Journey drew 35k (per Sang) at Music Midtown. That was just about 10k shy of Bonnaroo's total attendance this year (according to that guy's vendor friend)
I would be infinitely happy if we subbed Bob Seger or Fleetwood instead of Aerosmith. I'll probably see Aerosmith next year anyway. The girlfriend is a big fan. We are going to see Def Leppard and REO in a few weeks. I'd say the farewell tour will hit the same venue.

Journey would be better than Billy Joel.
Considering that I went to Gretna Fest for the first time in my life a few years ago for Foreigner, I would agree. I would have gone for Journey as well and I fucking hate Gretna Fest. Fucking glorified state fair, IMO.
It's not that I hate Aerosmith or anything. I just can't think of a classic rock band I'd be less excited for than fucking Aerosmith.
This exactly, although I do hate them.
I actually mentioned something along these lines in a different thread but I think Get A Grip era is what really done it for a lot of people in the 90s. Not only were most of those singles trash, you couldn't fucking escape them. That was followed up by that stupid song from Armageddon.

I was in 6th grade when their album "Nine Lives" came out, with the single "Pink". I became absolutely obsessed with them for some reason. That year I decorated my desk with Aerosmith and The Wallflowers knick knacks and magazine cutouts, and had a plan where I was going to adopt 4 boys and name them Steven, Tyler, Jakob, and Dylan.

The return with Permanent Vacation and the follow up Pump got me into Aerosmith. That and I was obsessed with the Walk This Way video with Run DMC as a wee lad. I also got handed down an LP of Rocks and that opener Last Child was killer. Everything went downhill for me after Get A Grip and I can't take Steven Tyler seriously anymore, especially after his stint as a judge on American Idol. I don't think I'd go see them if I had a free ticket.

This was what got me into Aerosmith for a hot minute as well. Once Get A Grip came out it was done, plus I found "better" music. I can't look at Steven Tyler without seeing a grandma anymore.
No way would they headline. Bob Seger would stand a better chance even
I could 100% see Coachella booking them as a headliner though
I don't see it. They are British though, so that ups the chances of Coachella booking a reunion. It just doesn't seem like an act they would go after like Stone Roses and they don't have the hits like a GNR. Anyways, Dire Straits are never ever getting back together again. I saw Knopfler open for Dylan once. It was good, but lacked any real flair.

Agreed. I feel like Aerosmith is one of those bands every boy gets hooked on when they discover classic rock in high school. Then you go to college and stop listening to them once you realize there's much better music waiting to be discovered. Or maybe I'm just speaking from personal experience.
I get what you mean. I certainly went through stages like that. I also agree with what's been said above. They have some good material on Rocks, Toys in the Attack and Pump.
My theory is what worked against Aerosmith was partly bad timing. They didn't suffer financially but releasing Get A Grip during the mainstream rise of Hip-hop and Grunge didn't do them any favors with the youth at the time. I think it was a combo of the timing, the oversatation and the weak ass material that kinda backfired and hurt their rep with younger generations.

What the fuck, right?
That's funny. I was just trying to remember what happened to my copy of Nine Lives. I let some girl at my Summer job borrow it. Maybe I should try to find her on Facebook and demand to get it back? That wouldn't be weird, right?
Ideal (possible) Sunday headliners? And go! Obviously Roger Waters. Fleetwood Mac or Bob Seger would be at the top of my list as well. Paul Simon would be good but I'd see him more of 4th or 5th on the lineup. I'd love the cure as well.

This is where I put in the scary, contrary argument that Phish should be on that list. Because even though they are everywhere touring, seemingly all the time, they are a consistent audience getter/while satisfying the smooth it out Sunday theme. I just don't know if Bonnaroo is willing to drop as much money necessary on any of those acts. Hall & Oates also calls out to me, but somehow I feel like they'd end up getting Lionel Richie'd

Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon playing Graceland, Phish, Neil Young, Cure

Phish makes the most sense to me for next year, 100%

Phish would be a good one cause they wouldn't be number one. Meaning we could get somebody epic like Radiohead or Jay-Z or Beyoncé
