Another year of no Trailer Park Boys, damn.
As said earlier, I would love to catch Judd Apatow...but I'm not roasting under the sun for 2+ hours to get a ticket nor will I miss any of my top ten acts to see him.

Rough comedy lineup this year. Beth stelling is great but I seriously doubt I'm going to see any of these people.
FunFunFun prioritizes comedy in a way no other music festival ever has. They're always going to have the best comedy lineup except for maybe SXSW (which isnt entirely a music festival)

Lot of smaller names I don't know this year, but some solid stuff. I love Pete Davidson's standup, it'd be nice to time my A/C break with one of his slots.
Also it'd be cool to get a surprise Amy Schumer appearance at Judd Apatow or the Comedy Superjam, especially considering she did Trainwreck with Apatow and Vanessa Bayer and is very close with Bridget Everett, who has been on her show a few times. Probably pretty doubtful but so were Jon Hamm and Zach Galifinakis appearances last year so who knows.
Did you guys try the new ticketing system last year? I didn't wait at all except for the few minutes before the show before they started seating.
I don't think anything was new about the system last year. They've had the same kind of ticketing system for the past few years (although now it needs to be re-thought since people are still waiting a while just to get tickets). What was different this year from previous years?

wasn't last year the first year they just scanned your wristband, rather than giving you an actual laminated ticket?

Hmmmm....may have been. I'm trying to remember if I was able to actually catch comedy last year.....I usually catch at least one but I think I may have opted for a few of the cinema tent special shows which are operated differently.
That's smart of them to just scan the wristband....but do they still make you line up and only scan for certain shows starting at a certain time? Like....could I walk up in the morning and say I want to see the last show of the day and get scanned? That would be ideal.

I'm surprised at how little I remember about this process, usually this kind of logistical stuff is right up my alley. I guess that means it went really smoothly.
I want to say it was the same "2 hours before showtime" setup. Can anyone else remember?

Still rather lame if it's still that set up. The tickets idea worked great the first year or two but when they started getting bigger names people would just line up even longer in order to get tickets to the show. I'm not sure the best way to improve the process, though.
Thanks bonnaroo for making me more sure of my decision to skip the comedy acts this year by allowing all these comedians to post extremely awkward (and not in a humorous way) live videos of them opening a box. It seems like one of those ideas that could've been great if they actually thought it through. At least we know where that extra ticket money is going... Did you guys try the new ticketing system last year? I didn't wait at all except for the few minutes before the show before they started seating.
My experience with it was awful.
As I remember it:
First they said that they weren't ready to do it and said to come back in a few hours.
I came back in a few hours and they said that they didn't know anything about scanning. Just wait in line.
Then I waited in line and they said that everyone needed to get scanned.
That might not be 100% accurate, though. I feel like there were a couple of more steps in there too further ratchet up the frustration. I'll see if I can find my rage filled post from after the festival tonight.
Regardless, it was just another example of the festival organizers having a decent idea, developing no procedures, and then delegating it to volunteers with little to no training. How these people have been able to build such an iconic festival is beyond me. 99% of the time they're a bunch of incompetent boobs.

Yea, I always ask at least two different people and only leave with my answer when it comes from someone who seems like they know what they're talking about. There's way too many ignorant volunteers that aren't told much besides "stand here and do this" or "Hold this here....count these people".

I have avoided the comedy tent since 2011 like the plague. Too many different damn lines. 1 group will be for tix to this act while another one started for this act and then people waiting to get seated are in a line. Not missing 2-3 acts for a comedy show (& that's what it seemed like I did in 2011). Maybe if it's better run I might try it again.

I think I've been in the comedy tent twice in 5 Roos. The first year we just went in the tent because it had AC and the show wasn't full so they let us in. It was the Muppets Unstuffed and Unstrung, pretty funny. Then a couple of years ago we went to see someone (I forget who) but they had canceled or rescheduled so we got to see Bridgett Everett instead and she was hilarious. I like the idea of a comedy tent, but I'm not missing any music standing in line for it.

The bigger names (Aziz, Conan, and likely this year Judd Apatow) force the long waits in lines but for a majority of the comedy shows I've seen the past few years the wait hasn't been too bad. Mainly because I don't care where I'm sitting when at the show so I just hop on the end of the line around the time they start handing out tickets. Pick up my ticket and then come back to walk right in before the show starts. I may not be seated on the floor but with their setup all the seats are a good view.
Right there with you. I've actually never made it into the cinema tent, it's the only place at Roo I haven't been to. That and the Ferris wheel.
We wanted to go to the cinema tent last year for the Corey Fieldmen hot-mess showing of Goonies, but Royal Blood was the same time. The Ferris wheel on the other hand, we rode a few times. It was perfect.
Cinema tent is on the list, if there is something good and there are no conflicts. The no conflicts part is the struggle.

As a not-shitty voulnteer for many years i can tell you there are many volunteers every year who only show up to do the bare minimum to see shows for free and will actively be dumb so you go away. Nobody ever gets reported to a supervisor by patrons or other staff that ive seen. Sometimes it isn't all on the company. I've also had awful experiences with the company but they did usually attempt to inform us of everything we needed to know for our position.
and in response to the post you were quoting I walked straight up to the ticket booth last year (as a normal patron) and they scanned me in for a show that was a few hours away. i showed back up and saw a long line before it started and wandered off for a bit. came back just near showtime, the line was gone and i walked right in. sorry you got the runaround but they had it figured out by the time I got over there for Reggie Watts.
One of the better things about the comedy shows at Roo are the chance to see an up and coming comedian in a small venue, doing a slightly unique show (since they always address the atmosphere or bands or festivals). I've gotten to see Aziz Ansari, Patton Oswalt, and Louis C.K. at Roo all before they blew up into huge comedians who play bigger venues.
Jak Knight could be one of those types of names that ends up a bigger deal in a couple of years.
