I just came to the unfortunate realization that I'll have to miss the Bluegrass Superjam for the first time this year to secure my spot for Dead & Co
why's that? you set on getting pit?
i bet even if you ran over right after the bluegrass superjam there is an excellent chance you could just walk into the pit.
EDIT: now that i'm thinking about it i guess there is a good chance the first set of dead & co isn't unopposed? since i'm think they'll have like a 4 hour block on the schedule?
4 hour block makes sense. i mean set breaks can be up to an hour, but phish played 4 hour unopposed in 2012.
yeah i'm looking back at the older schedules now. Phish was 8-12 totally unopposed on Sunday. Looks like the bluegrass superjam wraps up around 8:45pm? we'll see how bonnaroo plays this.

Last year I stayed at the bluegrass superjam til the end and didn't get to billy Joel until about halfway through his set. But the superjam did start a little late last year too.

The bluegrass superjam has run into the Sunday headliner every year if I remember correctly

No offense to anyone who loves both Mayer and the Dead, but am I the only one who cannot get into Mayer singing these classic dead tunes? I hear them in the sirius GD channel and just cannot get into it. That said, I hope everyone who loves it has fun. Enjoy your roo this year. I saw the dead twice, in 03 and 04, and I know that Joan Osborne took a lot of grief in 03 as well, but if didn't have the baggage with her that I do with Meyer. I think it's kinda like a lot of people's opposition to Axl with AC/DC.

I've said it before but I'm excited to get to see John Mayer without having to hear any of his music. Dude is crazy talented on the guitar but is a terrible writer.

No offense taken...but I love the new sound Mayer brings to the dead. It's very refreshing for me
If I were you, I would still give the show a chance. I have a feeling it's going to be a very special way to close the festival.
His dream/vision of future Dead and Company is surreal. It hits home how truly spiritually this band is. I have a feeling about an hour in we will all be floating off the ground. This will be a special way to close out Roo. It is going to be awesome.

"This March, when North Carolina lawmakers passed HB2 and Governor Pat McCrory signed it into law, we categorically objected to it. We had hoped that by now this abhorrent law would have been repealed. Sadly, it has not. After much thought, consideration and conversation, we feel the most effective way to move forward is to perform as scheduled in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 10 and to donate $100,000.00 to organizations engaged in this battle for justice – the Human Rights Campaign and Equality North Carolina.
Additionally, we will assemble a "Participation Row" social action area, where we'll host local organizations fighting discrimination and national organizations dedicated to voter registration and protecting the planet. Every fan in attendance will have an opportunity to learn about the true ramifications of the HB2 law, and take meaningful action by registering to vote; to that end we are working on an online community registration site that will assist the HeadCount organization in promoting and simplifying voter registration.
Dead shows have always been a safe place for all of our audience to come together through music no matter how they appear or self-identify. History shows these values of openness and inclusiveness have served us - and the world around us - well. We’ve never been a band that’s spoken many words when we’re on stage. But we hope that our actions, and the actions of our fans, will ring louder than ever before.
I wouldn't doubt that a lot of mau5 fans are just as much into the schtick and display of those shows as the music. The majority of Dead fans would be upset if Mayer broke out his solo material at one of these shows, especially the earliest stuff. This could be a much different crowd than a typical DeadCo show though. Will Dead Heads really travel to Bonnaroo and spend $400. Maybe there will be a few with a day pass if it is two sets and not two nights.
Oh, I wasn't seriously suggesting they'd play a Mayer tune. I think they could've drawn a lot more dead heads if they had a few more jam acts on the lineup.
Anybody else going for pit? What time are y'all planning on getting in line? I've never done pit for a headliner.
I'm in the same boat myself, i wonder if 30 minutes early would be enough, i'd like to catch some of ween, but i really would like to make pit for the dead.
The more I listen to The Dead & Co the more I love it. I downloaded every show I could find yesterday and have been playing them since. I love John's voice. I can honestly say I never played one of his albums from start to finish before he joined so I tried to keep an open mind.
The sound of this voice on Althea, Brown Eyed Women, China Cat and others paired with Bob's tendencies to blues it up works great
I am also bummed about the schedule and the bluegrass jam. I am also a big fan there. Side note but if you like bluegrass check out Del and Dawg live. I saw the two of them at Dollywood a few weeks ago. Good Stuff.
There are so many bands I don't know all of them but besides Bush what other acts fall under the Bluegrass umbrella?

Steep Canyon Rangers are an awesome Bluegrass band.

I'm gonna be at ween until about 7:45-7:50 then gonna head over for the dead. I don't think it will be hard to get pit. Lots of people will be leaving before or during DeadCo, so that will bring down the number of pit people, and lots of people take that Sunday headliner easy because theyre tired and winding down. If it is packed, room will open up before set 2 though.

Originally I was thinking about heading over after lettuce to get in the pit line, but I really want to see Ween too. So I think I'll watch the first twenty minutes of Ween (maybe more if they are as awesome as I think they are going to be), then head over to the Dead.
I am going to do what I can to be as close as I can for D&C. Hopefully will find someone that will hold my spot while I... And I can hold their spot. Q

Shared this a little while back but I don't think getting pit for Dead & Co. will be a problem. Getting pit for Phish in 2012 was super easy, I just walked up after Bon Iver and got right in. Now the Phish crowd wasn't that big, even though 2012 was a very crowded year, but I expect the Dead & Co crowd to be even smaller.
I just came to the unfortunate realization that I'll have to miss the Bluegrass Superjam for the first time this year to secure my spot for Dead & Co
Exact opposite for me this year! Been wanting to go to Bluegrass Superjam for 3 years now. This year will cat BGSuperjam and then finish the night with Dead & Co

Ok I admit when I am wrong. Checking out the Dead and co set from Sunday night right now and Mayer sounds great on Bertha! So glad they brought out donna!
