Usher w/The Roots in the R. Kelly spot seems like an absolute no-brainer. So, if they did play, you could probably pencil them into a damn tent pre-HL.
With the possibility of Chance playing, Im trying to get into his music and I just can't. I've only listened to Coloring Book...is there something else he's done I should check out? Suggestions?
I'm also not a fan of most of Coloring Book. But Acid Rap is fantastic

i appreciate your pessimism, but the last time The Roots played they were on the What stage late afternoon/early evening. I'd expect similar placement for The Roots and Usher.

Yeah, realistically that's where they'd end up.
But just think about Confessions Pt. 2 at 1:30 in the morning. Looking up at the stars. Thinking of your ex lady. What's she up to? Man, I really shouldn't have had that illegitimate child with my side chick. I have no money. Everyone hates me. I don't know what to do, except to give part two of my confessions.

I wouldn't necessarily be so sure since R Kelly is undoubtly bigger than The Roots but got LN Which the next year. I think it has more to do with who else is on the schedule any given year. 2012 was an interesting year for Pre HL's as you had Rodrigo & Gabriella as the Pre-HL for Radiohead the night before The Roots > RHCP and unless I'm completely mistaken about their popularity, there hasn't been a Pre HL as small as them since.
My only problem with the idea of The Roots & Usher as a ln which is that I'm expecting that to be Chance's spot unless he's the pre hl for The Weeknd.
Perhaps they go back to having multiple late night Which's each night?

Few things... Roots are not small at all. Chance will probably Pre-Headline but not for The Weeknd. Roo rarely (unless it's tent acts) has artists with the same or similar genre pre-headline for a headliner. This is one of the more common things I see on this board and I just don't know why. It's one of my few pet peeves
Yeah, a lot of times that is the case, but they do shows where they (almost) just their songs and they're just as great, but it's only that good if you're into them and really know their music. But I like their party sets. Them at Bear Creek 2013 is still one of my favorite shows I've ever been to.

Acid Rap
Worlds better than Coloring Book imo, my favorite hip hop/rap album and one of my all time favorites.

I wouldn't say worlds better. Both are good. I find Chance to be a little overrated over all. Still great and I love many of his songs. I just don't find him to be the amazing rapper that people say he is. I do think Acid Rap is better thougb
I think Acid Rap is the correct starting place if you're getting into Chance the Rapper. Coloring Book is still a great and fun album. But it's like if I were trying to get someone into Kanye I wouldn't start them off with Life of Pablo.

I truly love the roots a lot but they aren't nearly as big as most of the artists that Roo has as Pre-HL's. Just look at their placement at North coast 2015 or this years summercamp. Do they deserve a Pre-HL? Absolutely. Are they as big as R-Kelly or Usher? No. This is another case of this board loving a band more than the general festival crowd does. If chance doesn't get LN which then the roots and usher would be perfect for that spot.
Hey broham11 so I got bored and needed some mindless introvert time. So while I was just laying around listening to music, I took your mock schedule and changed a bunch of things around to my liking. I aimed for realism, but there's some heavy bias towards my music tastes. The stuff in black is basically my stuff that I'm confident in, and everything in purple is mostly your stuff that I'm not so familiar with. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rmNVu-bX0w46nqONCg5CE-nvGqa0mnNhd2We--GW89M/edit?usp=sharing
I could see them playing Northside, but I would feel pretty shitty as a promoter if two top fests(most likely Chella and Lolla) nabbed them on their return and they missed out. But then again they didn't get Outkast so....there's that.
I have a theory that when a band repeats as a headliner, their second shows are usually received more poorly. Radiohead, Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam. Phish, Phil Lesh, WSP and Tom Petty didn't seem to be any better received when they returned, either.
My point here is that the Chili Peppers received a pretty "meh" reception the first time around. I'm not sure that anyone should set their hopes up too high for their return performance, even if they're a bucket list band for you.

I don't think anybody is. Although if George Clinton is on the lineup I'll have my fingers crossed he joins them:
