I'm curious about about how unknown an act can be for them to get a set in a tent. Just going off spotify plays, I can't imagine some of these acts getting anything but a side stage.
For example, The London Souls most popular song has ~86,000 plays, Con Brio's has ~40,000, and Flux Capacitor's has less than 2,500 plays. I don't really know what to compare it to but All Them Witches played on a side stage last year and their most popular song on Spotify has ~960,000 plays. Also I just looked up a random band I've never heard of from last year's lineup, A Thousand Horses, who played the Who stage/sonic stage, and their most popular song has 15,000,000 plays.
This, coupled with the fact that a lot of the bands on this lineup that I've never heard of happen to be based around Nashville, has me convinced a good portion of these bands from the leak are the club stage acts (which are announced separately from the main lineup)
at least I sure hope so
EDIT: and for further reference, the lowest billed name on the initial 2015 poster (besides Unlocking the Truth, who isn't on spotify), Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas, have ~427,000 plays on their most popular song

They had the #1 country song in the country the week of Bonnaroo. ("Smoke") In this case they were a) country and b) booked months prior to the start of their commercial success and c) most of their listens came close to or after the festival. (The set was still pretty sparsely attended.)

well that skews things of course, and obviously I have no way of looking at how popular these bands were back before June 2015. all I'm saying is if we were to assume this is the final lineup, I'm seeing a massive difference in popularity/name-recognition of the bottom half of the lineup from this year even compared to last year. So much so that I have a hard time believing that it's complete

What's your estimation on how many of these bands are from Nashville? I'm to lazy to do the research but since you've already looked into it...
Read nothing into Spotify play counts of bands in similar positions on the line up between years. If you're going to a festival, and there are a bunch of bands that you've never heard of, what do you do? When the schedule comes out, and you see periods of time that you don't recognize some acts that play opposed bands you don't care for, what do you do? The line up has yet to officially come out, therefore these lower billed bands have yet to be absorbed by the masses who plan to attend Bonnaroo. Write those numbers down. Come back to them in 2-3 months time. I bet they'll have risen exponentially.

I dunno. I didn't really research, I just noticed some of them were, like Bully, Anderson East, Rayland Baxter, Judah & The Lion. I don't know if it means anything either, since I know a lot of the club acts from last year were not local.
The other thing I'm noticing is the large amount of bands here that only have one album (or even just an EP). These are the sorts of "up and coming" bands they usually put on those stages.

All hope is lost. This is happening.
See the thing is, I try to keep up on music. I follow new releases, I check who's playing at my local venues, even check out their songs if they're playing a night I'm bored.
Last year, there were only 18 names I didn't recognize on the initial lineup the day it was released. From this leak, it's 37. I realize that's only my personal experience and maybe I'm suddenly out of the loop when it comes to what's popular. But I refuse to believe these are the acts they're going to be giving main stage or even tent sets to.
Oh, and I don't go to Centeroo until the first band of the afternoon that I actually care about, and I assume most people do the same. Morning/early afternoon is about chilling at the campsite with the new friends around us. I'm assuming they want people to get to Centeroo and start paying $8 per beer, so they should definitely have acts the general public cares about during the day

This is the same story with me. Many of these acts do seem liked they'd fit on the smaller cafe stages over the main 5, but maybe Bonnaroo is really emphasizing an initiative to push on what they deem as up and comers? I really don't know. I've been coming to terms with what we have and found a few artists that I liked, but overall, it's extremely lacking. Many of these newer acts just come off as second-rate knockoffs of already prominently established artists to me, especially regarding the alternative/indie scene. As for the electronic and hip hop? I don't know what the fuck happened here. Through what we have on the leaked lineup, the big question I have is what makes it so special for a 15th year anniversary? During their Reddit AMA last year, they really seemed genuinely dead set on making this year "special". So far, I'm just not seeing that. They even stated that they started book way earlier than usual to prepare for this year (I'm well aware it could have been a hype tactic). If it isn't a deep lineup of phenomenal acts, could it be that they spent a bulk of their funds on site improvements or some new art installations that they may be creating on the farm? Maybe more parades, surprise sets, and maybe other new various farm activities? Did adding a water supply and building bathroom facilities cut into their budget? Fuck man, I wish I knew. I know theorizing and complaining isn't helping or going to change anything, but I do think I should be getting a bang for my buck, especially now that they've raised the prices of tickets and added on a car fee. Still going to enjoy my time like I always do, but this may be my last year attending, and then throw in the Roo towel.
Although very unlikely at this point, I hope we all look stupid come Tuesday night, but I think this is what we're going to get. Let's see what happens on Tuesday, and if that doesn't deliver, let's hold out hope that they announced some unexpected additions and maybe some cool new activities that live up to their promise of this year being special over the next couple of months.
Also, I'm very curious to see the reaction of the casual Roo'ers that don't spend time on festival boards and Reddit when the official lineup drops Tuesday night.

Most people go to Bonnaroo for the vibez.
There's enough notable names on the line up to throw up some acts on the which and what to begin the hearding of the masses into centeroo at noon. And by the time June rolls around, people will convince themselves that they're excited for these unfamiliar acts that they'll drag themselves out of their campsites at 12:30 on Friday in the scorching heat, and eat all the spicy pie and drink all the craft beer they can along the way.
I get what you're saying, but the truth is, denial is just the first step friend.
I havent been to roo since 2011, so it might be fair to say I am out of touch with what constitutes a good bonnaroo lineup nowadays, but I'll just chime in anyway.
IMO this bonnaroo's best set of headliners in a LONG time. Pearl Jam's 08 show I think is still considered one of the 5 best headliner shows ever at Roo. This is the first Dead-related show at Roo since the Phil Lesh/ Kanye fiasco from 08, and a LCD reunion show is huge.
Many people think the undercard is lacking, but really its not too far off from other years with people still saying "waaaaaah" this isnt as good as this other fest's lineup, therefore this lineup sucks! I mean really if you dont have that many must see acts on this year, take the time to explore the lineup and discover some new artists. All 5 times I've been to Roo, my favorite set of the weekend was a previously unknown act for me. Bonnaroo more than any other big fest is known for launching lesser-known artists into a higher tier of popularity.
But what about this undercard is so lacking? I thought Father John Misty, Tame Impala, Miguel, Vince Staples, ChVrches, m83, shamir, purity ring were all pretty favorable with inforoo? Are Kurt Vile, Death Cab, Big Boi + Phantogram, Clutch, Grace Potter, and FUCKING WEEN nothing to get excited about? Kamasi Washington put out one of the most impressive albums last year! When was the last time Dungen played bonnaroo? 2006???
Also this is pretty fucking great.
Maybe lots of people are disappointed just because so many of the awesome gets were figured out before the lineup leak, and there just arent that many surprises?
I haven't taken the time to read all 44 pages of this thread, so all of my arguments for this being at least a decently good lineup have probably already been discussed. But I'll just close by saying for the fifth year in a row I can't make it to Roo because I'll be overseas, but this is a lineup that I'd personally be excited for.

Main problems with this lineup: 1. Weak top lines aside from headliners. 2. Absolutely abysmal electronic lineup. 3. A ton of artists that would likely play on Thursday or open tents. 4. Ton of mediocre artists in general. 5. Not worth the higher price tag.

I took all the bands from Roo, Coachella, and Shakey Knees that I would see based on personal name recognition, zero hype or discovery. I rated headliners out of 10, undercard bands out of 5. Shakey Knees had a score of 75, Coachella 72, Bonnaroo 54. For me, the bottom line is that I have never seen a poster with so many unkown acts, and meh acts. THUR 2013 I saw Walk the moon, Django Django, Japandroids, Alt J, Vaccines. THUR! Great depth that year. At what point do you quit putting effort into 'Up and Coming' acts, if they don't book acts that 'Are There'.
I think a problem with the better known acts that were booked is that they just booked the ones that were expected. There's nothing interesting going on in this lineup. There's something severely wrong when the most exclusive acts booked for your fest are Macklemore, Third Eye Blind and Lamb of God.

I used last year's schedule to make a complete mock of the five main stages for all four days (that I probably won't end up actually posting), but there were only 8 spots I couldn't fill with the names that were leaked. I'm thinking we may get a few extra names tomorrow but if we do I'm not expecting anything big at all, and if we don't these spots could be filled with the small additions they do in Spring.
Edit- I miscounted, it was 7, and I added a LN Which for Friday so the number would actually be 6. Also it looks like other people have done this already so oh well lol

For me it's more of a question of value. Sure, there are bands I'd like to see in there but so much of the leak is populated by bands that would play $10 bar shows, if they'd charge anything at all. Opening act-caliber bands that don't have the material to play longer than even a half hour.
Where are the established bands that you'd expect to pay $30-50 for a show to see? You've got Miguel, Ellie Goulding, J Cole, Macklemore, Tame Impala, Clutch, Death Cab, maybe CHVRCHES, Big Grams, Ween. There just isn't a whole lot of the upper-middle acts. The kinds that have you say "wow I get to see all these in one place?" Plus, many of the bands you listed are constantly touring, and always on the festival circuit. Is Tame Impala awesome? Sure, but this'll be my fourth time seeing them in just three years, and that's even skipping a show or two I could've gone to.
Don't get me wrong, I think cheap bands can be just as enjoyable as expensive bands, but they upped the price big time over the past two years. I'm not driving across the country to see a bunch of no-names in a field, no matter how much I end up enjoying their show. I live near Chicago, there are plenty of small regional festivals that put together lineups like this throughout the year for significantly less cost.
