Black Keys played 2010 then was top 4 in 2011, Mumford played in 2010, 2011, was booked for 2013.
Florence could totally play next year.
The Black Keys were billed 28th in 2010 and blew up over the following year from the success of Brothers. Mumford came back in 2011 after their popularity exploded the previous year. I think they played an early afternoon tent show in 2010 and closed the Which in 2011. They also performed unreleased songs from Babel during their 2011 set.
Florence was 5th and pre-headlined in 2015. Unless she's planning on releasing a new album between now and next summer, I highly doubt they would bring her back so soon.
Florence could easily play next year. Everyone knows Beyonce would be the type of pull they need after a disappointing selling year. Sunday seems like the easiest day for them to book because expectations stay low.
And even for a festival that seems to like to waste money on mediocre mid-liners - there HL set-up hasn't really changed too much. Fairly popular Fri / Sat HL (which includes Bruce, because they were capitalizing on the increasing popularity of festivals); and a smoother Sun finisher. I don't see why they would waste money on Muse, if they are such a high booking cost, but not nearly as popular in the US - is there some Muse song that's incredibly popular right now? Because what that type of booking fee, they are probably number 1 on a lineup. I can see Arcade Fire, I can see Beck slipping into the HL spot because of the large catalog and general appeal, and while Aerosmith will make me gag: how long does any festival have to book that band before that's just pure crust? Same applies to the Rolling Stones. They both have enough pull in the older audience, and the curious to just "see an act" music lovers that ritualistically attend the festival.
I totally expect a Drake or a Future (against all my personal wills) in our futures. But Foo Fighters exhausted their run the last two years. NOBODY thinks it's a good idea to have GnR/AC/DC debacle... good lord that's like throw money into a fire pit to see if it's bright enough to be interesting.

This far away from the festival, I'm allowing us to all dream of a positive outcome, because if they don't pull their head out of their ass in the coming years - they are really going to have issues surviving as a major festival in the US.

i could very well be wrong on this, but i think that some of muses current high booking cost is due to their insane stage set up for arenas. which they wouldnt have at festivals. maybe that doesnt make a difference but just a thought.
It would have been a really cool booking this year, but if Bonnaroo somehow pulls off getting the Gorillaz next year, they should get Damon to bring the Orchestra Of Syrian Musicians as well. Looks like a really neat show and it's pretty powerful considering a lot of people's current views of refugees from that area.
Of course Trump might be president by then so they probably wouldn't be allowed to enter the country.
I could see Beck headline in a semi dual headline position ala MMJ>AF, but I don't see him straight headlining. He really is a pre-headliner. 10 years ago I would have said he would have made a great latenight which, but I can't really see them booking him there these days.
Come on, this isn't Hangout. Besides, we both know that even if roo was trying become that type of fest, they would blow it and not get three names that would sell that well.
Drake - Arcade Fire - Florence and the Machine - Beck
I'm trying not to shoot for the stars, after this year
I'd like this, but people would probably lose their shit over Drake being the highest billed artist.
But to be honest, I'd have so much fun if Drake were a headliner. I might even try for pit if nothing else was that day.
Have you seen Drake before? I caught him when he headlined ACL. It was alright, but the extent of the fun was that everyone in the entire crowd knew 99% of the words. It wasn't so much that Drake was doing anything special. In fact, at one point, he literally just put on a streak of like 4-5 recordings in a row and ran around stage without saying a word into the mic.
Also, it really bugged me that he had some live instrumentation, BUT hid the musicians (while they were playing) away on the sides of the stage.

I'd guess after this year they'll be gunning for safe bets for big acts to bring people back.
But didn't they do safe bets this year like Ellie Goulding to draw people in?
Ellie Goulding would've been perfect had the lineup been better and the headliners more universally appealing. Even though the headliners were the best part, they weren't good in attracting a ton of people. Pearl Jam had just finished a big U.S. tour with a lot of dates in the Southeast, Dead & Co. were struggling in filling up arenas and LCD just wasn't popular enough.
There's no way bonnaroo would book the weeknd AND drake. It will probably be one or the other.
I would rather Weeknd than Drake any day if we have to have one or the other. Drake was one of the worst shows that I ever had to sit through waiting for Street Sweeper Social Club a few years ago at Voodoo.

Eh, Drake would be Top 3 and Weeknd could be #4. Feasible. ACL had Drake, The Weeknd, and Future all on the lineup just this past year. Drake was #2, Weeknd was #5 (technically #4 since Florence and Strokes alternated weekends/were both #3), and Future was a couple rows down.
That being said, I really don't want both the Weeknd and Drake, let alone one of them.
