I'm really hoping we get some sort of definitive "events will be happening from x to y" before I have to buy my plane tickets. Not sure if I need to leave Sunday afternoon or Monday morning, etc. I think it'd be really great if they did something with the movies where they show them during the afternoon and evening of the first day when not much else is happening. I love film and was disappointed to miss so much of it this year (live music is always going to trump films I can pick up on DVD).
Wish List #1
Pierre Henry (Artist in Residence) Squarepusher Mountains Windy & Carl Thee Silver Mt Zion and/or G!YBE A Winged Victory for the Sullen (bring them back!) Jonathan Segel (I'd love to hear some solo stuff along with his work with Øresund Space Collective and/or Camper Van Beethoven) Stars of the Lid The Sight Below Deaf Center The Boats (the ones that put out "Sleepy Insect Music") Meredith Monk Diamanda Galas David Sylvian Tones On Tail (Reunion! It could happen!) The Dead Texan Magma

I'm sure there will be more.
Have you officially begun what we discussed earlier, where you begin making up names?
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Just woke up from a wonderful dream of seeing FIRE! Orchestra in the Tennesse. I'm assuming this was Big Ears related but I'm unsure. Either way, this is now a need and not a want.
I'm feeling late September should be good to get this ball rolling.

Sounds like we'll also be getting some hints dropped between now and then (as they have done in previous years).
Although I have unsuccessfully predicted this in years past, I can say with 100% certainty that in 2017 we'll finally see Taco Ockerse as the "Artist in Residence." There is no other possibility.
On Wednesday, October 5th, we’ll be sharing the full Big Ears lineup, and that evening at 7pm, we’ll be hosting a free Preview of Big Ears 2017 event featuring the wonderful singer and composer Julianna Barwick and harpist Mary Lattimore (who was a special guest at this year’s Big Ears iteration). The concert will take place at our fabulous new music hall The Mill & Mine, which has evolved quite a bit since its opening weekend during Big Ears 2016. The evening will also include a word from our film partners at the Public Cinema, along with exciting peeks into the Big Ears documentary, still very much a work-in-progress by the amazing team at Rock Fish Stew.
You Knoxvilleians best be getting your asses to that show. If I wasn't already going here, I'd consider making the drive.

They are playing a little church-like thing here in Asheville pretty excited. I don't think I have ever seen a harpist before.
She's gonna blow your mind. In the past month I've seen her both solo and a duo with Kid Million and another duo with Meg Baird. She's incredible. If you haven't gotten lost in the new album yet, get on that. One of the most rewarding records I've heard this year.

Fans of Big Ears should take note of the upcoming Day for Night festival in Houston: Aphex Twin, Butthole Surfers, Squarepusher, Kamasi Washington, John Carpenter, Matmos, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, et.al.
Must be that time of year, my first "WHO!?!?!" of Big Ears 2017.
He was one of the founders of Musica Elettronica Viva but Now just a composer. If you're looking for a starting point try all 4 of the MEV albums, specifically Friday and Apogee.

Hotel booked for the wife and myself. First time in staying outside downtown. Hotels have caught on, it seems. The abundance of free/cheap parking makes it a little easier to swallow.

What dates did you book? Guessing that the 23rd will be an evening start, and the 26th will be an early afternoon finish... but I am currently booked 3/22 - 3/27 just in case they are holding events throughout the 23rd and 26th.

Thursday - Monday. It may have been that extra day that did us in. I couldn't justify spending $450/$500 for a room I rarely see. It's going to be different but not difficult, I think.
