I'm a bit biased because BSS is my favorite band, so missing them would be like not breathing for the whole festival.
I love Anderson .Paak and that conflict feels like a punch in the gut, but Brian Wilson is going to be very special.
Sounds good!
Ah, well, yeah for someone not super familiar with their music that doesn't really sell me away from those other two acts haha. But yeah, I really will have to talk to my brother about it and see what we can figure out for that set. Because I do really want to see Brian Wilson, but I've been swooning over .Paak for awhile now.
Also, you can just assume that I'm always gonna be at Pitchfork. This'll be by 8th P4K.
Awesome! This is my first. I had no plans to go, but four of my all-time favs (BSS, Sufjan, Brian Wilson and FKA twigs) are all playing, and considering I have a free place to stay in Chicago, I couldn't pass up the chance.

Oh then hell yeah, fair enough. I've been staying with the same person for free since '08, so I completely understand. It's such a great little fest and it's really easy to navigate. Having sets bounce back and forth between Red and Green is super convenient and often makes getting a good spot really easy and the Blue stage is a perfect respite from the sun. I fuckin' love it.
I should have clarified that EO/Kamasi isn't even a conflict for me anymore since they shuffled around the set times. As such, here's my schedule as it stands:
F: Car Seat Headrest/Whitney/Moses Sumney/CRJ/Broken Social Scene/Beach House
Sat: CDY/Girl Band/BJ the Chicago Kid/Digable Planets/splitting Savages and Jenny Hval/Blood Orange/Jlin & RP Boo/Brian Wilson makes animal noises/Sufjan Stevens
Sun: Sun Ra Arkestra/Homme/Kamasi Washington/Holy Ghost!/Empress Of/Neon Indian/Jeremih/Miguel/FKA twigs

Nice, it's going to be a great time. I'm excited to check out a smaller fest, and happy that it's apparently easy to get close for sets.

I saw OPN a few months ago and while his show wasn't bad, it was also rather static and didn't add much from the record. Twigs sounds like a better bet if you can ensure a good spot.
Whitney/Julia Holter Savages/Jenny Hval (I saw Savages earlier this year) Super Furry Animals/Jlin & RP Boo Kamasi Washington/Empress Of (I saw EO in 2014 and really liked it, but Kamasi is obviously really good too.)
Julia Holter for sure. If Whitney is anything like Smith Westerns live, they'll be decent but nothing amazing.
I'd go with Super Furry Animals just because they rarely tour America and I'm hoping they have a small but enthusiastic crowd because of that.
this will be my first time going to Pitchfork. any tips?
I saw Nicolas Decaanter was saying the Blue stage gets a lot of sun (ugh). i'll be spending a lot of time there so that's going to be fun.
He said the blue stage was a respite from the sun, so guessing there's a lot of shade there. I'll be at red and green a lot, so I'm prepared to bring a lot of sunscreen.

There's only one water refill station, so be prepared to either buy a bottle during peak times or wait a long time. It's not bad earlier in the day, though.
Last year the security people standing in the middle stage partition at the red and green stages were really good at handing people free water bottles. The water refill situation at p4k isn't ideal but I didn't have to pay for water once because security was so generous with handing out water bottles.

oh dang i read too fast. that's great news. thanks to all for the great tips! the water thing is a bummer but good to know they help you out as much as they can.
also how strict are they are on going through your bags when you enter the festival? i only ask because i saw they don't allow you to bring in snacks or food. i survive off of protein bars at festivals and prefer to save money as much as possible so this is v bad news for me lol
Also, I don't know if they updated the desktop site, but if you visit pitchforkmusicfestival.com/schedule/ on mobile there's an actually useful schedule visualizer.
Since I fucked up for 'Roo, this is what I look like. I'll be dressed like literally everyone else at the fest. One of my favorite things is getting on the train each day because you always know if you're getting on the right train. I remember a conversation I had with my brother one of the first years that essentially ended with, "we'll know we're getting on the right train when everyone looks the same."
Here's what my schedule should look like (if I actually make it in for the early acts)
Sat: Circuit Des Yeux > RP Boo > Kevin Morby > Digable Planets > Savages > Blood Orange > Super Furry Animals > Anderson Paak > Sufjan
Sun: Porches > Woods > Kamasi Washington > Holy Ghost! > Neon Indian > Jeremih > LUH > FKA Twigs
I'm thinking about going to Smart Bar for either Clams Casino Friday or RP Boo Saturday, or maybe the Empress Of aftershow. Not really going to be upset if I don't make it to any though, depends on how my group feels. Hoping we don't get rained out a day this year!
If anyone is heading to this solo (or even if you're not) and you want to meet up with the Mrs. and I, I will be wearing a Hawaiian print Kolten Wong Cardinals jersey. Yes, I wear this in Chicago because I'm anti-establishment (anti-Cubs). I'll buy you a drink before Blood Orange (or Kamasi, Sufjan, Brian Wilson, Royal Headache, etc.).
I don't know about you guys but I've been getting a lot more excited about Jeremih in the past couple of days. He's not my most anticipated or anything but at first I was only half interested. I guess I forgot how much I originally enjoyed Late Nights.

General tips: 1. Expect to buy bottled water. This single water station isn't like one at Roo or a camelbak station. It's 2 park drinking fountains. The line is ridiculous. 2. Blue stage is dope. It often runs behind schedule or can have bad sound but it is the best setup for a fun show. Similar to the Grove at Lolla but smaller in scale. 3. The whole place turns to shit if it rains. The drainage is poor. 4. All they sell for beer is 312 which is always warm. 5. There's no shade in the main field part of the Red/Green stages but there are trees along the side that have a bad viewing angle but decent sound. 6. The line to get in wraps around forever. If you want to be a jerk just walk down Ashland to where the lines for security are and walk right in. It will save you 20 minutes. 7. Print multiple copies of your ticket. 8. Excellent people watching. The vibezzzz are often lackluster but the music is usually stacked enough to make up for it. 9. The non-dairy ice cream might be poison. 10. Check out the poster fair... and record fair if you buy vinyl but the poster dealers are dope regardless.
THANK YOU!!! <3<3<3 this helps a ton.
i'll be the blonde-ish girl at the festival, you won't be able to miss me. the best way to confirm it is in fact me just in case is if you see me with my friend who has half blue, half purple hair (like actually split down the middle - blue on left side, purple on right side), but that may be more difficult.
ICYMI - FKA Twigs debuted new music and her new visual media and music stage show called "Radiant Me" in Russia last weekend (aka what we're going to see at Pitchfork). it's unreal. i didn't watch a lot (just enough to see the stage set up) but if you're interested, check out the videos here.
Jeremih (Riot Fest Mom) (Performing on SUNDAY, July 17 at 6:15 p.m. on the Green Stage)
Ironically, the first time I heard Jeremih was when I was having birthday sex with your father listening to the song “Birthday Sex.” You don’t want to know what I was doing when I heard his song “Down On Me.”
He also has really great parents. He credits them for teaching him the importance of education and for the academic pressure that pushed him to overachieve academically, and that a solid educational background would eventually allow him to find decent employment if his music career didn’t come to fruition. There is something about his smooth and sexy voice that just gets your father and me in the mood. And when the other moms and have GNOs (Girls Nights Out) this is always the first song we request from the DJ. Those lyrics!!!
Ms. Vicky, heard you got that sticky Let’s go and take nine shots we’ll just call it 50 And I’m gonna licky licky licky ’til her hicky Have-have-have her river runnin’ keep you gunnin’ ’til you empty
Woo! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go find Riot Fest Dad.
