It's a little weird that they went with individual urinals and not stadium style troughs. I mean, yay privacy and all but seems like it would waste a lot more water.
I believe at the flush toilets by Groop Camping they had a trough-type thing outside for quick business and stalls with toilets for anything else. Maybe they'd do the same? Not sure.
A couple of the photos show shin high urinals. Maybe they're for VIP, though.

I think trough urinals make a lot of sense for something like Bonnaroo but new installs no longer meet code in a lot of places. I have no knowledge of plumbing or health code in Coffee County, TN, but it is a possibility that the troughs aren't an option anymore, even for infrequent events that serve a lot of people. Blah blah blah, diseases, mixed splashback, etc., or whatever.

Exactly. I'm guessing they've been banned in some places because of the ick factor and the "what ifs" more so than because of any documented disease outbreak. They're probably fine almost all of the time, but are a throwback to simpler, less sanitary times.
I'm also a little surprised that they appear to be going with gender-based bathrooms instead of just a big ass room with stalls and urinals. I mean, we're all adults here, right?
Maybe just keeping things conservative in the event that they hold other events there in the future?

I am the Kev-Bot. I speak for the ladies. They don't want our piss all over the toilet seats in their bathroom.

They can call the big ass room with stalls and urinals the transgender room...boom kill two birds with one stone

A) That's what the urinals address for.
B) How would this differ from portos?
A) Yeah because guys definitely won't walk into a stall to pee... B) It differs from portos in that they don't have to share them with us. That's kinda a big selling point

I really hope this was sarcasm... I'm gonna assume it was sarcasm
At Floydfest last year they had these small four sided kiosks for stand up pee-ers. About the size of a phone booth. Could service four people at a time. Portable, like porta potties. I think they had maybe a waist high temporary fence around them for privacy, like anyone really cares. Great idea cuz stander uppers don't need a stinky porta potty.
Ps if you are under 35 you will need to google "phone booth".

Who the hell walks by a urinal to pee in a stall?
My point was that guys are already pissing on seats in portos.
Anyways, the point I was going for was that if restrooms are gender free, there is less of a wait for everyone.

Obviously its to conceal their drug intake.
I have heard stories of girls standing above the porto seat because of their germ phobia and end up golden showering all over said seat. So dont think its justtt the guys (although im sure its the majority)
I agree with the trans bathrooms, womens bathrooms always have 2-3 times the line at these type of events while the guys are usually half empty. Hope that doesnt happen this year.
On a side note, If we are at lower attendance and they just installed new bathrooms, I would imagine that one or two of the temporary bathroom areas would be removed. If this were to happen near This tent, then I suppose they could space out the tents that much more. This is wistful thinking more than anything.

IDK. From my personal experience, men restrooms tend to have piss everywhere. Even if there are urinals for them to piss in. Also, in the ladies restroom, especially the dallas airport, women know how to use the restroom but not flush and you always come across a bloody situation which leaves you wondering is this natural, did someone die here, did they seek immediate medical attention?
Last year, with the portos in centeroo gender split, it seemed to really help things out. Men weren't walking into a bloody situation and closing their eyes to piss all over the seat and door handle (how does that even happen?) of the porto. Women were courteous of it because there wasn't piss all over the goddamn porto and had the ability to sit down and take care of business so I didn't spot any crime scenes last year in centeroo.
This post is mostly to be funny but it's also really true.
I'm only discussing pee and feminine things bc shit happens at roo. All that walking and drinking and eating. It's bound to fucking happen. We can't avoid it. BUUUUUUT..........
I also really am skeptical to how long the permanent bathrooms hold up. Honestly, if any of the shit crimes that happened in pod 10 happen in these permanent bathrooms, THEY WILL NOT HOLD UP. It literally looked like someone barely made it in and sprayed diarrhea all over the seat and back wall. We all have shit stories from bonnaroo though that make anyone question the permanent bathrooms holding up.
You know girls can go in the men's porta pottys if they want. I've never understood why the girls wait in line to pee. My gf used the men's last year and had no problems.
The chance of using one of the permanent restrooms is low anyway. The line itself to use, it will hopefully be shut down periodically to service, etc... we will still be using portos as our main bathroom experience at roo.
They tend to make things more difficult, for sure.
not an issue if you have a long penis...
Porto Etiquette: Men should never pee on a toilet seat in a Porto; use the bucket on the left wall within the Porto. Women: That bucket is not for garbage. If you fill it up with extra TP, wrappers, or other items, we can't use it anymore and then have to use the main hole, causing pee on the seat...

No we're not, actually. And TN is still considered to be in The South. I suppose you can probably use whatever bathroom you want now without fear of going to jail, but gender-specific bathroom signs aren't going away yet.

I've seen many stories about women who may not look feminine enough or lesbians being harassed in women's restrooms since lawmakers decided to bring this issue to the forefront of the public's attention. There has likely been one, but I've yet to hear about a man or woman being a pervert and just going into the ladies' or men's room to exploit this right of transgender people.

The thing is, the things that these people are allegedly fearful of - assault harassment, etc. - were already against the law. Really it's just one more way to be a bigot, cloaked in a concern for women's safety.
For me, Bonnaroo should be all about efficiency with their bathrooms. Get us in and out with minimal lines.

I didn't mean to bring politics up. It just reminded me of all the irrational fears I see from conservatives who think men are suddenly just going to start roaming freely into the women's room. Of course the permanent restrooms are going be gender specific for a venue that can hold 90k +. If it was a hole in the wall restaurant or club it might be different.

Agreed, it is unrealistic to think that the festival would think outside of the box. (This year's lineup is evidence of that!)
