Vikings aren't using AP's 2017 option. Cousins got tagged by the Redskins. Charles released by the Chiefs. Brown made the NFL's highest paid WR by the Steelers.

Revis is getting cut by the Jets (they have gone full rebuild) Patriots are not trading Garoppolo. Kaepernick is opting out of his contract with the 49ers.

And coincidentally opting to stand for the National Anthem.
Brandon Marshall and Nick Mangold also cut. Who's gonna get AP? I hear the Pats want a feature back. Broncs could use him. He's expressed interest in Tampa, Houston and the Giants. Where will Alshon land? Does anyone want Cutler?
I don't think the Pats need a guy like AP. Yeah he is talented even at his age, but Blount puts up numbers and is already very familiar with the system.

"NFL stunner: Texans trade QB Brock Osweiler AND a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland for the Browns to take Osweiler’s $16M salary of Houston’s books, per league sources. The move clears out millions in salary-cap space for Houston to intensify efforts to sign former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, per sources. To be exact, Houston saves $16 million in cash and $10 million against their cap this season. The Texans also will get the Browns’ fourth-round pick this year in exchange for their own 6th-round pick. So Cleveland gets Osweiler’s contract, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick, and Houston gets Cleveland’s 2017 fourth-round pick, saves $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash. Cleveland is not committed to keeping Osweiler and is likely to try to trade him, per sources. If so, it would turn into a basketball-like trade in which NBA teams routinely trade contracts to get them off their books; only it rarely, if ever, happens in the NFL. It’s hard to remember in the salary-cap era another team when a team traded a contract to get it off its books. But Houston was so anxious to rid itself of Osweiler and move on to its next quarterbacking chapter that it is giving Cleveland extra picks to take him and his contract. The Browns headed into this free-agent signing period with over $100 million worth of salary-cap space and would struggle to spend it all. Now they can devote some of it to Osweiler’s contract and acquiring extra draft picks from Houston. But this is one of the most, if not the most, creative trade in NFL history."

Well that was unexpected.
Yep, sounds like Romo won't have to move too far. If they do get him it was a pretty good move to get out of the bad one they made last year.

I love this trade for both sides. A salary dump! One of the best parts of the NBA coming to the NFL can only be a good thing.
So who wants to make predictions on what the Saints end up getting for Cooks? I'm sure only myself and esteban (and possibly LD) care that much about it, but I'm curious to know what y'all think.
I like the addition of Warford and the addition of Ginn Jr means Cooks is as good as gone.
My hopes are that the Browns would trade Osweiler and some picks to NE, who would give them Garoppolo in return. Then NE would trade the Saints Butler and at least one of the picks for Cooks.
Effects on teams:
Houston - frees up cap space to afford Tony Romo by losing Osweiler Cleveland - eats salary of Osweiler. Ends up with Garoppolo New England - gets Cooks and still has a decent backup with Osweiler. Loses Butler New Orleans - gets Butler and a draft pick or two. Loses Cooks
Who had their money on basically a 2nd Round pick and moving from the 118th to 103rd? Anybody? No? Is it because that's the fucking stupidest thing you've ever heard?!
Sorry Jakicker. But so happy to see Cooks a Patriot.
It's like watching Trump become president. None of it makes any sense. I mean, Cooks was no longer happy because the ball was spread around too much. Does he think that'll change in NE?

I think the Saints just didn't want to pay Cooks. I was recently watching each weeks highlights of New Orleans and Cooks was a huge playmaker, both with speed and clutch catches in coverage. He is really going to burn some defenses in New England. I hate to see him leave the Saints. I would never pick New Orleans player in Fantasy just because of how much they spread the ball.
I also think that Glennon was a better option for the Bears than Cutler. He'll be a stopgap before the inevitable Trubisky years.
Agreed on both accounts. I read an article on Glennon's deal where they can basically drop him after one season without much of a downside financially. Both parties can have a hell of an upside if he pulls it together. Cutler had plenty of chances to get it together and just never did. I don't think another year would have fixed anything.
I'm really not liking seeing all of these receivers come to the NFC East and the majority of Dallas's already weak secondary depart.
CBs are reported to be deep in this draft so I expect Dallas to do a major restock. And yeah the whole NFCE looks like Air Coryell with Dallas being the most balanced.

They lost both of their strong safeties. I though both Church and Wilcox were decent to good players. I could see Byron Jones switching to corner, but then that leaves a hole at free safety

The league has passed a rule banning players on defense from leaping during field goal attempts. This is a horrible rule. With teams having the opportunity to score two points on a block, extra points actually became exciting last year.
Tony Romo retired. Will always be one of the most under appreciated QBs all time due to his lack of playoff success. He's taking over Phil Simms job at CBS. It's going to be so weird to hear Romo call our Thanksgiving game and at least 1 other Cowboys game this season..

He's retired today. He didn't win enough, regular season or playoffs, to earn a reputation as a top QB, though his other stats were certainly deserving. It seems like everybody thinks there's a good chance he'll play again though. I have no idea when or where he'd play, but it wouldn't be too surprising if this "retirement" didn't take.
Speaking of QBs, man, that Asswilder (Axwielder? Osswiper? Ozwanker?) guy is still on the Browns' roster. There's no financial incentive to releasing him yet so I'm not too alarmed, but Hue Jackson hasn't exactly made it sound like he wants to play him. I just hope they didn't trade for him thinking the could flip him into something. Surely every team already passed on him before the Browns accepted a trade with very little upside. Draft picks are nice, but they've wasted plenty of them in the past. How about spending some of that ridiculous cap space on an actual NFL player or two instead of so much on a back-end 2nd round pick? Could have kept Terrell Pryor with that money, or the two stud O-linemen they let walk last year.
