Right there with you. I've actually never made it into the cinema tent, it's the only place at Roo I haven't been to. That and the Ferris wheel.
We wanted to go to the cinema tent last year for the Corey Fieldmen hot-mess showing of Goonies, but Royal Blood was the same time. The Ferris wheel on the other hand, we rode a few times. It was perfect.
Cinema tent is on the list, if there is something good and there are no conflicts. The no conflicts part is the struggle.
Oh wow, thanks for reminding me how much fun I had at that Royal Blood show!
You say that like I am the only person that hates Pearl Jam.
But my point is that you hate both Pearl Jam and Top Gun but you would like to see Kenny Logins perform "Danger Zone" and/or "Playing With The Boys." The Venn diagram for that cannot see a huge overlap.

Also, you're a monster.
I never said I hate Top Gun. I just chose to never watch it again. Just like 80% of Tom Cruise's other movies.
I do hate Pearl Jam though and Eddie Veder. I can live with being a monster.

Made it to cinema last year for the AC. GOT was on and i fell asleep. views in there can be kinda rough from what i remember.

Not so much the views (well, I am 6'3'') but the seats are horrible! Where's my damn back support?! I miss the busted couches they used to have years ago.
Hmmmm....may have been. I'm trying to remember if I was able to actually catch comedy last year.....I usually catch at least one but I think I may have opted for a few of the cinema tent special shows which are operated differently.
That's smart of them to just scan the wristband....but do they still make you line up and only scan for certain shows starting at a certain time? Like....could I walk up in the morning and say I want to see the last show of the day and get scanned? That would be ideal.
I'm surprised at how little I remember about this process, usually this kind of logistical stuff is right up my alley. I guess that means it went really smoothly.
I want to say it was the same "2 hours before showtime" setup. Can anyone else remember?
oh no, no, no! last year you lined up once...whenever you wanted. I got in line about 10-11ish and wanted to see 2 shows on saturday, they scanned my wristband and loaded tickets for both shows at once. One was the 8pm Chris Hardwick show too so it's not like they just let you get tickets for the lower names. I lined up once when nothing was playing, was in line maybe 10-15 minutes, got both shows and was done! No more waiting for hours!

woah, wait...that's how they do it now? So say I wanted to catch Judd Apatow this year, I would just go there early in the day and wait in a smallish line and say hey I want to see the Apatow show later and they scan the ticket to my wristband?

Theoretically.
That's assuming that they've got their stuff together, though.

That's great to hear. I hope it stays that way. I would easily pick out the one or two shows I want to see and get them scanned early.

That's a game changer for me as far as comedy goes. I just had such a bad experience with the line the first time I tried that I've just never given it another shot
nice! some fun things in there. The Prince & David Bowie dance parties, q&a with Judd Apatow, some improv thing with matt besser. some of that found festival footage and drone festival footage would be cool too. three amigos quote-a-long will be awesome.
edit: lettuce doc and q&a i'll probably be at. that david byrne color guard doc I've been interested in. sausage party (seth rogen film), nerdland animated comedy with patton and rudd, labyrinth quote a long, les paul live in new York.
not bad at all. with a weak undercard comes a strong cinema tent.

That Matt Besser thing is based on his podcast and should be hilarious. John Gabrus is really good on the Earwolf podcasts so that's one thing I'm sad I'm missing this year.
Updated my clashfinder with the schedule so you can see everything side-by-side. Cinema tent should go all night, I can't imagine anyone being in there on Friday night for Purple Rain. :\

How does the cinema and comedy tents work? I've heard I need to go to the comedy tent in the AM and get tickets then and just scan my wristband. Is this true? Is it the same with cinema?

Cinema is first come first serve, usually a line forms for the most popular things.
Comedy has a sign up for the next show usually right before the current show starts. We used to get tickets but now they use the wristband.
The Three Amigos quote-along is my favorite thing on the cinema lineup, with Sausage Party second. Maybe I'll finally watch something at the tent this year.

Yea that sounds amazing. Gabrus and Mary Holland are both hilarious. Plus I'd really like to see that Del Close doc they are pairing with this.

There's a lot to like on this. Not sure how much I could get to as the best stuff is scheduled at peak times but 3 amigos would have been super fun. The Bowie and prince events are a great idea. Improv4humans just leaped to my 2nd favorite comedy on the lineup right behind Beth Stelling. Several interesting docs. Pitch perfect is probably the only thing I have zero interest in

Especially since it is during Tame Impala/Bob Moses/Blood Oranges. UGH.

Highly unlikely I make it into the Cinema tent, but it is great to see Bonnaroo getting involved with Alamo Drafthouse. They do a really good job with the interactive showings and weird rarity, cult, and nostalgia films in Austin with sing-alongs, quote-alongs. Also, I've really been wanting to check out David Byrne's Contemporary Color. It is during a typically hot part of the day, so it should have a big turn out.

Thank you for doing this every year. It is most appreciated!
The only time I've gone to the Cinema Tent is when it's hot as fuck and there's no line and I want to get into some shade and AC for a bit. At that point I don't even care what's playing...
