Pinegrove was breathtaking last night, they played Skylight and Cardinal in full too. One of the few instances where an artist is better live than on studio records.
You've gotta start going to better shows...
Very excited to see Pinegrove here in NYC tonight, though. Been getting more and more into Skylight and just re-listened to their Newport set yesterday

that was an exaggeration lmao, ive been to tons of shows and its usually like a ratio of 2/3rds being better live. not counting openers. but yeah theyre absolutely breathtaking. You're in for a treat.

those shows were not sold out either. the first year fenway shows were sold out. last years were not.
I guess we will have to wait and see. It’s possible that Fenway’s absurd fees were a turn off to some. I know they always frustrate me with their “unique ticket system” and high fees.

That was my first time seeing them and wow yeah they were amazing.
Somewhat unrelated, but I'm starting to get sick of how crowded sold-out Sinclair shows are. Me and my friend basically had our heels hanging off over the stairs at the back of the floor the whole time. I feel like sold out shows there a year or two ago were never quite as crowded as they have been this year. Maybe it's just that I'm older and grumpier now.
The Sinclair is my favorite Boston venue because I feel it's the least crowded when sold out. The paradise is way more crowded with a bad layout and massive obstructiions. Royale as a whole doesn't feel crowded, but that raised floor is dumb because everyone has to pack into it, especially when you're short like me.

Totally agree with everything you said. I hate sold out Paradise (and honestly anything over like 75% capacity Paradise) and while Royale is nice, I'm never ever going to push up on the middle step thing and will always end up in the back corner. The Sinclair is absolutely my favorite (smaller) venue, I just feel like it's been getting slightly more sold out recently than older sell-outs, if that makes any sense.

Paradise is awesome if you are within the first five rows at the front, otherwise it's not.
The middle step thing with Royale never bothered me. Hell, for the 21+ EDM shows that used to be hosted there frequently, there was a massive VIP couch with bottle service on that platform. Still managed to rage hard.
Yeah, I'm not a "first five rows" kinda guy... Need a little personal space, easy access to the bar, etc... I get why some people love it there, but I am always bummed when a show I tour I want to see announces Paradise as the Boston venue. I think the new place they're building near the Garden will help a lot with that though, which is kind of exciting.
As for Royale, I like everything about it besides the middle step platform. I've never been there for club nights or anything with VIP couches, and I get that it's built the way it is because it's a club first and concert venue second, but it kind of ruins the place for me. If it was a step down instead of a step up, there wouldn't be that empty ring around the platform, people would move up towards the step and be able to see so much better. Hell, i'd settle for everything being a flat floor with no step in either direction. Anything would be better than having it raised up 6 inches like it is now. All that being said, I'd rather go there than Paradise 10 times out of 10.
Curious to hear what people use to keep track of show announcements, etc... I know Bandsintown is popular, but i feel like email lists like that are usually lagged a couple days and you miss out on presales sometimes. I basically custom-made a Twitter list of local venues and promoters that I keep up with daily to make sure i don't miss announcements/presales/stuff like that.

Bandsintown, soundkick, and religiously checking fb on the hour from 9 to 3. Also on a seperate note, anyone else pissed that they didnt say there's be an artist presale for Anderson .Paak at orpheum until this morning? I missed em because i was at work. Hopefully I can score some good ones tomorrow. So many goddamn platinum tickets listed

I saw the artist presale, but didn't like the selection of tickets that were coming up. (I'm not trying to sit in the balcony.) Usually each presale just gets an allotment of seats, but given how poorly the Livenation presale went 20min ago, it seems like the entire venue basically sold out in the artist presale yesterday... Not great.
Just paid 88 bucks for an orchestra lc row O ticket for Anderson .Paak and I feel like I was robbed.
they definitely bumped prices way up between the presales and normal onsale right? i'm so confused why this is an orpheum show... did they just totally misjudge demand?

I was looking at presale yesterday and was same price today.
I passed...that was too expensive for this band. IMO
