Going to see Bully for the third time in the past 6 months tonight.
Bully fucking rules.
February 1 here. First time though. Plus, show was only $10.
Nice! I saw them here for free back in October at one of our smallest venues and at P4K last July. Where are you seeing them? You really can't beat the cheap prices for such great, yet vastly under-appreciated bands. They could be under-appreciated forever for all I care. Cheap shows, good times, lots o' love, only the people who wanna be there will be there, etc, etc, etc.
Chris Stapelton is gonna be awesome at around 4 or 5 in the afternoon on What
I remember Zac Brown Band around 10 on Thursday night back in 2009. It was fucking magical. Different kind of country, but Im hoping hes on a later in the evening slot personally.
The part that's confusing me the most is how many electronic artists are playing and how no rock bands are playing. Bonnaroo seems like the new EDC with this lineup. Adventure Club Big Grams (electronic indie/rap) Cashmere Cat CHVRCHES (electronic indie) The Floozies Flosstrodamus GriZ Hermitude Hundred Waters (electronic-ish) Keys & Krates The Knocks M83 (electronic dream pop) Papadosio Purity Ring (electronic indie) RL Grime Zeds Dead That's 15-16 electronic artists, that's ridiculous to me, yes a lot I do like and happy to see but it's about balance, there's hardly any rap, especially anyone good in that field just Tyler and Vince, but that's debatable. There's barely any bands though and NO legacy acts, like wtf? What bands do we have that the general audience would know Death Cab FIDLAR (most people don't know, more punk) Kurt Vile (most people don't know) Lamb of God Tame Impala Third Eye Blind
That's it, that's nothing, that's shit 4-6 rock bands... Other than that it's pop indie acts like St. Lucia and Two Door Cinema Club. Not that those are bad. But how can a festival that used to be so Rock and Jam oriented have no rock bands

Doesn't make sense to me
Rock is becoming a niche genre, as much as it pains me to say. If you're big into rock/indie, odds are you're probably going to Shaky Knees.

And a good chunk of it is the worst kind of electronic. Like, Adventure Club, really?!

Gasa Gasa, it is a relatively newer venue. It holds 250 on a good day. I saw Man Man, Diarrhea Planet and Cloud Nothings there. I love that venue for the inexpensive shows and how close you are to the action.

What especially doesn't make sense about it is they're having motherfucking PEARL JAM headline, one of the biggest rock bands of the past 30 years, and then they have barely anything else in terms of rock. Who are they trying to appeal to?
Sidenote I am currently listening to Flux Capacitor from the leak, and they are actually pretty great. Progressive/jammy rock, they kind of remind me of Umphrey's. Their vocalist sounds like a second rate Anthony Kiedis though

roo booking the likes of Caribou, Flume, STS9, Darkside, Four Tet, Flylo, SBTRKT, Jamie XX, Classixx, and Porter in the past spoiled me I guess. Was really hoping we'd get electronic of similar caliber.

That's one of the most offensive parts of the lineup.
May Tycho May Phoenix June Rooo July MMJ and Margo Price August Queen with Adam Lambert August Roger Waters (Bucket list #1) August Spoon and Portugal the man Sept Depeche Mode Sept Pilgrimage Fest
This is finally the year where all the friends I've petitioned to come with me are finally on board.
The worst part is, as entry-level concert goers, they're ecstatic.
And I'm over here like, "wait..."
I don't actually think it's that bad, though. Like others have said, 4-12 is just missing something. And can someone point out the "cool" EDM to me? Is it not there at all, or am I missing it? I'm speaking of acts like Caribou, Jamie xx, Four Tet, Panda Bear, etc.
However, any weekend where I can see LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala, FJM, M83 is a great weekend to me.

Clutch is fine. But I have a feeling the average attending person won't know who they are. That's what I'm saying. Like FIDLAR and Kurt Vile too most people don't know that name. There's like no names that I feel would catch the eye of people who would want to look to attend a music festival. The only ones I see is Third eye blind and Tame Impala and Lamb of God (but that's more metal)

Papadosio is a phenomenal jam band. They are not electronic music.

I would say jamtronic. More like disco biscuits or some of Umphrey's Mcgee's stuff
It seems like all the booking thought went to indie pop and folk/americana. I've noticed the trend for a few years now, maybe that's just what kids listen to nowadays.
I feel like I'm just in between the two core Bonnaroo demographics. Young hipsters who think they know a lot about music (but really just listen to shitty indie pop) and older folks who go for the 12pm-9pm time slots of americana and folk. Either that or all my favorite bands from the 90s are dead or quit music.

Yuppy, I'm just doing my best to make Levitation happen because Pearl Jam is literally the ONLY rock band that leaked for a bonnaroo that I like that I haven't seen before.
