There's more indication that In Between Days isn't happening. The promoter also owns the area rugby team, the Free Jacks, and last year that had a nationally touring band play at almost every home game. I just checked their site and there is live music before and after every game, but they're *all* local bands of various types.
Just speculating here, but maybe he spent more upon In Between Days talent than he could afford and the minimal amount of sponsorship they bring in (Arbella Insurance and ??) isn't enough to generate significant revenue beyond ticket sales.
If it's not happening, it's not happening, but there's no excuse for not making an announcement about this. It's very standard in the festival industry to let people know if you're taking a year off or shutting down completely. Let people make other plans for the expected dates and dollars they may have been allocating for In Between Days.

I was relieved when I saw this. It's close enough to Boston (yet, in one of the rare south shore towns without rail line service) to prevent a Boston show this summer from these artists. The last thing I needed to see was Wilco or MJ Lenderman and the Wind or Low Cut Connie or whomever playing this festival and not playing in town because they just played this festival.
If I could get to this and Lake Street Dive and Orobolos were on the same day, I'd go, but there's not that much on the poster that moves the needle for me. I walked out on Daniel Donato 45 minutes into their Sinclair show in September. (I do think that jam doesn't really work for me in a crowded club. I either want to sit and listen, or enjoy a cool evening breeze in the great outdoors in my tie-dye t-shirt.)

So, Secret Boston has arranged with the company that owns and books the Wilbur and Chevalier to set up a permanent presale code for both of those venues. It's SECBOS

Breakaway Fest is moving to the Palladium Outdoors in Winchester due to “unforeseen venue circumstances & changes out of their control”
Given the scant number of shows at Suffolk Downs which have been announced, I suspect that the real estate development company which is partnering with Bowery is having second thoughts about using the space as a concert venue for any number of reasons. Maybe shows interfere with construction in the space, maybe commercial or residential neighbors complained about noise or litter, maybe there's some new thing which is being added to the development which frequent use as a live music venue would hamper or delay.
There's definitely something we're not being told (just like the silence around In Between Days has become deafening).
Honestly, I'm surprised that some college or university in the area besides Harvard hasn't gotten into the game and leased out their space to concert or festival promoters. Between MIT, BU, BC, Tufts, and Brandeis, there are enough campuses and athletic facilities with reduced use during the summer months to think that someone would partner with LiveNation, Bowery, or whomever to want to make this happen for the revenue that it would bring in.
boston festival scene even more in shambles than it was, yikes
Speaking of which...
IN BETWEEN YEARS
we are making the sad but important decision to pause In Between Days in 2024.
TO OUR FANS
Hello from the team behind In Between Days and the New England Free Jacks.
First, thank you for your support across a jam-packed and epic 2023. Last year saw In Between Days Festival in its second year take huge steps toward being one of New England’s most enjoyable and unique music experiences, while the Free Jacks won the Major League Rugby Championship.
We received your overwhelming support and acclaim through our In Between Days 2023 fan survey–thank you for the incredible feedback! We are humbled to see that 100% of respondents said they would return to the festival in the future.
This makes this all the more difficult: with the summer festival season fast approaching, and given the congestion of our 2024 calendar and our resources tied up in other commitments, we are making the sad but important decision to pause In Between Days in 2024. We aim to develop and build an experience without compromise and look to return at a later date.
We thank you for your understanding and look forward to sharing a day of music and fun in the future. Until then, the Free Jacks rugby matches and fan festivals will continue to grow throughout 2024, and we hope you can share in the joy and community of these lively match days, including great local bands, craft food and beer, and great vibes all around. Please see FreeJacks.com for details.
I know I'm in the minority on this, but I'd rather have Worcester than Suffolk Downs.
For car-free folks, Worcester's a better location for a festival than Newport, Greenfield, or North Adams. Breakaway isn't my cup of tea, but glad it's happening since there really aren't any major EDM-focused festivals around here. Even though they align with my tastes, New England really doesn't need another folk/Americana/roots/jam festival.
Presale: Thursday, February 22, 10AM-10PM Code: APUNK General On Sale: Friday, February 23 at 10AM
if their Red Rocks show wasn't the same night as Noah Kahan at Fenway, i'd be making my annual pilgrimage out to Denver for it... but i'll settle for the Garden show (especially when it's a block away from my apartment)

Strangely, TD Garden posted a different code on X: CAMPUS
So, it looks like the scheduling gods are smiling down upon me. The GBV show on 6/22 has a 9:30 pm curfew so that whatever the Royale has booked to follow the Bowery show can start at its appointed time. Ted Leo at the Paradise is doors at 8, show at 9, and there is an opener, so I'd be surprised if he takes the stage much before 10. I'll probably miss some of his set, but still hear most of it if I head down to the Paradise right after the first show.
i have used this other (very similar) company www.rrxshuttles.com/ every time i've been out there for a show, and it's the best. conveniently right downtown, you get special deals at the bar that it uses for pickup/dropoff, you can even drink on the bus. it's so easy.
Crazy that a 10k cap venue can warrant multiple shuttle companies, and yet the 25k cap Xfinity center doesn't have even 1 standard option to/from downtown. Part of it is that a LOT more Red Rocks attendees are tourists/out-of-towners and probably didn't rent cars, but i think it still feels weird.
You could say the same for Gillette, too. I know they run special commuter rails for some shows, but last i checked it wasn't for all of them (though that was years ago so maybe it's more regular now.)

The wild thing is that the MTBA refuses to announce whether they're running shuttles to/from Gillette shows until fairly close to the date, and long after tickets have already been on sale. Even if the show isn't an immediate sellout, both the best and the cheapest tickets can no longer be had at face value plus fees. There often isn't a lot of rhyme and reason to it; the last time Ed Sheeran played two nights there, one show had the train service and the other didn't. They don't seem to understand that those dependent upon rail service need to know whether it will be available before the onsale date.

I think the MBTA totally understands, they just don't give a shit. Which tbh is fair, given how underfunded and understaffed and just generally what an absolute dumpster fire they are. I get annoyed with them for a lot of things, but in this situation I totally agree that adding suburban concert transportation is not a top priority.
I'm a little surprised nobody has tried to privatize coach bus service to/from, the same way they do for Red Rocks. You'd contract out through a third party to rent the buses and drivers, so you wouldn't have to worry about managing all those employees or overheard, and you could fairly easily add a second bus if the first sold out and so on (i'm 99% sure this is how the RRX ones work.) You essentially just create a company to make crowdfunding a party bus appear more legitimate to the general public. It can't possibly be that hard, right?

There actually were buses like this to/from Mansfield when I first moved to Boston a million years ago and it was still called Great Woods. Went to a few shows there (R.E.M once or twice, a few Elvis Costello shows, one of which The Replacements opened) and thought it had horrendous acoustics for that sort of shed. The ones I had been to previously had wooden shells, but the combination of the metal overhead structure, plastic seats, and concrete made for really bad sound. It's been around 30 years since I've been there so I have no idea whether they've made any structural improvements to improve the sound in that time.
Private buses to Gillette and Xfinity Center are a great idea. It would be even nicer though if, like in many metro areas, the NFL stadium and big amphitheater were right in the heart of town.
Especially given the collapse of In Between Days, the immediate Boston area (i.e., inside of the Rt. 128 beltway) needs a second festival, and one which neither LiveNation nor AEG are using to boost mainstream artists for the purpose of selling more tickets at their local venues.
That Pitchfork lineup is fucking perfect. They managed, with only 42 artists on the poster, to somehow cover a diverse range of genres with the best rising artists in those genres, sprinkling in a handful of legacy artists from the 90's on forward. Best of all, it appears to have been curated to be good and sell plenty of tickets to that event, and not move tickets to Luke Hemmings or Renee Rapp at MGM Music Hall in six months.
It's the kind of lineup where the artists with whom you're already familiar are so good that it's worth checking out just about anyone you don't know, because just being on the poster feels like a seal of approval.
Is there an elevator or escalator going up to the upper levels at MGM Music Hall?
Also, someone recommended a particular Uber option as the one to go with when ordering a ride. Since I've finally got a Deep Cuts show on my calendar, I'm wondering which option to choose. Which one was that, again? (I'll put it in my online notepad this time, for easy reference later on.) Thanks.

They definitely have an elevator at MGM. i think it's to the left kinda near coat check after you walk in and get through security.

This year, it's the same weekend as Newport. Not great for people who'd like to attend both, but if Get To The Gig, who have increasingly been booking national touring artists, want to bring in artists without local ties, I'm sure that the Newport rolling lineup, when it's been fully revealed, will contain a few artists who'd fit at NICE, as well, especially if they bring the Somerville Theater into the mix for an artist or two, even if it's not used throughout the four day festival.
