U2 made 76 million in the US on 10 cities/36 shows, and 152 million globally on 22 cities/76 shows.
The Weeknd made 24.3 million in the US based on 20 cities/23 shows, and 24.3 million globally on 20 cities/23 shows .
Both are in high demand, so Roo nabbed two relevant acts, that will undoubtedly sell tickets on the farm. U2 will be about 2 million. The Weeknd averaged about 1.2 million a show. The undercard shouldn't be hindered as much as it was this year.

How much did Roo pay for Sir Paul? Would this be the most money (including RHCP) that Roo has shelled out for a top 3 ever?

U2 is probably 2.1 million, RHCP is probably 1.5 million, and Weeknd is 1.2 million. Damn....it would actually be on par with 2016's headliner costs.

That makes me think there was some really bad negotiating going on if they spent this much last year on headliners. That's mind-blowing.
I wouldn't really call it bad negotiating. Dead and Co are expensive, Pearl Jam is Pearl Jam, and LCD was charging that reunion upcharge.
I have nothing to base this off of but I have hard time seeing U2 at 2 mill a show for their first ever American festival shows. Seems low. I would have guessed 3-4.

There's someone on the inforoo facebook who keeps insisting that last year, AC and Live Nation both thought the other was in charge of booking so neither of them did, and they got a wicked late start on making the lineup, hence the terrible undercard.
I don't think it's true, but it's funny to think about.

I like to imagine it's true and they did a really slow mo "ohhhh nooooo" in sync when they realized this
Maybe they'll announce the headliners along with the presale this year.
i would think something like this could be possible, not that electric forest is much of a measure for roo but they're supposed to be putting out headliners within the next two weeks as well prior to presale for their first two weekend year

I've never understood why North American festivals didn't take the European approach and release the lineup in bits and pieces. Rock Werchter for example release a headliner every week or two around this time of year. It gets the hype going early, and keeps it constant. What's everyone's take on this?

Its one of the things that keeps me going back to Newport, every Monday Wednesday Friday morning for months getting a new artist I've either never heard of or are really excited about
