What purpose would Tame Impala have on the What Stage though besides to convenience people who want to see LCD Soundsystem and Tame Impala?
What do you mean by purpose? Could you not ask this strange question about any band's stage/time placement ever?
Well okay let me attempt to say this in a better way. Why would Tame Impala play the What Stage and not the Which Stage? Their production isn't too big for the Which Stage, and with conflicts in mind the crowd wouldn't be too big for the Which Stage either. No bigger than Childish Gambino or maybe Bassnectar last year (i wasn't at Bassnectar but I assume that crowd was big). Like Kanye in 2008, that made sense to move him from the Which to the What Stage considering his production and popularity....though that didn't really work out. I'm not saying it won't happen, I'd prefer it to happen actually for my own convenience. I'd just bet that it wouldn't happen. We'll see in a couple weeks though
Just a quick glance at the lineup shows that Tame Impala has more adds than LCD and the Dead, they really should be on the What, I feel like they must have had a reason to refer to them as "late night" on the lineup all the way back in January. A special What Stage show would be fitting.

Yeah I can't imagine Tame Impala on the What stage (at night; I think if they were a daytime set they'd be on What)
They are big, but not that big. Also, they only need a 90 minute set so I don't even think they'll be the last act on the Which stage (I'd guess Tame 12-1:30, Chainsmokers 2-3:30)

I bet they will be on the Which, but if the organizers gave a shit about our experience they would let them play the what. They are the 3rd most added band of the whole fest. The most added on Friday. If they put Tame on the What, they would also improve the crowd size for LCD. if Tame is on the Which immediately after LCD, the LCD crowd during the encore will be pathetic I bet.
They could put them on the What while Chainsmokers play the Which, and it would make a ton of sense.
It should just be a priority to make this Tame show a great one. Popularity, the advertising of "late night", every LCD fan wanting to see them. Its a shame that people will have to decide between Let it Happen and All My Friends, be stuck a quarter mile away behind trees, listening to the awful Which audio.

I think you're putting too much into the production aspect and underestimating the popularity that Tame has right now. There is a reason why they're the 3rd most added band on the website. They're also the biggest LN act following a year in which Roo opened up What Stage for the first time to an LN act (at least I think it was the first time, if not then somebody correct me).
I'm not saying it's going to happen...it would be completely logical for them to be scheduled for a LN set on Which. I just don't think it should be considered a big shock if they do end up playing on What.
Okay so maybe this belongs in the Mock Schedule thread now...but since we were having the Tame Impala What Stage discussion here....I tried to map out what that'd look like.
What Stage: LCD Soundsystem 10:00-12:00am > Tame Impala 1:00-2:30am
Which Stage: The Chainsmokers 12:00-1:00am
This Tent: Zeds Dead 12:45-2:00am > Bob Moses 2:30-3:30am
That Tent: Bryson Tiller 12:15-1:30am > Blood Orange 2:15-3:30am
Other Tent: Purity Ring 12:00-1:00am
would this be a late night we could get behind?

Looks just about as good as it could be, nothing I want to see would conflict.

Blood Orange vs. Bob Moses makes sense. Not that I wouldn't cry if it were the case

Would they add more late night acts then? Off the top of my head I don't remember Which and the Other being silent after 1am on Friday/Saturday but maybe I'm just remembering wrong?

Doubtful. Over the last 2-3 years it's seemed like they had less late night options.

Yup last year EW&F ended around 12:45ish and Flying Lotus was the only act in the Other Tent.

With announcements coming out at least weekly at this point, can we expect either a schedule or superjam announcement next week?
Based on last year next week is the earliest we can expect a schedule announcement, as last year the schedule was released 4/22/15. Of course last year is not necessarily a perfect indicator of when things will be announced this year, but so far the announcements have been pretty consistent date-wise year over year. Also in 2014 the schedule leaked through the app on 4/21/14, but wasn't officially announced until 5/8/14.
Based on the past few years, the schedule should be announced any time between next week and the middle of May.
The Superjam last year wasn't announced until 5/28/15, which was unusual, because in 2013 and 2014 the superjam was announced as early as February. But in 2012 it was announced 5/23/12 (but even then we didn't know about D'Angelo until the actual superjam). So the Superjam is harder to predict.

As much as I want a schedule next week I absolutely don't want a schedule that will be changed twenty times before the actual fest. That does more harm than good.

I understand the logic behind this, and agree that objectively for the attendees it is better to get a schedule later that doesn't change rather than get a schedule earlier that does change, but I just want to see an actual schedule so damn bad that I want it NOW, changes later be damned.
You would hear no complaints from me if the schedule is released next week. I want to get over the inevitable pain of the Friday conflicts as quickly as possible.
