So who else here is as excited for Dead and Company as I am? Easily my number 1 act this year.
I think everyone underestimates how amazing of a guitar player John Mayer is , I can do without his voice sometimes but I'm definitely looking forward to this show .
I'm pumped for all three headliners. The other two a little more because I haven't seen them. I was at that AmEx Unstaged show. Fan-fucking-tastic.
My first real concert was Pearl Jam 2003 ? Riot act tour , the first time I saw LCD was at Sasquatch in 2010 and its was a religious experience. Probably one of the best live shows you'll experience . Saw them 4 more times that year . So glad they're back
I haven't seen a dead concert but have seen Weir a couple times with MMJ. Stoked !!!! I could honestly give 2 shits how stacked the undercard is , it will give me more time to not be on a schedule and enjoy Bonnaroo with friends and relax waiting for the the pit of ALL 3 headliners .
...but I kinda hope they open with a 20min Your Body Is A Wonderland jam just to fuck with everyone
That would be a good way to lose a majority of the crowd.
kinda like when deadmau5 took off the mouse head and 70% of the crowd left (because who wants to see some regular dude making beep boop noises, right?)

I wouldn't doubt that a lot of mau5 fans are just as much into the schtick and display of those shows as the music. The majority of Dead fans would be upset if Mayer broke out his solo material at one of these shows, especially the earliest stuff. This could be a much different crowd than a typical DeadCo show though. Will Dead Heads really travel to Bonnaroo and spend $400. Maybe there will be a few with a day pass if it is two sets and not two nights.

Oh, I wasn't seriously suggesting they'd play a Mayer tune. I think they could've drawn a lot more dead heads if they had a few more jam acts on the lineup.

Flux Capacitor actually sounds like a decent jam act. That name is wretched tho.
Anybody have some song recommendations to listen to for this group? The Grateful Dead was before my time.
If I were you I would start with some of their early 70s stuff. Just sit down and listen to American Beauty all the way through and you should get it pretty quickly. Also Europe '72 is one of my all time favorites and stays in heavy rotation in my car constantly. Beyond that maybe listen to Skull and Roses, Terrapin Station, and maybe In the Dark and Without a Net for later 80s dead.

I'd just get Europe 72 and listen to that all the way through. If you don't like that, you're not going to like the dead. From there, I would check out a dick's picks from the mid 70s. My favorite period of the Dead is 1972-1976. But there's also some great keyboard work that comes in the late 70s early 80s with Brent Mydland.

I went to all three Chicago GD50 Fare Thee Well shows, and I also saw Dead & Co. at their Columbus stop. I'm not going to compare the two because they were two different beasts. That written, I thought the Dead & Co. show was pretty darn tight. You could tell they'd been practicing together, and they really seemed to enjoy playing with one another. I'm really excited for another opportunity to see them on the farm this summer. By the way, Oteil is the man!

while I sit here listening to the end of 1/20/79 and shake my head, wondering if this post is serious...
I'd definitely search archive.org and listen to a few Dead and Company shows. They are pretty much all awesome. I suggest St. Louis and Nashville, because I was there.
For actual GD music, I would second the Without a Net and American Beauty calls. Hell, 5/19/77 is a great show too. Take a gander at the 30 Trips Around the Sun on Spotify as well.

This is the top act for me this year, and the fact that they gave them two sets is simply amazing. John Mayer finally comes to the farm and he will be shredding with one of the greatest bands of all time. As much as I dislike most of the lineup, this signing was a home run.
Thank You for the suggestions. I am serious about it. I did not know Mayer was with them..and there are several songs I know from John Mayer's albums. I do go to archive.org.....and I see there is a lot of concerts on there so I will check that out too.

So a question for all of you fans of The Grateful Dead(Dead & Co.) in one form or another, what are the chances they do a few other shows this year? As of right now Roo is the only show they have scheduled on their website. I am most likely not going to be visiting the farm this year due to not wanting to make that drive for such a low quality lineup. Will I be able to see these guys somewhere else this year?
Hey, so what Spotify recordings do you recommend for these guys? I know the Fare Thee Well concerts are floating around out there bu there I'd like to dig a bit deeper.

I think everybody will be surprised by how many Dead-Heads make the trip. By March/April you will start seeing passes for under $300 on re-sale, not to mention I think most would be exicited to see Pearl Jam as well a few undercard acts (Lettuce sticking out).
I caught the Greensboro show a few months back...I was impressed. High energy, Mayer was in sync with everybody else on stage.

I agree, I'm pretty sure there will tons of Dead-Heads on the farm this year.

no Fare Thee Well. They were just novelty shows for the 50th anniversary. Not bad, but not shows to get acquainted to the Grateful Dead.
Look up 30 Trips Around the Sun on Spotify. One song per year 1965-1995. Some of the best GD shows were picked for that release.
