This is hard. I can't narrow this down to 10 without cutting out some MUST SEE artists.
Top 10 (in alphabetical order) Carla Bley Trio Colin Stetson Colleen (Cécile Schott) Jace Clayton Presents Julius Eastman Memorial Dinner Jóhann Jóhannsson Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith Musica Elettronica Viva Supersilent The Magnetic Fields Tortoise

... as for the additions: we need a little post-rock and/or more electronica. Thee Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra/GY!BE & Squarepusher would be A-MAZING. Or how about John Carpenter?? He's touring!
Do you think Wilco will be a separately ticketed event?
They have posted saying that they did away with separately ticketed events this year due to feedback. If you're just looking to do Wilco, a day pass would probably be your best bet.
Bands I know on this lineup: Wilco, Magnetic Fields, Tortoise, Blonde Redhead, Aoife O'Donovan, Ahleuchatistas, Dave Harrington, My Brighest Diamond, Joan Shelley
Heard of but never listened to: Matmos, Deerhoof, Dakhabarkha, Julian Lage & Chis Eldridge, Colin Steston, Xiu Xiu, Six Organs Of Admittance
DakhaBrakha and Colin Stetson are great live, their studio stuff is too.

Choosing 10 made me feel dirty.
Here is my list of "Must See" artists: Ahleuchatistas Blonde Redhead featuring American Contemporary Music Ensemble Carla Bley Trio with Steve Swallow and Andy Sheppard Colin Stetson presents Sorrow: A Reimagining of Gorecki's 3rd Symphony Colleen Gavin Bryars Ensemble Glenn Kotche Jace Clayton presents Julius Eastman Memorial Dinner Jóhann Jóhannsson's Drone Mass featuring American Contemporary Music Ensemble Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith Lisa Moore Matmos perform Robert Ashley's Perfect Lives (Private Parts) Meredith Monk & Vocal Ensemble: The Soul’s Messenger Musica Elettronica Viva (Alvin Curran, Richard Teitelbaum, & Frederic Rzewski) My Brightest Diamond Oliver Coates On Fillmore Philip Jeck Shane Parish Six Organs of Admittance Supersilent The Magnetic Fields: Fifty Song Memoir Tortoise
I still need to do some due diligence on: Claire Chase Rangda Steve Lehman & Sélébéyone Theatre of Voices Theo Bleckmann Wu Fei
If drumming is your thing, you need to promote Rangda to "must see". Chris Corsano is one of my favorite ever. Add him to Alan Bishop and Ben Chesney (Six Organs) and you've got a psych freak out that's bound to happen.
Here's a full set from a few years ago.
E: Edit to say KMA is listed under venues again. Fingers crossed for free bikes this year.

Looks like The Magnetic Fields are Friday and Saturday. Really crossing fingers for the Tennessee. It's gonna be a shitshow trying to get in if it's not.

They're touring for this as well... I'm wondering if I should just pick up tickets for them in Minneapolis and keep those time-slots open for other shows. Same with Jóhann Jóhannsson...

I would. I'm also one that tries to knock out conflicts before the fest though. I'd love to do those Durham shows but I fear I'll be strapped for cash that close to Big Ears. I'm keeping my eye on some smaller bands and hoping they come through DMV before then.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw that Body/Head retweet. I know it's not going to happen but daaaamn I want it. One of the best shows I saw that year.

Ugh. You Knoxvillians have all the luck. Just noticed another preview event with Wu Fie and Shane Parish (from Ahluechatistas). I'll give one of you $7 for that show. I wanna know how this Parish solo stuff sounds.
I'm really starting to think Body/Head is returning, y'all. For a split second, I thought they teased Silver Mount Zion. I'm guessing that is Jessica Moss though. Totally unfamiliar with her solo work but that family tree has my interest.
Jem Cohen has been teased for films too, I believe. Dave Maynar, you know who this is.

I got giddy when I saw it. His films are quality work, imo. I've only seen a few past Instrument but really liked what I've seen. He also did a documentary on The Ex that I'd love to see on the big screen.

Haha. I was a Quix*o*tic fan for sure though only saw them live once. Mira and her sister were great. Mira is White Magic now and don't know what happened to her sister (can't even remember her name). I used to see Mick Barr and his metal bands once in a while until he moved somewhere up north.
