discover it" is not what this lineup is. It's more like "popular to people who like to think they care about music enough to go out of their way to discover it." It's like someone was listening to Young the Giant on Spotify and clicked the "artists similar to" link. I'm fine with people liking this lineup, more power to you if this is your kind of thing, but to try and characterize it as some lineup that you can only appreciate if you "actually care about music enough" is just fucking absurd.

i really thought i was going to find more in the bands i didn't know..... i found maybe 3 i'll go see. most of the unknowns to me need to stay this way. my opinion of this lineup be changin

It's definitely real. It's definitely intentional. Cause I mean, how does a leak happen on the app that just happens to have everything except the headliners? The real question is did they hold back more than the headliners. We sure hope so.

You do realize that festival lineups have been unintentionally leaked on apps before, right? This isn't unprecedented.
So I've been going through listening to the bands I haven't heard from this lineup, and what really gets me about it is the sheer amount of bands on this lineup that only have one or two albums under their belt. Even some of the bands with hits like X-Ambassadors and Borns only have one or two notable songs. And even the bigger names like Ellie Goulding or J. Cole or Macklemore have only been around about 5 years or so.
I live near Lollapalooza and it's basically the same type of lineup they've been putting together the past few years. A few legacy, can't-miss headliners, and a bunch of really hit-and-miss modern stuff. I've been going to Lolla the past four years and I can basically get there at like 5pm every day because the first half of the day is unknown/new bands that can barely fill a half hour set.
Some of the bands I haven't heard in this lineup are pretty good after checking out a few tracks, but I don't drive across the country for that. I get that they're trying to appeal to the younger crowd but then why get those headliners?
This happened to me last year. I ended up just staying up all night doing Christmas Barn, Kalliope, The Grove, etc. and then waking up in the afternoon. I just don't care to keep up with the latest iTunes commercial hipster pop. Nor do I feel like I'm missing out by not seeing Bleachers or whatever.

I actually do think it might of been intentional for the reason the headliners aren't on there. If they were testing the app and it accidentally went live, why did they leave names off?
No I'm hoping they left a few other names off. Not expecting it. Maybe there's a decent #4 and a big EDM left off. But I'm not counting on it. And to be honest, that wouldn't be enough unless it's like Beck or Justice. Then I might go for the top 5

An educated guess by who? Are you suggesting that someone other than an AC employee who knows the lineup would've been able to update the artist page on the app?
Just to clarify, this "leak" isn't some image floating around the internet. People stumbled upon the leaked names while using the Bonnaroo app.

It is puzzling why the headliners were left off, and we could be lacking a few extra names, but the leak is real dude.

No idea. But why would they have the entire lineup up on the app minus the headliners? Were the headliners not completely locked in? I've heard that it does come down to the wire like that sometimes. So I guess that's possible. Other than that, I have no explanation.

It's possible there are a few other names missing from the "leak" but perhaps they add the headliners in last? Maybe they add them in a different way because they are in fact different from the rest of the lineup. There are a number of reasons that they could have left the headliners out of the lineup that was leaked.

But I do have to say I like the completely unrealistic but humorous idea of the worst 20 acts on this leak somehow being wrong (aka not going to be there) and thus entirely used for the merit of their terrible quality. "Don't worry Roo, we wouldn't actually give you THESE GUYS!"

maybe because AC knows their app designer is a nincompoop based on prior years leaks, so they decided not to give him the names of the largest acts with the most powerful representation because it was more likely than not he would hit the wrong button again and release the lineup?

They obviously are testing the lineup on the hard core fans who frequent this message board year round to see if it's accepted and will ensure good vibez before deciding to let it ride or finalize the ink on the contracts for the big acts between LCD and Ellie Goulding.
