Actually, except for Wilco, assorted Wilco side projects, and whatever the quack Don Draper is doing, the rest of the lineup is underwhelming, IMHO.
I'm resigned to the fact that I'm likely going to go 5-7 years between Wilco shows. 80% sure I'm moving to Portland, OR in November. If Wilco plays there before I move and plays Boston after I move, it could be a few more years before I see them again (which I haven't done since their two Boston shows in Jan '16).
It's not the distance as much as the lack of sufficient hotel rooms right in North Adams. It's easy enough to stay in a nearby town and drive in if you've got a car, but with my poor hand-eye coordination (around a dozen fender benders between the ages of 16-32), my gift to society is never driving again.
It's very much akin to the lack of *affordable* hotel rooms in Newport, RI. I know people who go every year, but none of them stay right in Newport.
Interesting local band lineup at Lizard Lounge on Sat 3/23, with tickets remaining for the early show at 5 pm. I've heard a little bit of Field Day -- kind of a late 70's - early 80's poppier side of new wave thing. If you dig The Go-Go's, Squeeze, Marshall Crenshaw, early Elvis Costello, this might be your thing. I haven't heard Old Fox yet, but the fact they list Frightened Rabbit, Hozier, and Bon Iver as their key influences sounds interesting.
Curious to hear what people use to keep track of show announcements, etc... I know Bandsintown is popular, but i feel like email lists like that are usually lagged a couple days and you miss out on presales sometimes. I basically custom-made a Twitter list of local venues and promoters that I keep up with daily to make sure i don't miss announcements/presales/stuff like that.
Oh yeah, follow the venues and promoters in your area on Twitter, and your favorite artists, and you won't miss a thing (unless you follow so many accounts on Twitter that you don't have time to review everything).
Also, Do617 and Indie617 are great follows, mainly for the large number of ticket giveaways they have on social media.
They're renting out dorm rooms walking distance from the fest for something like $350 for the whole weekend
That's reasonable. I don't do shared rooms with strangers or shared baths, though.
When you get to be my age, comfort is key.
(All the cool bands play Portland, if not on every tour, since so many cool bands live there. I'll see Wilco again eventually. Maybe I can do a Seattle show once or twice per year. I bet the train ride from PDX to SEA must be incredibly scenic.)

3500 GA? thats gonna be massive. For refence, house if blues is 2500. thank gos they're putting something interesting and useful in there, instead of making it another glorified strip mall.
I live down the street. currently the only open things there are a candlepin bowling alley (which is awesome), a huge, barely inhabited apartment building, new balance, and the bruins practice facility. i supposed the commuter rail stop too. this gives me more hope that i may actually benefit from this place, rather than it being filled with lulu lemons and ultra-luxury donut shops.
If they're putting in that giant venue in addition to the already existing shops, Bruins practice facility, Celtics practice facility, and commuter rail stop... then bars and restaurants have to be next (if they aren't there already) which would really make this a cool place to hang out. It sounds like it's going to basically be the new Assembly Row, but more functional and less shopping-focused. A projected opening of Fall 2021 feels like a lifetime away, so i'm not holding my breath... but I'm very much into Bowery finally having a GA place bigger than Royale.
It's also been five years since I last seen a show there
I went 13 times last year... but yeah it's not my favorite. Really, all they'd have to do is get rid of the step up in the front of the floor and make it flat or ideally a step down and it would be a great venue.
Possibly unpopular opinion: I'd still much much rather go to Royale than Paradise
Did Ticketmaster fuck something up or are The Black Keys actually insane with these ticket prices?! Verified Fan presale for the Garden show and the cheapest ticket is $349!?
I dont know who this is (not me) but was searching Twitter to make sure i wasn't hallucinating and sure enough i was not:
After about 45min of people panicking on Twitter, they pulled the presale down and reset it to start at 11am, at which time everything was fixed.
Still more expensive than it should be. I think I paid $100-120 after fees to be in the GA Pit a few years ago, now it's $100 after fees for nosebleed last row balcony seats?! I get that Modest Mouse is a big deal for an opener, but c'mon...
Black Keys prices are absurd. This tour is going to tank.
Live Nation's new model with variable pricing guarantees that they will lower the ticket prices, after the die-hards already pulled the trigger on the current ridiculous costs.

Do prices ever decrease? I've only ever seen prices INCREASE with the variable pricing.

this exact thing happened with the gambino tour. its almost like they set every show at $100 on the first day/presale just because they know people will pay it, and then if not enough people bit they release the 60, 80 dollar tickets

yeah for Childish Gambino I waited a while after onsale and a 10th row floor aisle seat opened up for 125 before fees so i snagged that up.
